We were in Louisville for a last camping trip of the year. As we were coming out of the Slugger Museum I spotted an interesting statue across the street. Crossing the street for a better view I spotted the Sons of the American Revolution. What?? I am into geneology and there is a Revolutionary Library!! We went inside and were greeted by a very friendly lady who suggested I speak to a librarian. He explained all about the books that were in the library and showed me the volumes that would possibly have info about my relatives. He gave me so much information about other sites to search online. It was so great!! If I had more time, I definitely would have stayed all day. I recommend to this library to anyone interested in history.

My wife took me here as a birthday surprise to research family that I had suspected being involved in the American Revolution. The people that work here are fantastic and were extremely helpful in pointing me in the right direction and showing me how to use the genealogy searches they have on the computer. The “Library” they have is VERY impressive and any information they have about family heritage and genealogy is the best I’ve ever seen. To be honest, I had NO IDEA this place existed and is 45 minutes from my house! I will be back soon to do more research and fill out the forms associated with my family history to prove that my 7th Great Uncle was in fact a 2nd Lieutenant in the American Revolution. I recommend this place to ANYONE who is serious about their family heritage and love to do historical research. I could spend hours and hours in this place!

Great visit and they have an outstanding library for American Revolution Research. Amazing efforts are being made in the works to develop into a premier museum. This will be a another crowd draw for history bluffs and an economic boost to downtown Louisville.

In Louisville for the first time and happened upon this place. It was great! My husband knew he had a relative that was an AR veteran but it was so interesting to see it confirmed in the searches. The staff there were so helpful and friendly. You can tell that they really have a passion for genealogy and love to share it. We never knew the SAR existed and after our visit, my husband is going to start the application process to become a member. Definitely a must see for anyone with an interest in genealogy or history.

At the end of a business conference yesterday I had several hours in the afternoon to look around before returning home. I thought I'd try the SAR Library and skip the science and baseball museums, and I discovered a great resource well worth the time. By the end of a busy 3.5 hours I was just getting started on great leads because so many possible avenues of search were right there for me, and I was aided by neat suggestions from Joe and Brian. When they weren't nearby, other staff members were sure to ask if I had any questions when they walked by - all in all, a very helpful, knowledgeable staff. There is a wide range of sources accessible from the library online and bound volumes on the shelves. I have enough to complete a chapter application now. I had given up on that idea more than a decade ago because I could not provide one or two key details, and online searches back then were not turning up what I needed. Thank you!

Anyone who's researching their family history should spend time here. I was researching Patriots of the American Revolution. Joe, was super helpful and I was able to learn from a genealogist about the membership application process. Beautiful facility

Awesome resource, a hidden jewel in finding family history from our nation beginning. So enjoyed meeting the helpful staff and seeing early American artifacts. They provided tips on researching and documenting information. Don't miss the opportunity to discover your family history during the birth of the USA. Conveniently located on Main St near many other museums.

I could only spend a short time but it was well worth the 5 hour drive to get here. This place, and the organization it represents, is a national treasure . Great visit; impressive facility and artifacts; friendly and helpful staff. My special thanks to Head Research Librarian Joe Hardisty for his informative overview and insight. I'll be back...

I only had a few hours to spend here, but it was so worth my time. I really think the staff are amazing and helpful. The collections are sure to have something you may need, just a great location, easy local access, and an exceptional amount of data to access.
