- katedVenice, Florida16 contributionsBeautiful butIt's fun to take the bus from Puerta Vallarta once you find the bus stop. Beautiful garden but save your energy if you go to the river as its lots of stairs down and up. You can swim but rocky bottom tough on feet The gift shop has lovely, expensive things. A tshirt was over $100! We bought a $12 bug spray but no bugs. Restaurant had good foodSo great to hear you had a good time, we hope to see you soon back again. - Dawn-Dusk-2012Minneapolis, Minnesota71 contributionsStunning GardenWe did not go on a tour. My friend and I took an Uber for the 40-minute drive to the gardens on a warm day in Puerto Vallarta. We were surprised to find the skies overcast and the temperature very chilly. (Since there was only a fancy shawl to buy in the store, my friend bought a tablecloth for a shawl. I had brought a sun jacket.) An hour after our arrival, it began to lightly rain. Nevertheless, the gardens are stunning with many wandering paths. There is a large restaurant where we had lunch. Our server was very gracious, letting my friend try a couple Mexican wines. We both tasted them and turned them down. I had Jamaica (hibiscus) tea without ice and my friend had a beer. We both ordered tortilla soup which was artfully served but tasted like tomato soup with crisp tortilla strips. My friend liked the pizza she ordered. My Oven Nachos were OK.Hello, Thank you for your comments we hope to see you soon back!Written February 16, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Traveled with friendsWritten February 11, 2024

Abraham was knowledgeable, informative and friendly guide to take us through the gardens and down to the river. Botanical Garden themselves were spectacular and a great place to visit. The Restaurant was excellently with a great variety of food that tasted fantastic. The Tour is well worth it. The bus there was comfortable and provided great scenery and in-depth cometary from Abraham. I would definitely recommend this Tour.Great to hear that you had a good time, thank you for your kind comments. Hope to have you back again at the gardens. - dang20152015Indian Head, Canada111 contributionsGreat Garden to visitMy wife and I took an uber to the gardens which was 450 pesos. It was nice ride out. The entrance booth was set up nicely, you get a wrist band upon entry. It was 600 pesos for my wife and I to enter. I found out on one of the signs that 60 percent of the garden's funding comes from gate entry and 600 pescos for two is reasonable for what you get to see. There is a board map to show you the areas and trails. We got there around 11am. We toured many of the close trails. There is just so much to see. Being from Canada most of the plants we seen are house plants for us, so it was nice to see them in their natural habitat. You can buy plants at this garden, and there is a gift shop. It had many plant related items such as pots, and books about plants. The restaurant was nice as it is up top and you can see around the trees a bit. The meal was good. There was a violinist and pianist playing while we ate. That was a nice touch. They take credit card as well. We toured a bit more of the garden. We were not able to take it all in this day, but we did see quite a bit. While waiting for a taxi which the entrance booth called in for us which was much appreciated, I seen signage for all the land that they have purchased over the years to keep in perpetuity for wildlife. There is still land available next to the botanical garden to purchase. I hope they can purchase it and expand their protected area. Worth seeing. We will be back and hope to see more land secured and protected by the botanical garden.Thank you for your comments it is nice to hear you had a good time. We hope to see you back soon again! - ABKL0505Sheffield, United Kingdom193 contributionsAbsolutely Beautiful & So Worthy of a VisitWe decided to hop on the local bus from Zona Romantica and visit the Botanical Gardens independently. The bus ride was fun and cheap & drops your off right outside. Lovely to see sights along the way, places where you might want to discover at a later date. The gardens themselves are absolutely beautiful! We spent hours here, looking at all the different plants/flowers & relaxing. We enjoyed food and drinks in the restaurant and looking out at all the bird feeders expertly hung for close ups of many different birds including hummingbirds. The staff around the gardens were very knowledgeable & friendly. We loved our visit & would highly recommend.Thank you for your comments we remain at your service !Written March 29, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 23, 2024
- Sunshine562164Castro Valley, California9 contributionsA pleasant experience! The garden is magical. It’s main building which is the gift shop and the restaurant is beautiful. I loved their koi ponds and the church too. So glad we made our way there. Took many photos. The weather wasn’t too hot and on Saturday in June it wasn’t crowded at all. We(5 people) took uber from our hotel at Zona Romantic ($53) and return via city bus ($15). Lunch at the restaurant was memorable.Thank you for your comments we are very happy to know you had a great time. - ZTravelSanta Cruz, California8 contributionsBeautiful hidden gem outside of the cityAmazing hidden gem about a 50 minute drive from the Zona Hotelera. We drove a rental car through Old Town which was hectic but the costal road out of town and into the mountains was pretty easy and had beautiful views. Be ready for lots of potholes and speed bumps on the way. Parking at the gardens was free but limited, getting there right at opening at 9am made it easier. It’s good to pack sunscreen and bug spray, although they do sell bug spray there for not too pricy. There’s a map of the gardens at the entrance to take a photo of and plenty to explore. The Jaguar Path at the back of the garden was a chance to see lots of wildlife- lizards, frogs, spiders, and butterflies. Definitely keep an eye on your surroundings as you hike because the spiders are all over in the morning. The view of the river at the bottom of the trail was great. Really enjoyed the various greenhouses, memorial gardens, and the small chapel which was decorated inside and home to a group of peacocks. We didn’t try the restaurant but did wander through the gift shop which had some pretty insane prices, I wanted to get a small cotton tote bag screenprinted with the same pattern as the walls inside the chapel but the price was about $125 US dollars.Thank you for comments and visit we are very happy to hear that you had a nice time at the garden. Definitely worth the visit to this pristine garden. It is Beautifully & well groomed. So many unique varieties of plants.
Caution: trails around the grounds are not smooth and can be tough to navigate. A gentleman fell down a bushy ravine on the trail we were traveling. Sand on the stairs/paths can be slick. We wore sandals & Birkenstock’s. Expect to get a workout, the river was clean & cool. We brought swim suits & towels but there is no place to change. Wadding in the water cooled us off.
The restaurant has a nice menu the cost is a bit on the high side for lunch- tacos $15/USD. They accept both USD & Pesos, but Bring pesos as the conversion to USD is not good.
We took the city bus- it was only $30/pesos. It was a nice ride along the coast.

