My 6-year old daughter and I spent a long weekend at the cabins and we had a wonderful time. They are very clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. We also booked a guided climb with them and it was amazing. Erik was patient and challenged both of us. We are hoping to come back later this summer for another chance to climb.

We stayed in one of the A-frame cabins that is on top of the property. Though there were other cabins all in a row, we felt like we had a lot of privacy. This cabin is comfortable for up to 4 people. The best part is that it is in the middle of the Red River Gorge area and at the door of the Natural Bridge State Resort.
Only problem is they only have a stove top and mini fridge, so not great for longer stays or cooking other than 2 burner type.
We did not take advantage of the guided tours or the trails on the property or the yoga that was provided, but we will definitely be returning.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for sharing your experience and being wonderful guests. Don't forget the gas grill :-) We actually had someone cook an apple pie last Thanksgiving on the grill. It was pretty impressive! We hope to see you again sometime in the future.

My boyfriend and I did a Gym to Outdoor class with RRO. It was great-- everything we could've asked for. The guides with us, Chris and Dan, taught us everything we needed to know, and then some. I always felt very safe, and they were extremely helpful if I had any questions (which, of course, I did). It was also great that the walls we were climbing were on private property, so there weren't a bunch of people waiting to get on the routes while we were climbing. It was an awesome experience, and the people were great. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

We just spent 6 nights in the Whip-Poor-Will A-frame cabin at RRO. What a cool cabin - we all loved it and it worked out perfectly for our family of 4. The kids stayed in the bedroom downstairs and my husband and I stayed in the loft. The property also had some nice trails and good exploring - the kids found a cool salamander up by the little pond.
This was our first time to the Red River Gorge area. There was so much for us to do! Red River Gorge has some beautiful hiking trails with amazing views and rock formations. Natural Bridge State Park was also beautiful. Recommend doing a day canoe/kayak trip down the Red River. Craig helped us arrange the canoe trip which was great. We also tried ziplining and checked out the Kentucky Reptile Zoo. Next time maybe we will try some rock climbing!

This adventure made the memory for our vacation. We just arrived home from Slade, Kentucky which is only six hours from St. Louis and one hour south of Lexington. We have been getting away with our three teenagers over Thanksgiving weekend for the last few years.

We have bouldered before, but never had gear on except for an indoor climbing wall. After a short lesson,My husband and myself finished the first three sections of the wall. We are not in shape. It was not hard, but it was exciting being that high up and "learning the ropes". My three kids finished the next two sections which required more upper body strength. They loved it. If we had done this the first day, I think we would have returned to try a guided trip and clinic on climbing. 35.00 was worth it.
I recommend this for an outdoor kind of family who like to expose their kids to all things. They must be at least ten years old and follow directions well. We stayed at a cabin called Sunset Falls which had a great view.

We stayed at one of the cabins at the top of the property. Most importantly, it was clean, which is a big deal. However, many other issues made it below average. The bed was so uncomfortable, way too soft; the microwave didn’t work properly, nor could you even see the touch pad because the lighting in the room was horrible; there were negative little signs in many places around the cabin telling you not to do certain things which were so annoying - how about having just one sheet of information listing all of these in a much more positive way; if you don’t take your trash down to the dumpster when you check out, you will be charged - this wouldn’t be a big deal if the price of the cabin was cheaper, but for $125 per night?? The pleather sofa was sooo uncomfortable but was the only option for relaxing after long days of hiking. The only outside seating was a picnic table - not the best for relaxing after hiking. The “shared” fire pit would have been nice, but one of the guests felt that it was his fire pit only because he bought the wood for it. Very uncomfortable situation, so we left. The best option for lodging at RRG is camping.

