My family was on a road trip and was only going to be in Baton Rouge for a single day, so we wanted a unique way to see the city, learn about its culture, and also partake in its many different cuisines. Red Stick Adventures' "All About Baton Rouge Food Tour" was the perfect way to do all of these things in one.

When we booked the tour, we let Red Stick know that our family is not huge on seafood (which for the area is probably unfortunate due to the great seafood there) and that one of our sons can be a picky eater. Red Stick did a great job of working with us and creating a tour that was perfect for our culinary tastes.

Susan, our tour guide, picked us up at our hotel in Baton Rouge in a very spacious van/limo that could have easily transported ten people in comfort and explained how the tour would work, that we would be stopping at five different places over the next few hours (each place was a surprise) and that each stop would represent both the culture and the history of the city of Baton Rogue.

I won't spoil the individual stops in this review (because it was fun to be surprised about what we were going to eat and why) but I can say that every stop was a delight. The food was out of this world, there wasn't a place I wouldn't have gone back to try more, and everyone in the family found something during the tour that they fell in love with (even our younger son who can be challenged by unique foods). By stop four it was getting hard to find space to continue to fit in more of the different delicacies, but we made it through to the end with super full stomachs and smiles on our faces.

I do want to specifically say that this tour could have just been about the food, but our tour guide Susan really made it about the city. Between stops she filled in why we were going to each place with history about the city, played us local music to keep us in the mood of the town, and was very good about answering questions we might have had along the way. It was also clear that she had great relationships with each of the restaurant owners (some who were able to stop by and tell us more about their place and how it fit into the culture of Baton Rogue) so it didn't feel like we were just going from food stop to food stop, but that we were actually learning as we went about the city, how it evolved, and how different cultures contributed to it over time.

Finally, since we were in town for only a single day, we asked if there was any time for us to go to the more downtown area so that we could see the state capitol and Susan was super accommodating, taking us in between stops not only to the capitol building but also all around downtown, showing us different buildings and talking about the history of how the state government grew up in Baton Rogue.

If you are in the area and want to find a way to tour the city but do it in a way that is unique (and tasty) I cannot recommend Red Stick Adventures highly enough. Just make sure not to have lunch beforehand or schedule any big dinner plans after because every stop is delicious and you will definitely be full by the time Susan drops you back off at your hotel.

We went on the haunted tour, one of my favorite ways to learn about the history of a city is a ghost tour. I loved Susan's stories, and this is the first time I've been on a ghost tour where we've used recorders and EMF devices to add another element of fun to the tour. It was a great experience.

Susan was such a great tour guide! She was very knowledgeable on the History of Baton Rouge and the ghost stories she told. I loved that she shared pictures and audio/video of real encounters of her other tours to show proof and encouraged us to try to catch something ourselves. This was the best Ghost Tour I've been on! I also loved the fact that we could walk around two different cemeteries at night! Super creepy but fun!

One of the most informative and enjoyable city tours that we have taken over the years in various cities across North America. Our guide Susan was amazing. Her knowledge and narrative was top rate and couldn't have been better. Thank-you Susan. The vehicle accomodation was very comfortable and easily accessible. She picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off, Great customized tour, highly recommend this as a must do when in the city, especially for the first time.

The food tour was a lot of fun! I would never have found the hidden gems that were shown to me. Our tour guide displayed a great deal of knowledge about all the food we ate, and it was so delicious! I would highly recommend taking a few hours out of your day to check out a variety of local restaurants. It was a cool experience for me to share with some of my friends.

Our family (2 adults and our 13-year old son) took the City Tour and absolutely loved it! Our guide, Susan, was very knowledgable and told us many interesting stories about the history of Baton Rouge. I especially appreciated that she tailored the tour to skip the places we'd already been and focus on showing us other things. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Baton Rouge.

This was a great sight seeing trip! Susan was very knowledgeable and informative. The vehicle was clean and very comfortable.

We had a limited amount of time in Baton Rouge and we were so happy we booked this tour as we were able to see all of the noteworthy sights around the city.

My teenage boys both enjoyed the tour, which is a true testament of how good it was.

I highly recommend this tour!

This was my first visit to Baton Rouge. I did not have a car, so wanted to see the city with a driver/guide, and also do a walking tour. I found both with Red Stick. Susan did my driving tour the first day. She was very personable and knowledgeable about the city, and told me a lot of interesting facts I would not have known otherwise. The second day I did the walking tour with Erin. Like Susan, she knows the city well and showed me a lot I would have never seen just looking around on my own. I highly recommend this company.

We did the food tour and got stuffed with amazing food, wonderful people and authentic places. The real secret ingredient making this tour an absolute must do is Susan. She knows all the good - and I mean GOODDEE - places to eat. Po'boys from Jed's Local, muffelata from Cannatella, Cajun bbq Jambalaya, smoked gouda mac and boudin egg roll from Hannah Q and beignets from Coffee Call. All places had kind service. Susan entertained us with fun facts and music from local artists, made photos, had so much interesting stories to tell about the foods, the restaurants and the history of Baton Rouge and even gave us additional info and addresses for the cities we are planning to go to next. On top she had one of the restaurants treat us to a little surprise for my friend's birthday! We wish we could take her during our entire US trip. Highly recommended!

The food tour was absolutely one of the best we have been on. Our guide , Susan, was wonderful- full of information about the area and the food. We were first picked up at our hotel in a comfortable van. We then went to 5 different local restaurants with a “taste” at each. So much fabulous food! We were even supplied containers and a cooler for what we couldn’t eat. Highly recommend the tour and every restaurant we visited.
