This is the second time we visited this lovely family owned winery and once again we enjoyed a warm welcome from Yannis and his son who walked us through tasting all their delicious wines and Olive Oil. Of course we had to buy as much as we could fit into our suitcase as the wines were just too tasty not to take them with you - so if you go, be prepared with some space in your suitcase. I believe they ship as well and started working with more distributors, so there is hope we can get their tasty wines in the UK in future as well. Regardless of this, that place is always worth a visit as it has lovely views, a nice atmosphere and the wine always tastes best when enjoyed at its source. Thank you so much for having us this year and we will be back again for sure!

We visited Stilianou on the final day of our stay on Crete and on arrival were greeted by Giannis, the fourth generation owner of the Winery. We opted for the (very reasonably priced) tour and taste - Giannis himself took just the two of us around the vineyard and shared his expert knowledge of the vines and olive trees with us, answering our (numerous) questions along the way in very clear English. We enjoyed four great wines along with olive oil and olives on the terrace and then bought some wine and oil to take home. Highly recommend to everybody.

Charming small family winery with organic vineyards. If you want to enjoy Cretan handcrafted organic wines this is definitely the right place to visit. The location is easy to find – there are distinct signs on the road and in the village of Kounavi, so you can easily drive here. The wine tasting includes four different wines – dry white, dry rose, dry red and sweet red as a dessert. Plus you can also taste organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil which is made from the olive trees, growing around the winery. The outside sitting area is beautiful – nice and shady under the mulberry trees with fantastic view of vineyards and mountains. They also have inside sitting area for the cool days. Giannis Stilianou (the owner) and his wife are very welcoming. They greet every visitor in person and with true Cretan warm hospitality! I also like that that you can plan your visit for the weekend – from April till the end of October they work every day including Sunday. We came here just for the tasting, but keep coming back ever since to enjoy wine with a view and to buy some bottles home. Highly recommended!

Wonderful winery! My wife and I visited this winery on a whim after seeing the Knossos palace in the morning, and I cannot say enough good things about the wine and overall experience. Once we arrived through a windy gravel road we were pleasantly greeted by the 4th generation owner Giannis. I could instantly tell we were going to like this place. Since we were and hour early for the tour we did the wine tasting first with a tasting of extra virgin olive oil and well, then ended up buying a bottle of the dry red wine which was our favorite to enjoy until and during the tour. During the tasting Giannis was very informative and you could tell he has a genuine passion for winemaking and EVOO. It really seems like he puts his heart and soul into the wine, and it's not just a business but a lifestyle for him. During the tour Giannis took my wife and I to the vineyard, explained the varieties of grapes and olives and answered all of the questions we had for him. Afterwards we stuck around and ended up chatting with a world travelling couple who was currently living in Greece and for the time Crete. What we thought was going to be an hour wine tour turned into one of the best 4 hours of our trip to Greece.

Only a quick ~20-30min / 30 euro cab ride from Heraklion. There are a lot of good signs to point the direction, as well. Charming little vineyard in lovely mountain side. The owner, Yannis (sp?), is very friendly & engaging as well. A tasting is only 5 euros, for a tasting & tour its 7 euros. Either way, a bargain for a pleasant outing! You can even factor it into your day’s itinerary as a stop before or after on a visit to Knossos Palace, as well.