Thanks for the review. Let me address some of your issues. Our beds have a 4 Lb / square inch deluxe memory foam topper, which makes them soft. Most people comment on how well they sleep in our beds because they are so comfortable. I have heard multiple times “It is like sleeping on a cloud.” I am guessing that you are used to a hard bed. If you would have let us know the microwave was not working properly, we would have gladly replaced it. However, you did not reach out to us at all during your stay. Thank you for now bringing it to my attention. I am not sure why are you taking our little signs so personally or feel that they are negative. Please have a little compassion and realize that these are issues we had to deal with on a regular basis. It is not fun to have to clear out a sewer line on a weekly basis because someone put in feminine hygiene products, diapers, excessive toilet paper, etc. We have found that since we put up the signs, the incidences are down. We once tried to address these things in our welcome letter, but it seemed that people were not reading it…but thank you for the suggestion. We ask people to be responsible for their own garbage and we provide a dumpster. This is common for cabin rentals. We charge a $10 fee if there is excessive garbage left in the cabin and we must remove it. $125/night is our peak season weekend rate. We do not charge extra for cleaning or booking fees. This is the first complaint I have ever heard about the couch. They are only a couple of years old and in great condition. There are foldable chairs in a bin down by the fire pit area if you are looking for something more than a picnic table. There is also over 4 miles of trails on the property, so you can find a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy. If a guest was making you feel “very uncomfortable” at the shared fire pit area you could have reached out to us. We would have come up to the cabins to address the situation. As we state multiple times, including on our welcome letter when you check in, we live on the property and are available 24/7 if you happen to need anything. Possibly you did not read that letter. We try to provide firewood in the bin next to the firepit; no one has sole rights to the firepit. This is also the first time I have ever head of this being an issue. Most people comment on how fun it was to meet other people and share stories of adventure in the Red River Gorge. I would suggest, in the future, if you are staying somewhere and are unhappy with the situation, contact the owners/managers at that time and let them know. I am sure they will attempt to remedy the situation for you. It is unfortunate that instead of reaching out to us personally, you felt you had to write a bad review of your subjective experience. We are a small locally owned and operated family business and try our best to offer our guests a wonderful travel experience. I still don’t even know who you are, as you are masked behind your Local50 profile. Best of luck to you on your future travel experiences.

I stayed in the Wagon Wheel cabin with friends this weekend. We enjoyed the cabin a lot. The cabin was clean with fresh towels and sheets on the beds when we arrived. The first night we were there it rained hard so I was grateful to be in that dry, cozy cabin!

The wagon wheel is the last cabin in a row of cabins. We enjoyed being at the end but it was very quiet all weekend and we were never disturbed. This cabin is also next to the business yurt with wifi which was convenient when we wanted to check email.

The only thing I would suggest for improvement is placing some hooks on the walls in the bedrooms. We would have appreciated a place to hang a shirt etc while living out of suitcases.

Thank you for a comfortable weekend in the wagon wheel!

We had a lovely time staying in a cabin down at the Gorge. The cabin kept us warm and dry from a storm that rolled in but other than that day it was beautiful outside and the hikes were rewarding. Would recommend to friends and family.

Endless routes for all levels of experience, but I would highly recommend RRO to anyone with little-to-no outdoor climbing experience looking to get started outdoors. Very knowledgeable, patient, and friendly staff!

A group of us wanted to climb at Torrent Falls over Thanksgiving, so we decided to rent a cabin through Red River Outdoors. We reserved the Windy Corner cabin (suitable for 6, but we added a 7th person). The cabin included a full bathroom, a bedroom with a queen bed, 2 queen beds in the loft, and the couch was a futon (for the 7th person). The kitchen included a toaster, coffee pot, small electric stove, fridge, and all the utensils and other items we needed.

There were a couple of downfalls to the cabin:
*It wasn't very clean - the ceiling fan probably had about 2 inches or more of dust caked on the blades. Dust was everywhere. Lots of dirt and crumbs and nastiness under the futon.
*Neither of the portable fans worked
*Cabin was extremely chilly! It was less than 30 degrees outside when we arrived. The cabin is equipped with a small gas heater and a space heater. We had both running and even after 12 hours, it was still barely hitting 48-50 degrees in the cabin.

Pros:
*Amy is awesome and works with you in every way. When we complained about the cold cabin, she brought us another space heater, which definitely helped.
*Climbing was only 5 minutes away
*Plenty of hot water for showers and doing dishes

Red River Outdoors is under new ownership. We take great pride in making sure that the cabins are thoroughly cleaned. The dust and debris situation is no longer an issue. Both portable floor fans and air conditioner work. Due to the nature of the cabin, it is challenging to heat it when it gets cold outside (below 30). The cabins are seasonal and not properly insulated for below freezing temps.
