Splendor Farms is truly amazing! We came here for a weekend getaway to celebrate my youngest daughter’s 7th birthday. From the moment of planning our trip and for our entire stay, Ms Kelly and the staff were so wonderful, kind, and helpful. We stayed in the guest cabin. It was perfect. It really gave us some much needed family time and rest and relaxation. The horse rides and petting zoo were great, too! All of the animals are sweet and friendly and the staff is so awesome with answering all questions and assisting guests. We will definitely be returning!!

OK - this may be a BIT different than the normal post but here goes:

We spent the weekend at a Bed & Breakfast in Bush called Splendor Farms.

And Splendid it was!

A working horse / dog / and vegetable farm, it was a fabulous way to spend a family weekend.

Kelly runs the place and is an amazing chef in her own right, inspiring her son to go on to become a chef who currently works at Friends on the Tchefuncte, I believe. Breakfasts were spectacular, with your choice of Herbed omelette, Eggs Benedict, "As Usual" (3 farm eggs as your wish), Huervos Rancheros, French toast, and more. All were preceed by a dish of vanilla yoghurt with a variety of fresh fruit and homemade granola, coffee, tea, juice selection and homemade biscuits or scones or whatever Kelly has whipped up. She also raises veggies for local restaurants like Dakota.

Kelly's other love, clearly, is her aniamls. After breakfast, you're free to enjoy the "Cheese music" and relax on the patio until the trail rides around 10:30. We mounted up and had a lovely sojourn through the acreage on some most agreeable and able mounts. My own, Leo, was a sweetheart - responsive and gentle - he was easily guided away from brushing my leg on nearby tree trunks and was ready to trot when I wanted to.

Afternoons were spent lounging by the pool, reading on the patio and/or fishing in the nearby pond with the cane poles and live worms provided for the purpose.

Evenings were spent at local restaurants for dinner:

Cafe Lynn was amazing: Leslie was delightful and the food was beautifully cooked and presented. The pork osso bucco was tender and flavorful. The scallops were expertly prepared, perfectly cooked. The winelist was good and though it could use a guiding touch, we had a very nice Viognier.

Bosco's was also a pleasant surprise with huge portions so that a salad and appetizier was more than we could each finish. (Finish it we did, for dinner tonight since our room had a refigerator!)

The room we had was simply lovely - a queen bed with yummy down comforters, enough room for our daughter's rollaway bed and a huge bathroom. Want TV? (we didn't) There was one in each room with DirecTV and a DVD player with choices in the Dining room to use.

Love puppies? Go visit the kennels where Kelly raises her beloved longhaired Dachshunds for show and sale.

Love cats and dogs? There are a plethora of sweeties all around all the time: my 12 year old daughter can name them all and tell you about each.

Want to "get away" but hate the thought of dealing with the TSA and their ridiculous vagueries at the airport? Go see Kelly at Splendor Farms and enjoy "getting away" a mere hour from the city.

We visited Splendor Farms Easter weekend and had a wonderful time. The owner/host, Kelly, was very nice and had explained the itinerary for the hours and the breakfast and trail rides there. The breakfasts were delicious! I had the eggs benedict and the huervos rancheros eggs. The yogurt, fresh fruit & granola was very tasty too. I never had that & I’m making it at home now. I also loved the loose leaf tea and she even gave me a baggy of it to take home. I’m hooked on it now & need to find some locally now… The horseback riding trail rides were great. The guides were very nice & helpful. My husband couldn’t go due to healing from an injury so while I did the ride, he went and fed and played with the farm animals (horses, goats, sheep, chickens & a big fat pig). He wanted to fish but it had been raining all week before & was a little muddy around the pond & he only brought the one pair of shoes. He will bring 2 pairs next time. We also loved seeing all the dachshunds. I’m more of a cat person but they were too cute. We stayed in the Queens room, which was very nice, cold a/c & dark at night, just the way I like it. They had a dvd player & Direct TV to watch which my husband loved that. For dinners we ate at the House of Seafood Buffet. Very yummy & filling. The 2nd night we ate at Abita Brewery, which was also very yummy. They let you sample the beers first which I was glad because I didn’t care for a couple of them but loved the Turbo Dog. It was a nice getaway and we had a wonderful time there and would go back again. Thank you Splendor Farms. :o)

