We had a party of 8, and did the Crystal Bottom kayaking tour & one person bravely tried a paddleboard . The kayaks and the paddle boards were all very wide, and extremely hard to tip over. None even had a close call. t
I think our guide Evan said only two people fell in the water this whole year. Thats amazing concidering how many people kayak there every year! We have kayaked many places, this was the most memorable one for sure! The clear bottom kayak was amazing! I love how the kayaks have colored glow lights as well., that allow to see the entire bottom at all times. They also have HUGE rainbow trout that swim around ,and sometimes the biggest ones will bump your boat! I will tell yall beforehand that they do not allow fishing in the mine.. Lol.. We were there on New Years eve, & got to see the very rare, littlest ,cutest, bats that inhabite the mine. There are also salamanders in there, but not really this time of the year.
I loved how knowledgeable our guide, Evan was. He knows all the history about the mine, and answered all our questions! He showed us the different rocksin there, and ones actually had speckles that glowed!! It was so cool, figuratively and literally! It's like 55 degrees in inside. No wind or currents.
I recommend buying their neoprene foot booties to help keep your feet warm and dry. You are NOT allowed at wear shoes in the clear bottom kayaks, and regular socks will likely get wet from the water that comes off the paddles.. We are planning a trip in the spring too. Book in advance !!! The tours get booked pretty fast. I booked 25 days in advance.

This is one of the most fun & unique things I’ve ever done! I highly recommend the Deluxe Crystal Kayak tour at The Gorge Underground near Natural Bridge State Park in KY! The clear kayaks & LED glow lights really help you see the water, cavern & fish as you’re moving along. Kyle & Gabe (our guides) were so awesome too! Gabe really helped out this novice kayaker & took great care to make sure I was enjoying myself & safe! They made our trip so much fun! I can’t go without mentioning Crystal at the check in counter! She was so friendly & helpful to me as I checked in & asked questions! She is a true treasure to see when you come in that front door! They book up extremely fast (and now I know why) so if you’re thinking about doing this, book it! You will enjoy every minute!

1st thing is the water is glass smooth and the kayaking is not strenuous at all, in fact it’s very casual. Some comfort with a kayak is handy, but not required. The release makes it very scary, but it is not. It’s an old limestone quarry cave with large pillars throughout creating trails thru the underground lake. Occasional “waterfalls” coming from above, lights in portions of the water & trails, and some areas dark. The light on your helmet illuminates well, plus the boats all have colored lights. It makes an unforgettable experience. Our guides Kyle & Dustin kept a close eye on us and had stories to tell about the cave all through the trip.
We did the deluxe tour. It starts with a short walk into the cave entrance and down to the dock at the underground lake, where you board your kayak and start your adventure. Wool socks are preferred as the water is 40° and your feet can get cold. They rent neoprene boots so your socks stay dry. The only water in your kayak would be from dripping off your paddle. Unlikely anyone falls in, but of course it’s kayaking so anything could happen.
The only disappointment is some of us were thinking cave, like stalactites and all. This is. It that kind of cave. I recommend as an experience you should try. Good for kids and adults alike.

The Crystal Kayak tour was truly unique. The kayaks are easy to maneuver in the wide caves, and the guides do a great job keeping things moving while not rushing anyone through the experience. The glass bottom boats and LED lights create a surreal combination. I enjoyed the knowledge the tour guides shared and learning about the creation of the caves, up to and including the introduction of the fish :) Do pay attention to the warnings about temperatures - I could have added another layer and recommend the rental socks, they're worth the small charge.

What a fun adventure. The guides were awesome. The gear was well cared for and everything felt very safe. We came to the area specifically for this and it was so worth it. One tip is that it is colder than you may think it that cave so warm socks (no shoes allowed) and warm clothes are a must. Enjoy!

If you enjoy kayaking and exploring this is a great use of an hour and a half. Our guide Walker and photographer Andrew were great. They were personable and full of information about the mine. The photos that were taken were very clear and worth the money. Wear warm clothing, cool temps in the mine, and I highly recommend wool or neoprene socks. The water is around 42 degrees so the water and clear kayaking will provide a chill.

Wonderful! Mason and Mackenzie were our guides. Mason was very knowledgeable about the cave and it's history. He didn't talk the whole time which was nice. Mackenzie got a lot of really great pictures. Both guides made sure everyone stayed safe and dry! I loved that the day before our excursion we got a link via text with directions. Very helpful. I definitely recommend paying the $2 for the socks because it gets cold in there.

From the start, the experience was really good. When we checked in, we were given good advice on the best clothes/gear to wear for the excursion and staff was friendly. Our guides, Evan and Kyle, were excellent at herding cats (kayakers in the dark) while being informative and engaging.
For the trip itself, I don't know why they would offer anything other than the clear acrylic kayaks. The water is so clear, I feel like a regular boat would just take away from the 360 experience of the clear boats. As people that are used to running kayaks in rivers, this was more than easy and someone with no experience should have no issues. The whole thing was peaceful, beautiful, and even after an hour and a half, it seemed like it was over way too soon. I'd be happy to paddle around down there all day.

We had planned to go on this little trip all summer and finally did it today, two days before school starts for our eight-year-old grandson. We took him to the kayaking which he said was the best of everything, Miguel‘s for pizza, the sky lift and then walked to natural bridge and back down. he said it was the best day of his life, the best day, the best week, the best month, the best year. Need to say more? I will also say we really liked our guide, Riley. Even if two or five or 10 people asked him the same question someone else had asked, he answered it as though it was the first time he had heard that question very patient!

My son and I went on the crystal kayak tour. It was his first time riding in a kayak on his own. We both had a great time! We had two guides, Zach and another gentleman whose name I forgot. They were both very helpful and informative during the tour! It is cool in the mine, so bringing warmer layers could make it more comfortable. I like it cool, so I was fine with shorts and a T-shirt, but most brought a hoodie. I also rented the neoprene socks and waterproof phone case, which was a good choice because the socks kept my feet warm and dry and I was able to take pictures without worrying about damaging my phone. They only take a couple pictures with their photo package, so if pictures are important to you, I recommend taking your own. Just make sure to have a good phone/camera that works in low light. Ultimately I would highly recommend this kayak tour! My son (age 10) and I did a lot of fun things on this trip, but he said the crystal kayak tour was his favorite!

What If I bring my own kayak? Do you have different pricing options? Or this location is just reserved for private tours?
Written June 23, 2022
There are public access points if you have your own boat but I didn’t see any prices just for providing transportation.
