...into a mountain with beautifully exquisite views of the ocean, beaches, and the sleepy little town of Khao Tao. Make your way up and discover wonderful Buddhist statues, icons, and treasurs till you reach the Big Buddha lording over it all. I am both humbled and since coming...

Really nice temple. Walk the different stairs to the top where you see the big Buddha and have the most beautiful view over the fishing village and beaches, remember to bring water for the walk to the top.

It is a nice Temple complex with many different things to see
on a small Hill at the coastline.
On the Top over many stairs is a big golden Buddha with a
beautiful view to Hua Hin and Khao Takiab.

It is nice to walk along the beach from Suan Son in a good hour,
or you can walk from Khao Takiab.
On the way back to Hua Hin you walk 30 minutes to the Mainroad,
along a nice sea.
The red Bus or some of the white Minibusses bring you back.

About 15km South of Hua Hin (all taxis & tuk-tuks know it) is the village of Khao Tao.
At it's Southern-most end there's a network of temple buildings, walkways, salas to sit in, & sat above you is a huge Buddha image, that once you've climbed to steep winding path thru' the trees, you can enjoy the view of the beach & bay.
Please note the way to the top is steep & unsuitable for elderly folk, disabled people & infants.
Behind the Buddha image is a short walk onto a big rock..care is needed to scramble up to the rock's highest point, but the view over the next beach is worth it.
the place is much quieter on weekdays, & free (except for any temple donations you may wish to leave). Take your cameras.

This temple is wonderful. It is truly unique - carved into the side of a cliff with views overlooking the coastline. Stunning. Not in a well known area and so the tourists tend to stay away. Any other place like this would be overcrowded, but this is a wonderful spot. My favourite temple in the area by far.

This place has been influenced by Thai temple architecture and Chinese temple architecture but they are not well blended together. Overall it therefore looks out of place to me. The seaside scene is certainly beautiful, but that's all I think it's worthwhile. My tip is to watch out for a scam. I saw a Thai monk asked people to test his power by pouring an strong acid that can burn his skin to his skin. And then sell some type of amulet.

Another tip is to wear proper walking shoes, so you can properly explore this mountain side and seaside temple.

Just south of Suan Son Beach on the other side of a small fishing village You find this special buddhist temple.
Not many tourists find/visit this place.
There are several caves and temples and on top of the hill a big Buddha statue overlooking the bay.
Make the stroll uphill! A stunning view make it well worth the struggle.
Several restaurants in the surroundings serving excellent seafood.
In the neighborhood there is a small lake where You can fish.

If you feel like escaping Hua-Hin relatively "busy" city centre, this is the place where to go, just 12km south of hua-hin. Directions are well described in the review of Brigit B.
The Wat has a mixed influence of Thai Buddhism and Chinese cultures, and probably for this reason attracts sometimes a bus of (local) tourists over weekends.
Walk all the way up the hill to the "big Buddha"
The views on the fishing village, the sea and the Suan Son Beach (north of Kao Tao village) are just amazing. Monks taking care of the place look to live in a kind of paradise.
After visiting the pagodas, you can continue to Sai Noi Beach, on the other side of the hill where you can find one of the most secluded beaches of Thailand. As a consequence, It has its advantage and inconvenient: On a non busy day, it's just amazing, but, on other days or after a sea storm or high tide, the beach is covered by garbage stuffs and the locals or the municipality have not yet understood that they play with fire: Tourists will not visit this charming place if it's not kept CLEAN by somebody! The same comment is also valid for the surrounding area where you can easily fill a full big bag of undesirable objects, plastics, bottles, lunch boxes... collected along the street going to this beach. Really a pity!
