We visited Grangewaters in South Ockendon this afternoon with family who was visiting us from the Cotswolds. The Paddleboarding sessions are from age 6+….the age of our children in our party were 8, 11, 13 & 17 years old.

The price was very reasonable, we paid £10 per person per activity, today we only opted for one activity, Paddleboarding.

I had called them up a couple of weeks before the date I needed to book the session as they do fill up very quickly, it was easy to book & pay over the phone.

The session was ran by Bernard, who in my honest opinion had such a wonderful way with the children, he encouraged them, helped them feel confident in the water and was always on hand if any of the children needed him. It was so lovely to watch as the other places we have been paddle boarding recently the children are just left to get on with it themselves so in terms of safeguarding, Grangewaters are doing everything right. All adults/children taking part were given a life jacket to wear and all paddle boards & jackets were in an excellent condition.

We were asked to arrive for 3pm for the session to start at 3.15pm. First they were taken into a sectioned off area of the lake to get used to the boards for about 45 minutes. Bernard played games with them and even helped them do forward rolls & 360 degree jumps on the boards, encouraging them all the way! After this they paddle boarded around the entire lake. After the journey around the lake they were then given the option to either return their life jackets or to have two turns to jump into the lake and then to swim back to shore, as my youngest really wanted to swim back and as he isn’t a very confident swimmer, Bernard helped him back by letting him hold onto his kayak. The session ended around 4.50pm

All staff present were so friendly and you can tell they all love working there.

I would rate Grangewaters overall an excellent place to visit and highly recommend to anyone who wants to get into or loves water sports!

We did sailing as a group. It was so much fun. Some of us were beginners others more advanced, Will made sure we all got engaged. We went back for canoeing! You cannot beat the value for money. A hidden treasure in Thurrock.
There isn't a cafe on site but we took a picnic. The toilets are spotless and the showers really good.

We spent a couple of hours doing archery. Tom was a brilliant coach- he made sure everyone was safe but at the same time he made the session fun. Good value for money just a shame the paddle boarding was already full! Can definitely spend most of the day here doing different activities.

Fantastic day out at Grangewater. Safety procedures were thorough and everyone had a great day. We loved the leap of faith - even if some of us didn't have the faith.

Thanks especially to Jess who helped out when we had a medical issue.

We spent a very enjoyable weekend in the Brecon Beacons for our Gold practice expedition - Oli and Rocky were absolutely fantastic - Hardworking, proactive and built great relationships with the students. Our students very much appreciated all their help and even wanted to take them on our assessment with us!
Further to that, I am very thankful that Grangewaters stepped in so last minute for us, due to another company pulling out close to our expedition dates. They were very understanding and helpful and we quite simply couldn't have gone without them!
Thank you!!

My daughter just came back from a 5 day trip with her youth group, she's not stopped talking about it since she got in the car from picking her up & to be honest im quite sick of it, sounds like it was far more fun than the weekends away with the scouts in my youth, can we drop her off for another week? & can i come too? :D

We lost contact with her after the first night, she looked at our messages but didnt reply much as she was too 'busy', we caught the twitter pics from the Grangerwaters twitter account & also some periscope vids (thanks @CBYouthVoice ) & spotted her sitting round the camp fire one night as well as doing some activities like archery, rock climbing & kayaking.

She loved every minute of it, the staff sound great & the facilities were very good. Gained some epic bruises doing some great activities, she's obsessed with the colours they are showing now lol.

P.S. parents looking at this, we sent her off with cash in her pocket & she came back with every penny, there is not a shop within miles, stock them up with goodies cos there's nowhere to buy them.

An absolutely fantastic time was had by all, 18 of us in total and a whole week stay. The time flew by as the instructors were amazing and the activities such good fun. All the young people faced their fears and overcame challenges. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, the centre is clean, tidy and the views are beautiful. A real escape in the heart of Thurrock. Thanks for an amazing week and we will definitely be seeing you all again.

The sailing course was fantastic, shout out to Lucy Fernie as a brilliant instructor. I got everything I needed and more from the course.

I would ask that the office side review their processes a little. I arrived for the course a bit frustrated that I really didn't know what to expect and what I needed.

Everything I asked the office was replied to with, "well its up to you". They didn't seem to know or care. The complete opposite of Lucy. I appreciate that experienced sailors would know whether they needed a wetsuit and how many changes if clothes would be appropriate, but this is an RYA Level 1, we've never done it before and would benefit from advice.

On top of that, even though I had originally applied via email, and they had all my details on file, the joining instructions were sent out to the wrong email address. Just careless.

In the end the sailing outweighed the poor admin.

Great fun week at Grangewaters!! The rockclimbing and canoeing has to be the highlight because we were splashing water w our opponents etc. For rockclimbing, it looked very scary when I got tot he top but later on when I went back down I got used to it and had an AWESOME time.