We decided to visit the gardens last minute and took a taxi from Puerto Vallarta for about £15 (and the bus back for £2 each!). The gardens were beautiful, with lots of different walks and species to look at. Lots of different birds and butterflies, including a very inquisitive macaw. We took advantage of a free nature walk for the first half hour or our visit which I would recommend - the guide provided lots of hints for what to look out for along our routes and was very informative about the history of the gardens. Would definitely recommend for people wanting to get out of PV for a day!

If you love flowers and seeing native plants in their natural habitat, this is a place for you. Originally started as an orchid sanctuary, this property has extended to include multiple species of orchids and wildlife as well. Photos speak volumes so the majority of this post will be the photos so you can experience the atmosphere.
Well worth the Approx 30-45 minute drive outside of Puerto Vallarta. We took an Uber there. Taxi back. Roughly 500 pesos there. Roughly 350 pesos back. Entry was 200 pesos per person.
We had some chips and guacamole for a snack in the restaurant. They also bring you a complimentary beverage. Ours was watermelon water. The glass came with a flower on the rim. For some reason this always surprises me because it’s actually a flower preservation program. So picking a flower to add it to the rim of a glass seems a bit counter to the program.
Service in the restaurant is prompt and efficient. Many folks speak both English and Spanish.

Beautiful place, with amazing staff, delicious food and diverse nature.
The drive to the botanical gardens is beautiful, there is no data there so if you take an Uber, on the way back you'll have to ask the front staff to call you a cab which takes around 15 minutes.
The property is very well kept and the trails are gorgeous, some parts of the trails are a bit strenuous but beautiful. The restaurant has a great breeze going all the time to cool off after a hike/walk.
The restaurant has amazing food and the gift shop has a great collection of gifts that are reasonably priced.
A great experience!

There is Old Town Puerto Vallarta, there is the Bay, and there are the beautiful people and the genuine hospitality in the city of Puerto Vallarta and the valley, but the very essence of what Mexico is and what the Puerto Vallarta region has to offer can all be found at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens. We were so fortunate to have Eduardo as our driver on the bus ride to the gardens and as a personal guide through the winding paths of absolute beauty. A very knowledgeable, polite, articulate young man who took the time to understand us and what we wanted to experience from this beautiful country. It was truly almost emotional the moment of just stepping off the ride and experiencing the vision and vibes of the place; one of our parties even teared up. Eduardo's explanation of the plants local to this region, their scientific names when asked, and the native medicinal uses of the plant among the local people was astounding. With care he discussed the plants, the balance of nature, the wildlife in that region and the life of Vanilla and Chocolate. The lunch was outstanding, personal, and presented with a hibiscus tea and a wonderful vanilla mojito. The fajita that I had was better than any fajita I’ve experienced. After lunch we were allowed to walk alone through the garden, down to the River where we saw huge colorful birds.
Trust. Ask for Eduardo, book your very inexpensive tour, leave your Wi-Fi needs behind and allow yourself to become one with the universe in these gardens.

