We enjoy visiting historic homes and learning about the people who lived in them. This destination was a treat. Although we had never heard of the two families who had lived in the home long ago, we left with an appreciation of their contributions to the community. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from the gracious, enthusiastic historian who led our tour. Thank you!

I believe this was the first event presented there since before Covid. I happened to see a plug on Facebook for a Victorian fashion show there and was intrigued. Why not spend an afternoon learning about Victorian fashions and how it related to the Farnsley-Moreman families e we go once lived there? Not only did I learn something new but I was invited to also tour the house along with the other guests. Our docent was quite enthusiastic about the history of the house and property. Most people are more familiar with Farmington and Locust Grove since those are located in the toney east end of Louisville. This site has as much to offer as either of those two plus a scenic view of the Ohio River. Truly this is a bit of a hidden gem.

It is a nice 1-2 hour stop. Definitely worth the small entrance fee. The 1 hour tour is guided and provides some history on river traffic and the homes/farms which relied on it.

There are picnic tables, a trail which goes into town, & an event space.

Riverside provides a real in depth look at Kentucky life in the mid 1800's though the farm owned by the Farnsley and then the Moreman families. The home and the accompanying facilities are great to see but the real treasure was the tour. We have been on tours of every description all over the world but there were none better than the guided tour we received at Riverside. Thank you Renee for bringing these Kentucky families to life for us.

Tonight we were treated to a lecture by Joe McGill who is involved in the slave dwelling project. Joe has slept in approximately 150 slave dwellings in 12 years. And not all of them are in the south. These are the people whose story yearns to be told. Those people who built the mansions, farmed the land and were bought and sold into slavery. The history of America is incomplete without their story. Check back with the Farnsley-Moreman Landing for more informative and interesting events to come.
