I visited Jim Corbett National Park near Ramnagar with my wife in April 2023. This park has the highest population of tigers in India, so offers one of the best opportunities to see the sub-continent's apex predator. We did two gypsy (private jeep) safaris (in Birjani and Jhirna zones) and two canter (shared truck) safaris (in Dhikala zone). We were fortunate to see a tiger in Birjani for an extended period and glimpse a tiger briefly in Dhikala. We also saw many other animals, including elephants, jackal, deer, monkeys, wild boar and marten. This is not Africa (where the flatter topography is far more friendly to sightings) so this represents a great outcome for two days in the park. Dhikala zone is the most famous, however it is especially hilly plus the canters (which most tourists visit this zone in) are very loud (scaring away animals, including the tiger we saw in this zone) and views more obstructed (jostling with 16 others to see). Given the price is comparable, taking the gypsy in other zones is probably a better plan. Ultimately, though, this national park could be managed better, which is the reason for the lower rating. The driver/guide quality is inconsistent, some brilliant, some disinterested. The hygiene of the toilets inside the park is the worst I've seen. Furthermore, the promising website only allows booking for individuals with both an Indian mobile number and bank account, but has no warnings to reveal this (just an ambiguous "failed transaction" message). Foreigners will need the help of a local (eg. tour agency) to book. The WhatsApp helpline is inconsistently manned, sometimes responding in minutes other times weeks. The email address is not manned at all. The booking slips don't explain clearly that the two pickup locations are the park gate (different for each zone) or the park office (next to the bus station in Ramnagar). The drivers of gypsies are meant to confirm before the trip where you want to be picked up via WhatsApp (again, unhelpful if your WhatsApp number is not the Indian number required for booking) and do this inconsistently. The canter drivers do not confirm so you need to be on time or risk missing out. The park office, in general, is in disarray, with all queries going to one very overworked woman with a pile of paper booking slips in front of her. Better management would help the park realise its potential and, in turn, benefit the local community.

As an adventure seeker it was my first trip to a national park. Te booking process was seamless. The Govt. Website is veru user friendly and you can book permits at nominL charges of the park authority. Fees varies for Indian nationals and Foreign nationals. They also provide you option to either select your gypsy or get one randomly alloted. The voucher generated carries all details including the gypsy number and drivers contact details...so it saves your time in looking after details.. With 350 tigers left in the park, the park aslo offers variety of flaura and fauna to soothe your eyes.. The park has total 8 gates. Ideal time to visit is from Mid September to 1 st week of June. Though dhikala opens in November and closes in by may end, June 1st week. Remember to book your reservations in advance for dhikala as it is an experience of its own kind to stay and experience the silent jungle. The booking window is 45 days prior. Also canter safari is also organised in dhikala in two slots. MORNING and Afternoon with nominal charges INR 1600 per person.

Pick any travel agent for booking a safari or you can do it yourself. You will get a govt certified guide at the entry of the whatever gate you have chosen Jhirna and Dhela zones are recommended The entry is easy, they take your IDs, check your cameras and you are on your way through whatever gate you are at. One can rent a pair of binoculars at the gate for Rs. 200 too and it is advised if you aren’t carrying your own. They come in handy for bird watching or if animals are out of normal sight range Advise carrying a head band or scarf to keep your hair in check if you have long hair coz the breeze is strong or a hat would do and it would keep the sun away too. If travelling during the winter months carry a sweater or a jacket for the morning safari, it tends to get a bit chilly. Summer or winter carry sunscreen as some areas have no forest cover and the sun does shine bright here I’ve done a few safaris over the few years and my experience with the guides that accompany you has always been good

Overall It was an amazing experience. You feel in the lap of nature and well connected. Don’t go with an over excitement of watching tiger as it completely depends on the Mood of buddy but if you are a nature lover than it would be great journey for you. We went with a group of friends and their families and it was a memorable experience. You may find some difficulties if travelling with small kids as it’s very difficult for them to maintain a silence, which is required if you are in a search of tiger.

Jim Corbett National park is one of the best Jungle in India. You can experiences ample amount of wild life activities inside the park. The place it self is a photographer's paradise. The jungle serenity, coolness is really worth of million. This is one of the best place to see the Nature at its best.

Went on 4 safari's to Jim Corbett in March. It was a wonderful experience! I saw so many incredible animals, including a Tiger! I was very happy to see how peaceful this park was. It is well taken care of and people really respect the nature!
