Sample Some Recently Released High-Priced Products
We had a tour and a tasting recently. Since it's at a downtown location, it is not a tour which includes seeing operations up front at full scale and with visits to cask storage buildings. The guide's delivery during the tasting was somewhat distracting as he paced from one side of the bar to the other to address the members of our tour group. However, he was very knowledgeable and had a sense of humor. There is a small store area. The tasting included at least one three-figure-priced recently released product of the company.

Traditional Tasting and Tour - 17$
We came as a few bourbon novices - and not big bourbon fans. The tour was interesting, the guide did a good job. My friend preferred this to Old Forester, but I think I liked the other one a little more. The movie in the beginning is just terrible. What a script… thankfully it didn’t last too long. Overall we enjoyed it and it was only 17$/person with tax for the Traditional Tasting and Tour (about an hour). My only request would be that they include a glass of water with the tasting. It was kind of rough as a nonbourbon person without it.

A+ for Historical Info; Too Many Videos
First off, I enjoy whiskey. My wife does not. Both of us were present on this tour. The tour starts off sitting in a small theater to watch a really cheesy video taking place in the 1700s. One of which is Evan Williams. The video runs 5-10 minutes, before we move into another room where we stand and watch another video. Ugh! Next room....another video! Seriously?! After the videos were done, the tour started to get enjoyable! Our tour guide did a great job of explaining some Louisville history. This was not covered by many other distilleries, so this was good information! He also spoke about how bourbon is made and what characteristics are required for something to be considered a bourbon (this gets really repetitive after you've seen a few distilleries). My favorite part of the experience was going upstairs and seeing a recreation of Whiskey Row during prohibition. The prohibition talk was also very interesting. Finally, we moved on to the tasting room and got to sample some Evan Williams products. These were some of my least favorite bourbons I tasted during our trip, but I seemed to be in the majority. They did have a 12 year Evan Williams at ~100 proof which was for sale in the gift shop for $130. Many of the guys on our tour seemed to be enthralled with it!

    Nice bar!
My grandfather's name was Evan Williams, so we had to stop in here on our recent visit to Louisville. The tours had been all sold out, but we were able to go upstairs to the bar and we enjoyed a tasty old fashioned and a bourbon flight. They have several different flights and I chose the entry-level one to compare the regular offerings, but they have flights with several allocated products (Evan Williams and other Heaven Hill products), so it's definitely a great way to try them since bottles are impossible to find. The entry flight was pretty good and it was nice to compare the bourbons to see how they differed. We'll definitely be back to take the tour on our next trip!

    Unique tour
The tour was different than the others we had attended. It was filmed and it felt like we were part of history. Two women were our hostesses and were funny and enthusiastic about their jobs. We were glad that they made sure that all participants were required to wear masks indoors. The tasting was held in a bar type atmosphere, which was nice. A good time was had by our small group.

Premium tastes with a bit of theater
We did the speakeasy tour/tasting which was a unique way to learn more of the history of prohibition with our bartender 'in character'. Surprisingly, the bourbon selection was not limited to Evan Williams and expanded to some very nice selections including hard-to-find premium bottles of Elijah Craig and Henry McKenna. We even had the opportunity to buy these bottles that are hard to find anywhere else.

I suppose ONE distillery -type experience might be interesting g
The world is popping with distillery “experiences”; I’ve seen the Heineken one in Amsterdam which was huge and in an original distillery. But even that one felt like a creative overreach. Most brands recreate the distillery “experience” as this one does. Their key to survival is the gift shop! So be sure to book the experience for a brand you love so you buy merch you’ll enjoy. Add this to your list, but don’t miss the very nearby Mohammed Ali Center. Better bet for the whole family.

A great stop on the Kentucky bourbon trail!
Our guide Sheryll did an excellent job of sharing the history and impact of Evan Williams on the city of Louisville. It was so interesting to learn the journey of one of the oldest bourbon brands around. They have a fun and interactive tour that ends with a delicious tasting.

    Built for tourists
This was a fun tour but was designed for tourists. There are large interactive movie screens, staged storefronts, etc. The tasting room was fun and the tour guide was knowledgeable. It’s a very different experience from Buffalo Trace, Maker’s, etc. We enjoyed it though. However, next time will likely opt to tour Heaven Hill.

    Deeply disappointed
My girlfriends and I were on a Black history tour through several states and Louisville was our first stop from Maryland. This tour was billed as "an African American experience " in bourbon. Aside from our bartender being black he seemed reticent to discuss the role of African Americans in the history of bourbon despite the fact that he was representing a historical character. In addition, when specifically asked about the role of Black's he said he was saving my question until the end and then responded in a whisper so only we (who happened to be Black) could hear him. We were deeply disappointed.

The Evan Williams experience is in a historic "Whiskey row" building. If you haven’t been to the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience on Main Street yet, you are missing out! In addition to the traditional tour, they offer a “Speakeasy Tour” of the basement speakeasy.

In order to gain access to the speakeasy, you must first guess the secret code correctly. Only then will the door attendant unlock the heavy steel vault door to let you inside. The room you enter contains a beautiful wraparound cherry bar area. Once you’re seated at the bar, you will get to try Larceny, Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond, and Evan Williams 23-year bourbons.

After the tour, tasting, and history lesson, you will be directed to the gift shop. Worth the time to visit.

Visited today with a group of 6 adults. Bob was our awesome and knowledgeable tour guide. At first, we were not sure what to expect being in that building but we were more than pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend it and plan to go back and visit once other tours are open/available.

Had a great time at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience during a recent weekend trip to Louisville. Evan Williams makes the most of what I thought would be a cramped space on the main bourbon drag in Louisville. I walked away with a good perspective on Louisville’s great bourbon history. Although the Evan Williams portrait looks suspiciously like the actor in the filmed bits on the tour, the effect overall is informative, fun and you get to try some amazing bourbon while led by a knowledgable guide in a historic location. Recommended.