Ok where to begin with this mess.. this lady is rude and very cold hearted. It was a group of 4 going to ride horses, 2 of us are from out of town and wanted to experience what horseback riding was like. One of my friends got heat exhaustion and we could not make it. We had notified the owner and she did not accept it at all. We had a few other things planned like a horse carriage ride in new orleans and they had canceled due to high heat, giving us a full refund with 0 issues.

She did not want to give us a full refund or any refund at all, she was very hard to deal with. Ive looked at other reviews and they had mentioned the samething, she is hostile and rude. She is all about the money and greedy. I will not recommend this place to anyone, i rather hang out in a garbage dump than go to this place even if i had a free ride.

On June 30, 2014, I took my family to Splendor Farms in Bush, LA. The following is a true and accurate statement of our experiences during our stay...

My children wanted to go horseback riding and after searching the internet, they found the website for Splendor Farms in Bush, LA. I went online and researched and found many negative reviews and also positive reviews about this place... I was to find out later that the positive reviews must have been left by friends and family of Splendor Farms or by the management itself.

We checked in on June 30th at 4pm. Check in was at 3pm, but we got a call from Kelly (the owner) telling us that she had to run errands and no one would be there, so we went an hour later. As we pulled up, a pack of FILTHY dogs surrounded my truck and were barking. Some of them jumped on and scratched my truck!!! I told Kelly what had happened and she just shrugged it off, "Well, you are on a farm".

This whole trip was about horseback riding for us. From 5pm to the next morning we made the best of the filthy and uncomfortable accommodations provided...more about this to come.
The next day, we woke up at 7am to do the "farm" things that were so talked about on their website. No one was friendly enough to even stop to talk to us.

At 9:30am, we all went over to the stables for horseback riding. It was ONLY THEN that it was told to us that I would not be able to ride with my family because I was too heavy. I am 270lbs. I understand the weight limit of 250lbs and had no problem with that.... I DID however have a problem with the fact that it was not told to me until I was already at the stables and ready to go.... She could have told me when we checked in and I told her I was looking forward to horseback riding.

Now, she explained to me that there was an additional $45 attached to each of us for the hoseback riding and "other amenities"...and that even though I could not participate in horseback riding, I was still going to pay the $45 for myself. REALLY!!!?? Because, and I quote... "You are paying for an all inclusive bed and breakfast experience".

That being said, I will now DETAIL this "All Inclusive" experience:

THE STENCH

From the moment I opened my truck door until after I left, my nostrils were filled with the aroma of fresh squeezed feces. If you enjoy the smell of animal dung, this is the place for you!

BREAKFAST

When we found this place online, it was advertised as a bed and breakfast. The "breakfast" that we got was muffins wrapped in cellophane, three yogurts, juice, and three apples located in a mini fridge next to a disgusting toilet that would not flush...LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO THE NASTY BROKEN TOILET.

POOL AREA

The pool was filthy. There was not only a lot of debris floating in the pool, but also swimming bugs, and worse of all, dead frogs floating in the pool. To top off this "experience" the biting flies and mosquitoes were so bad that we could not spend more than 10 minutes out there before we had to go inside.

"PETTING ZOO"

This is NOT like any petting zoo I have ever been too. The ground was "Slip-n-slide sloppy" and muddy, the animals were covered in mud and dirt and biting flies. The "zoo" as it is described on their website consists of a few goats, sheep, and two ponys...one of which bit my 10 year old daughter and drew blood. Once again, the owner shrugged this off with the, "you ARE on a farm" excuse.

