Horseback riding

I LOVE to ride horses there. My friends & I go as often as we can. The trails are shady and the scenery cannot be beat- lots of gorgeous old cypress trees. It's a peaceful place... read more

In my opinion, Chemin-A-Haut is the best state park in Louisiana. It is located in a beautiful, secluded area of northeast Louisiana, very close to its border with Arkansas. It has quite a few cabins for rent. I have stayed in most of them through the years and found them all to be very clean and comfortable. It has several... More

My family has had many family gatherings at the lodge here, most recently a 90th birthday party for my grandmother . The newer cabins are nice, 2 years in a row I've rented one for my sons birthday. This park has a few walking trails and a lake that's good for fishing. They rent kayaks. They have Dutch oven cook... More

We just went to this park and it was a major disappointment! We stayed in the group cabin for our family reunion, and I received a phone call the day before my reservation that the stove would not be operational. Ever tried to feed 100 people with no stove?? In addition, the pool has been closed for the past two... More

This old park I should just outside Bastrop, La. It has lots of cabins both old and new and lots of campsites. It's a great place for church activities, family outings and the like. It now boasts a kayak tour featuring 100 year old Cypress trees to boat to and even through. Great Louisiana Vistas and things to do. A... More

We rented cabin #12 from July 1 to July 3 which means we were there before the 4th of July crowd. The cabin was well situated away from other cabins & was clean and comfy. I started my morning sitting on the dock with a cup of coffee just enjoying all the wildlife sounds. The park rangers were very friendly... More

The pool was closed due to budget cuts. No other place to swim. Needed mowed and weeded. The cabins are over priced for what you get. And the public restroom was in desperate need of attention.

I LOVE to ride horses there. My friends & I go as often as we can. The trails are shady and the scenery cannot be beat- lots of gorgeous old cypress trees. It's a peaceful place. I wouldn't want to stay in a cabin but I would camp there in a motor home because their facilities are old & worn... More

the large cabin overlooked the water and was so serene. And clean and comfortable. Canoes were delivered and picked up as promised; great little branch for first time canoe lessons. Pool was sparkling clean; staff were courteous. It is also lovely in the fall.

Chemin-a-Haut SP, Bastrop, LA. When we arrived on 5/22/15, bathrooms & showers were so disgusting we would not use. They were dirty and had an invasion of 1" millipedes crawling around EVERYWHERE! As of 5/25 conditions have improved somewhat...not as many critters due to daily cleaning. Still won't use showers. Wireless Internet connection doesn't work in CG but am told... More
