Woke up early and decided to run through this neighborhood. The houses are amazing, the real gas lanterns lining the street are incredible. Made me want to move to Louisville.

This is obviously a neighborhood which was once grand, then at some point went through a downturn, and now is being revitalized. I enjoyed walking around to see many of the mansions which have been refurbished.

Was raining the weekend we were in Louisville, no umbrellas, so could only drive thru the area. Love the old construction and wished we could have done a walking tour. If this is your thing don't pass it up.

Walked the neighborhood early on a Sunday morning. An interesting stroll through the past, and no admission charge.

This is a walking tour of Old Louisville run by David Domine. It is the one that leaves from 4th and Omsby and goes from March to November. David actually ran our tour and was delightful and informative. He has lived in Lville for many...More

We did not take the official walking tour, but briefly walked around before we headed out for lunch. The homes are gorgeous, the fountain a great photo op, and we got to see the pink building, which was formerly a "gentlemen's club" back in the...More

It was out 24th wedding anniversary and I planned this whole trip around her. This was the first stop and made everything else, such as the tour of Conrad/Caldwell Castle, even better. Got in the summer but the weather cooperated with us during our weekend...More

Visiting Old Louisville was part of the Trolly Ride we took. I don't think I would go back just to walk around. Nice houses, but just take the trolly and you will see enough... unless you love old houses.

My Old KY Dinner Train (1 Reply)
The Bardstown forum doesn't seem to get much action, so I thought I would post this question here. Has anyone taken the My Old Kentucky Dinner Train during a Murder Mystery? My husband and I are considering doing it for our anniversary, but it is relatively expensive ($98 a piece) and don't want to waste our money if it is not worth it. Thanks!

Two threads regarding My Old KY Dinner Train from the local food forum. Unless I missed, I didn't really see any mention of the Murder Mystery. Mostly just comments on the food and the actual train experience. http://forums.louisvillehotbytes.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7565&p=75083&hilit=kentucky+dinner+train http://forums.louisvillehotbytes.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7850&p=77338&hilit=dinner+train#p77338

Afternoon and evening in Louisville, where to stay & to eat? (4 Replies)
I'm trying to gather some info on where to stay and to eat in Louisville. I read Old Louisville is a nice area to stroll along and St. James Court has gaslamps. Any suggetions on more places to see? Should be nice to walk around. Also suggestions for where to eat appreciated. Will have a rental car, and are wondering where is the best place to stay. Hotel or B&B - doesn't matter, parking a must (as we will have rental car). Nothing luxurious. Reasonable, clean, well located, safe. Will...More

The b&b's in Old Louisville get great reviews. good for sightseeing all the Victorian mansions. Main & Market streets have many pubs/restaurants/shops, as does Bardstown Rd & Frankfort Ave. Visit Cave Hill Cemetery, Cherokee Park, Waterfront Park, walk across the Big 4 bridge to Indiana. Captain Quarters on River Road is a nice restaurant to sit out on patio.

Nutown and Old Louisville accomodations (5 Replies)
My daughter and I will be in Louisville the first weekend in August. We want to be close to both Nutown and Shakespeare in the park. Looking for suggestions for accommodations in the low $100 range. We are open to hotels, AirBNB, or bed and breakfasts. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you.

I think maybe you mean NuLu, which is the West Market Street area of Louisville. Honestly, like Mary said, Old Louisville has many air bnb options as well as Bnbs In Victorian style mansions which are pricier. If you stayed downtown, an Uber ride would be about $7 tops. I have had good success on Priceline bidding for a four star hotel in Louisville from $75-100. Don’t pick fewer stars or you’ll get S Indiana. Hotwire also has deals on downtown hotels. You’ll almost always get the Marriott or...More