THE PUPPY FARM

The only clean place we saw animals here was at the puppy farm. Kelly keeps the puppies in a very clean area. That is because she needs to show her puppies to potential customers. We were not allowed to go into the pen with the puppies unless we...and I quote..."are prepared to pay $1500 in case one gets hurt" because she said, her puppies are special and that is what she sells them for. Nice attitude. Now, although the puppy area was clean, the place where they keep the adult dogs they breed was atrocious. The SPCA should make a surprise inspection....don't worry, I called them.

NASTY ATTITUDE OF THE OWNER

Kelly Bensabat...what can I say about this "lovely" woman? I don't think she is capable of a smile. Every interaction with her was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. All of us...including my children, were made to feel as if we were intruding on her property. There was not even a speck of a welcoming feeling. Her permanent scowl made my children want to stay in the room because they were afraid that she would yell at them. Picture the woman in the beginning of the Wizard Of OZ that took Toto away...Almira Gulch...THAT IS HOW THIS WOMAN ACTS.

PRICE

Our very short and uncomfortable stay at this place cost us $240. When I complained about me having to pay for horseback riding even though I could not ride, I was told that she was charging me anyway because it was an "all inclusive" deal.

Friends, I truly hope you heed my warning and steer very clear of this nasty and stinky place.
Yours truly,

Brett Thomas

We have received and read your review. This review is hysterical. I commend you for your imagination. You forgot the part when you were so happy until you learned that at 325 pounds you exceeded our weight limit and would not be allowed to ride. You also forgot the part when you were polite to our trail guide about not being able to accommodate you, but you were hostile and a bully to me when we were alone, threatening me with writing bad reviews about me all over the universe! Oh, and we all enjoyed the story of how you told our trail guide you were 260 pounds and your daughter said "daddy, you were 325 yesterday when you got on the scales!" Thank you, Brett, we enjoyed the laugh. Based on the fact we have received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor for the past two years, and we have numerous honest reviews on our website, as well as on Trip Advisor, we will just have to ignore your bullying, dishonest, sensationalizing personality, staged photos, and let our attorneys take care of the rest. Best of luck to you. I would like to add, I have played your voice mails to the authorities and they were not amused with your "what I have done so far has barely scratched the surface of what I can do to you...." message.

After purchasing a Groupon to Splendor Farms B&B ($250 for two nights) several months ago, we looked forward to a weekend away from the city to relax and see a part of Louisiana we're don't often visit. We spent a very enjoyable weekend at Splendor Farms - we enjoyed horseback riding, relaxing in the pool, feeding goats, and petting dachsund puppies, as well as exploring the Northshore. Kelly's breakfasts were delicious - she's a great cook, as well as an accomodating host. The rooms are small and dated, but welcoming; our bed was uncomfortable however, and squeeky. Overall, we enjoyed our stay despite occasional inconveniences, but were very dissapointed upon our checkout to receive a bill for $130 beyond the expected cost of the weekend. While there is no mention on the Groupon of additional charges (other than the standard "tax and gratuity not included"), we were given a bill for tax (charged on "pre-coupon" value of the rooms - $550) as well as 15% gratuity on the entire pre-coupon bill - $130 total. While I don't disagree with paying tax, I've never had to do so when purchasing any other Groupon - and certainly not on the entire "pre-coupon" value, which also appears to be articificially inflated. I'm particularily angered, however, by the mandatory 15% gratuity on the entire (again, pre-coupon) bill. I've never been charged a mandatory gratuity at a B&B - and if this is standard policy, it should be included on the Groupon advertisement at the time of purchase. A $130 surprise (over half the initial bill!) at checkout is bad business and soured an otherwise pleasant weekend away. We did let Kelly know that we felt misled and overcharged - while she expressed understanding, she did not revise the bill.