Amazing experience! A must do experience to PV. Your ticket is good for 2 visits within same week if you have the time for that. We wanted to do every trail and relax at river, swim, and eat at the gorgeous restaurant so we found an extra day allowed us to relax and take it all in. The bus back, across the street and up hill a few hundred feet at bus shack was easy and 30p to get to romantic zone. Taxi stand is there also at gate so pay a little more and drive back in comfort, as the bus was hot, crowded and bumpy but if you have a good spine and back, it’s survivable! 😂 THE gardens Open at 9am- 200peso and reservations ahead are not needed. But worth calling to confirm it is open. They close at 6pm but some trails close at 5 pm. Check hours at restaurant as they may also close at 5, not sure. Lots to see and do. We went at a time that we didn’t really need bug spray but did get a few bites so def don’t forget that. And bathing suit if you wish to cool off in river on rio or chachalaca trails.

We took a day tour with Discovery Tours which took us to Vallarta Botanical Gardens. What a stunning place!
Warning to those who are mobility-challenged however: a lot of cobblestone road (though not all of it) which meant that hubby opted to stay put.
We had a one hour narrated tour with a great guide. And an hour to wander around on our own.
There is a restaurant onsite which we didn’t check out. Our tour had us lunching in the village of Las Juntas y Los Veranos where we enjoyed a lovely meal, which was likely less expensive than one onsite would have been.
The Visitor’s Guide is excellent and describes the great lengths the Garden goes to enhance conservation of this important area.
A real must for anyone visiting Vallarta.

Someone I met on a tour said we shouldn’t miss this place and she was so right! The garden is extensive, with acres of trails and beautiful tropical plants and flowers everywhere you look. We just walked it ourselves, but next time I might go with a guide to get more information about the plants and birds. The restaurant and gift shop are also pleasant places to spend some time.
It took almost an hour from our hotel by cab, but we really enjoyed seeing the towns and countryside along the way, and it wasn’t expensive for such a long trip.

Had a great tour led by Ruby - she was incredibly knowledgeable about the entire place. She shared lots of information and made our tour really interesting by giving us all kinds of leaves to smell and taste. She is obviously very proud of the gardens and was a total delight! The meal we were served at the restaurant was great - because we were on the "tasting" tour, we received dishes that are not on the menu. Really enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely go back the next time we're in Puerto Vallarta.

This was the highlight of our 6 days in Puerta Vallarta. I was looking for something to do that might be cooler than super hot and super humid and this area is high in the mountain and was simply amazing. Its about a $20 cab ride from the Sheraton hotel for reference. We hired a cab at the hotel for the day for $75.00 and he stayed with us and took as all over until we got back to town about 3:30. (we left at 9:00am) there are usually cabs there if you want to just take one up and back. I think it is $10.50 US each to enter. we were there with our two adult children (25,28).
This place is simply beautiful and we all sounded like kids yelling "hey, look at this"! nearly all at the same time looking at different things. That's how fun it was. Trails are a bit sketchy in places, but safe. Just don't wear flip flops. You will NOT be disappointed in the place. No tour needed. Just walk around and look for hours. It goes really fast.
We also ate at their restaurant and it was super good. We had great appetizers and a couple of shared meals and it was all extremely good. Service A+ without questions and beautiful humming birds everywhere. Eat there and spend some money. Food is extremely good, but not cheap, but they need to make money to support the place so make the effort. It is great food and a good way to cool off.
Don't miss this place if you to Vallarta. It is well worth the time!!!

How much time should we allow for our visit?
Written September 7, 2022
Your entry pass allows 2 visits within same week. If you love beautiful flowers and walking/hiking, you could do 2 days. There’s many trails and a lovely restaurant with hummingbird feeders. There’s a river down below the restaurant (rio trail), you could dip in there to cool off if time permits. I’d plan a full day! There’s certain times of year they are closed on Monday’s so be aware if that if I’m off season.

I'm assuming the question is what is the bus rate to the gardens. I can't answer that as we booked a tour which included pick up by their very nice van from our hotel, guided tour and lunch, all of which were fabulous. I have been twice before, unguided, and this was well worth every penny.

How transportation from the cruise ship work? How long is the trip there?
Written March 9, 2019
Hello 260dawna,
The Vallarta Botanical Garden is offering his new BOTANICAL DELIGHTS Tour & Culinary Adventure. The garden can pass directly to Marina Vallarta where the cruise ship arrives to pick you up, the only thing you need to do is to book your tour at TripAdvisor and send a mail to the garden (search mail at their web site) requesting your pick up at Marina Vallarta, with the time of arrival and departure of the ship. I hope this info helps you.

Do you have to pre buy tickets or can you purchase at the door
Written January 28, 2019
Hi,
You can buy the general ticket entrance at the gates of the Botanical Garden. If you want to book a tour, you have to do it in avance.
Cheers
