Not too far from the French Quarter area of NOLA is this small battlefield that played a very important role in the War of 1812. On the day we went there was a park ranger who could answer questions. There are placards throughout where you can read history on your own.
Definitely an important part of that war… Highly recommend taking an hour out of your day to come, observe and pay homage to those who fought for our great country!

We visited Chalmette Battlefield while approaching New Orleans. Parking is easy and the monument is impressive. The small Visitor’s Center and the helpful staff assist in understanding the Battle. We drove the path to appreciate the lay of the land. It is obviously a favorite walking path. One wanting a deep understanding of the combat of January 8, 1815 could spend hours there but a quick stop helped us understand the victory of Gen. Andrew Jackson and his men. Definitely worth a stop.

We enjoyed the Chalmette Battlefield and Cemetery. The visitor center shows a very interesting video on the battle of New Orleans that does a great job in capturing the importance of this battle. We picked up the stamp and token for the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park. This is a great place to spend half an afternoon – Highly recommend!

Had to come here, mostly for the history but partly for the song. Had to see the place where in 1814, Jackson and his men took a little trip to.
Went in the morning, just a short, easy drive from the French Quarter. Not many people there and lots of parking available. Lots of plaques around the perimeter of the battlefield to help explain and give a better feel for the battle. There's a Visitors Center there as well with a Ranger or two to answer questions, washrooms and a bit of a picnic area too. Make sure to take the path to the Plantation, it takes you down to the Mississippi River. There are also some stairs that are worth climbing to get a great view of both battlefield and the River.
Overall a great place to visit if you enjoy history.

We took the paddle boat down to the site. The mansion on site stands stark in the middle of a field. We walked over to the monument and looked at the cannons on-site. It was a fun trip.

The Battle of New Orleans may be one of the most misunderstood battle is US history. A short stop at here will enlighten you in 1-2 hours. The Park Rangers are some of the best in the nation. It’s a short trip from New Orleans and easily accessible via the Creole Queen Historic Cruise. One hour here is sufficient and if you have two hours you will easily take it all in. Enjoy, it is worth the trip!

I've been here twice. A couple of years ago I drove here with my husband during our time in NOLA. This time I took one of the river boats and took in the story with a park ranger. Both were good trips and gave me a better understanding of the Battle of New Orleans. Since it's free, found it a great value! Worth the time if you are in New Orleans.

It was good to visit and explain out the Battle of New Orleans to my grandson. With the visitor center closed, it was superficial. The lines of battle were nicely defined so it was not a waste.

Went here for a brief visit as part of the Creole Queen tour. Heard the Park Ranger and the saw the film in the back of the museum which explained the battle that took place here. Andrew Jackson obviously used the victory here to launch his presidency. I did not really have any time to look at most of the exhibits as our paddlewheeler was about to depart so I will need to come back yet again.