Do not go to this place! Do not buy one of the many internet deals! It is an awful experience. Other than breakfast, the rest of the place is a joke. Please note that you are asked for tips for everything including housekeeping. This is big business to these owners. I would rather go to prison than go anywhere near this property again...as you may have to tip the owner when driving up their driveway.

Any LivingSocial and Groupon deals have explicitly stated that tax is not included in the deal price. You pay them for the voucher, and when your ride/stay is over, you pay us for the tax, which we're required to charge by law. Tax is 8.75% based on the amount paid for the voucher, per the St. Tammany Parish Tax Office. For a $75.00 trail ride voucher, the tax is $6.56. It's that simple. Gratuity is not included and is definitely not mandatory. We invite anyone to visit our website to see all the photos and comments from trail riders, including bed and breakfast guests and summer campers from the past 10 years. We sincerely hope you'll take a look. We have a nice farm, good staff, friendly and gentle horses and livestock, and we appreciate your visit. Why this reviewer calls our farm a joke is a mystery, please, reviewer, let us know why you were so unhappy.

My girlfriend and I wanted to check out this place after seeing it in a magazine showing attractions in the area, and I thought this would a pretty place to visit. I thought one Saturday afternoon would be a nice time to see the horses, grounds, and dogs mentioned being there. I definitely didn't want to intrude or bother anyone. Once my girlfriend and I parked and got out, a lady approached us in a manner that made us feel very unwelcomed and like we were intruding on a private residence. I wasn't really sure if the place was open to the public. "Next time make a phone call before you just show up..." I felt sorry I had no idea we had too, and didn't see the harm in visiting the place. After all there is a billboard for it off of Highway 41. She did reluctantly lead us to the area with all the pupies and horses for a few minutes. I really enjoyed the sight of them and asked a few questions to which she shot back with short, rude, condescending replies then wandered away from us. We got the hint! There are plenty of other bed and breakfasts on the Northshore, go check those out instead!

If there were an option to give this two different ratings I would-
The trail ride- 5 stars
Customer Service by owner- 1 star
So, I averaged it, which is why this is a 3 star review
My wife and I took a two hour trail ride which we found out about through Groupon. It was an awesome experience. Beautiful scenery and great horses made it a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. In this respect I would highly recommend this location.
However, my complaint revolves around the customer service. This was my first visit to Splendor Farms, and was also my first time riding a horse. The unpleasantness began with my first phone call to Splendor farms to book my appointment. The phone was answered by an extremely unfriendly and unhelpful woman. I later found out that this is the owner. I was given no information about what to expect, and was ultimately rushed off the phone.
Upon our arrival, we were not greeted or welcomed in any fashion. Until we asked to use the bathroom our presence was not even acknowledged. We weren't shown or led to the bathroom, and accidentally ended up at the front door of the establishment where we encountered the rude owner. We were made to feel as if we were trespassing! When we asked where the bathroom was we were pointed in a general direction and shooed away.
Payment time was no better, I had to use a credit card and was given an extremely hard time, where it almost seemed as if I was being made to feel guilty that credit card companies charge a fee! Funny, if they had been more helpful on the phone they could have even told me that cash is preferred and I might have been able to plan ahead.
But alas, to summarize, I highly recommend the horses, the trail ride, and the property, but the business owner needs some solid work on her personal skills to make this somewhere I would want to bring my business again.
To top it off, I will also mention, I was not once thanked for my business, and ultimately left feeling like I had been unwelcome.

Purchased a puppy from Splendor - flew from Cali - Got there , was greeted by 2 dirty farm dogs. - The kennel was filthy - I had to wait for the owner and while walking to the waiting area ( by the filthy pool ) I was ankle deep in mud-
When I got the pup to MY vet , she diagnosed: Giardia, Coxidia, Tapeworms, FLEAS, and Hookworm- The owner is rude and defensive - she runs nothing more than a puppy mill masked by a farm with a B & B horses, a petting zoo etc.
