Houmas House Plantation is a must see! It's a 30 minute ride from the Garden District and definitely worth the trip. We did not book in advance and waited less than 15 minutes for the next tour group. The house is unbelievable and the 24 acres of meticulously kept gardens and grounds even more amazing. Some of the trees on... More

Beautiful house and gardens. Great tour guides. You are allowed to take pictures inside. This house should be on your Plantation must see list.

This is a must see! An amazing home with beautiful collections of antiques. The owner actually resides on the property! Our guide was entertaining & informative. I would visit again just to enjoy the beauty of the home & gardens. When you're finished, or before your tour, take the time to have a drink at the Garconniere building & view... More

We had the best tour guide! She was very knowledgeable and made you feel as if she had experienced life in this great house back in its day. The furnishings and decorations were amazing, but my favorite, by far, were the live oaks. We don't have anything like that back home in Oklahoma. Lol.

A hostess checked us in but gave us really pitiful directions to the restaurant. We were never even acknowledged at the restaurant and left. Pitiful. There are so many great places to go in this area, I would just skip this.

I've visited Houmas House several times in the last few years, but yesterday's tour, led by Susan, was the best. She didn't let the fact that she was losing her voice stop her from giving a charming, informative and entertaining presentation of this beautiful and historic house. She's a smart, articulate and beautiful ambassador for the property. And I hope her... More

If you are interested in history this is a great place to go. Our tour guide was a Southern Bell who knew so much history. The original items in the home are unbleverable. The home is unbelerivable. The gardens are so pretty. Had lunch at the Tiger Bar on site.

This is my favorite plantation on the River Road! We love the lush gardens and the home is spectacular! Everyone is knowable including the head gardener who filled us in on the damage from Hurricanes Andrew and Katrinia. The restaurant has a delicious menu and Lauren was spot on with the recommendations of the pork chop followed by the white... More

WE decided since we always come to New Orleans, it was time for a plantation visit. After researching the many we settled on the Houmas House in Darrow, LA. It was little over an hour ride from our hotel West of New Orleans. This place is a must see if you want to see a historical plantation. The tour was... More
