About
The grounds of the historic Somerset Cemetery, dating to the early 1800s, are open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. However, since the office has a staff of one, it's helpful to call before you stop in for a visit, just to make sure someone will be there to assist you. Walkers, joggers, stroller-pushers, history lovers, nature lovers, art enthusiasts, photography buffs, motorists, groups, etc., are more than welcome!

When I was in high school I took sociology under Mrs Nancy Withers. We had a 6 week session on death education. To make a long story short Mr Morris(coroner at the time) had MANY stories to tell about people being buried alive in this cemetery. RIP Mrs Withers and Mr Morris.

Somerset Cemetery is very well maintained and groomed, making it a great place to enjoy a nice stroll through the grounds. I often have conversations with the manager, it's evident she takes her job seriously and she thoroughly enjoys it as well. There are many old monuments in the cemetery, this place is full of history. One could spend hours just reading the headstones & researching some of the famous people laid to rest there.

Typical city cemetery, full of grave markers and bodies, but you have to stay out during the night, that is when the zombies come out..

Thank you for your great review, but I think it was probably meant for SomerSplash Water Park rather than for the Somerset Cemetery!

A stroll through the Somerset Cemetery is both relaxing and informative, even if you don't have family buried there. It's well kept and always looks beautiful - plus you'll be surprised by some the names you'll find on the old tombstones. If you're lucky, you'll be there for one of the special events held there - amazing!

Is in the process of being restored. Lots of driving paths to provide easy access. Google this historic cemetery to find more restoration information.

Went to visit family site.... All around was dirty and unkept. Not impressed. My families money did not get spent well. Didn't see a groundskeeper. One of the things promised.

I'm sorry you feel that way. If you'll let me know which area your relative is in, I will check on it and clean up anything that's out of place. I am the manager of the cemetery, and work at the cemetery full time.. You're welcome to come by the office or call any time. Since the City of Somerset took over the cemetery four years ago, several people have noted that it is being maintained better than it ever was in the past, and I'm sorry you don't feel the same way. Let me know what I can do to help, and I'll be glad to do it.

This is a beautiful cemetery, especially in the spring. There is a wealth of history literally buried here, Bluegrass musicians, the city's leaders, and everyday people that made Somerset great. Every encounter I have ever had with the staff has been beyond reproach and professional.

Hello! I’m the manager of the cemetery. You can leave your question here, or if you’d rather contact me a different way, you can call 606-679-3473. I also have an email address, but this website doesn’t allow me to put that link here! The cemetery is also on Facebook if you’d like to leave a message there.
