I brought tickets several days in advance for the tour. We arrived a bit early, and a lady let us know that the gentleman who was doing the tour would be out in a minute for us. We looked that the displays they had in the visitor's center and sure enough he came to collect us. Told us about the house and showed us a couple of the bricks that had fingerprints from the enslaved who built the house. Then took us in the house he said that at some point the house had flooded (I cant remember the year) showed up in the house how high the water got. He gave us a lot of info about the house, and I enjoyed the tour. They have plenty of free parking and they allow you to take photos, the visitors center has bathrooms and everyone we met was very welcoming and friendly.

This site is smaller than I thought it would be but it was no less interesting. They got us in even though we were quite early which was nice. The docent was very informative. It was a nice contrast to the usually opulent homes you see in historical homes. If you like history a good stop.

Riverside provides a real in depth look at Kentucky life in the mid 1800's though the farm owned by the Farnsley and then the Moreman families. The home and the accompanying facilities are great to see but the real treasure was the tour. We have been on tours of every description all over the world but there were none better than the guided tour we received at Riverside. Thank you Renee for bringing these Kentucky families to life for us.

This was not your normal visit to a historic site. Actually this was about a beautifully done documentary of the Ohio River. The history of the river and the struggles protecting this vast waterway from pollution, over commercialization and the well meaning directives of people is a challenge we must reckon with. Considering this was a free event no one should have missed this breathtaking and beautifully filmed documentary.

Tonight we were treated to a lecture by Joe McGill who is involved in the slave dwelling project. Joe has slept in approximately 150 slave dwellings in 12 years. And not all of them are in the south. These are the people whose story yearns to be told. Those people who built the mansions, farmed the land and were bought and sold into slavery. The history of America is incomplete without their story. Check back with the Farnsley-Moreman Landing for more informative and interesting events to come.
