Great lake for all activities. Its very clean and in areas without a lot of boat traffic, its crystal clear. The beach within Zilpo campground and the boat launch at this location were nice. We kayaked on the lake and had a great time. There's plenty of spots to pull off, get out and swim. The lake was plenty large enough to feel like there was plenty of space to kayak or canoe even with boating, tubing, wave runners, house boats, etc. on a holiday weekend.

The lake offers all sorts of entertainment. Rent a pontoon or a houseboat. Great fishing and fishing guides are available. Great camping and swimming sites are readily available. Frisbee golf and picnic area's are free at the dam. Walmart and Kroger's within ten minutes.

In the summer, we spend the weekends at "our" lake. Avid boaters and campers, this is living at its finest for us. Twin Knobs is a clean, quiet campground. Multiple camping loops, most have privacy overgrowth to give you the secluded feeling. Along 801 South, you can find several cabins to rent as well as small grocery, gas and restaurants. POPS BBQ is awesome.
The lake is so clear, and very clean. The marina is large, and the staff very helpful. Pontoons, houseboats, and fishing boats are available, best to reserve ahead in season.
My favorite time of day is sunset. Cave Run Lake likes to strut its stuff at days end. The magnificent parade of color across the sky at the dam end, is not to be missed.

The Lake itself is beautiful. The beach however is another story. When I was a kid Cave Run Lake beach was the best beach in KY. Now 75% of the beach is overrun with grass and weeds. The swim area has greatly diminished over the years as well. The whole cove area used to be roped off for swimming, now maybe half is available to swim. The sign says no lifeguard on duty however the beach is patrolled by power hungry overweight workers on golf carts that want to ruin your relaxing beach experience. Don't recommend. The beach has so much potential and they are letting it go to waste. The greatest waste was the cost of $10 to get in.

Took my 4 year old to play paid $10 to have a beach that was packed with no place to swim and to be told...Sorry you need to get out of the water your not allowed to swim here your to close to the edge of the ropes. Some guy in his fancy golf car had my daughter crying...screw this place.

I discovered Cave Run Lake recently on my business trip to Somerset. Absolutely gorgeous surroundings with great fishing. I found a local guide and stayed for two days of fishing. We caught few huge Musky’s just like that. If you’re into fishing I highly recommend you give it a try here at Cave Run. One of the best lakes I’ve ever fished

the beach was full of goose poop...you couldn't swim unless you accessed the beach by a campground and pay $7 a piece to swim

The lake was absolutely beautiful. No houses on the lake just nature and fish. We went wally fishing with a guide in the rain. Loved every minute if it. I would recommend renting a cabin getting a guide and cast 10,000 times to catch walley.

Take a great trip down the Licking in a kayak or canoe. Put in at the spillway and you can take out any number of locations depending on your stamina, time and rate of water flow. Always check before going on flowage rate. Beautiful river with very short shuttle times.

I live only minutes from Cave Run Lake. When you plan a trip to Morehead, you must include a stop at Cave Run. On your way out to the lake, make your first stop (during the warmer months) at the Cave Run Fish Hatchery. There is a huge pool where there are several different types of fish common to the lake. You can lean over the pool, and watch the fish swim around. Always a hit with kids. Taking a drive over the spillway will show you tons of lake beauty. After you cross, you can visit a popular swimming area, or find some interesting trials to hike. (Including Sheltowee Trace). Another neat area to visit, is what's known locally as the spillway. This is were the Army Corp of engineers will slowly let water out of the lake. During a heavy rain season, the water is shooting out from under the spillway so quickly, it's almost scary to watch! Camping at Cave Run is top notch. The staff at the campground is very friendly, and helpful. The sites are well maintained, and perfectly spaced for privacy. I could go on, and on. But, if you are in Morehead...definitely stop at the lake!
