For those questioning if the $200 price tag is worth it, the answer is absolutely yes! My cousin and I booked the last couple spots for the day we went because most of the bourbon distilleries we no longer accepting reservations for tours or tastings on that day…most were booking several weeks out for weekend dates. This tour had plenty of nearby, upcoming weekend dates available and gave us the opportunity to get into three distilleries with a facilities tour and tasting, plus lunch at this amazing spot in Danville, KY.
This tour is perfect for bourbon lovers like us and even folks who are new to bourbon. The tour guide, Col. Ron, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. He made the 1hr+ drives between distilleries feel like a short drive, keeping us entertained with history, fun facts, and stories about KY, the bourbon industry, and horse racing.
You really can’t beat the price for what you get: a DD to three different distilleries across KY and an amazing lunch. If you try to price that out and book individual tours yourself, you’ll definitely pay $200 or more and there’s no guarantee you’ll get a tour/tasting. This was a great way to hit up some amazing distilleries and experience the bourbon trail safely.

Great experience! We did a bus tour of the Very Old Barton, Heaven Hill and Bardstown Bourbon Company. Holly was our guide and she was phenomenal. In addition to telling us all about the distilleries and the area itself, she managed to keep 21 day drinking adults of all ages happy, engaged and safe. The events noted in the description happened as expected (tours, tastings and meals) and we were on time. The departure from the Omni was easy, although I will have to recommend that unless you are very familiar with Louisville, stay in the Omni or within walking distance the night before and maybe after your stay. I am actually quite familiar with Louisville, and I live in Kentucky….and this was way easier than trying to sketch out a similar experience on my own. Plus there were a couple of perks I didn’t expect at a couple of the stops that were really cool. So….I would recommend this for anyone that wants to see a couple distilleries, learn some history, drink some good bourbon….whether you are a Kentucky native or visiting.

Mint Julep was wonderful, from the very first email I received. I sent an inquiry from their website and received an email in response from Jeannie, an Experience Coordinator. She immediately gave me information and basic pricing info, something no other company I contacted did. She was also super friendly and helpful. She set up a great tour for me, no easy feat as my group was going on Monday, a day when many distilleries are closed. Jeannie arranged a wonderful itinerary, including getting one distillery to open up for a private tour and tasting. She arranged lunch for us and even suggested a farm distillery we had never heard of, that was wonderful. We set all this up through emails and phone calls when needed. Jeannie always got back to me quickly and with good news. It was so much easier than it would have been trying to figure it out myself.
Then on the day of the tour, we had the most awesome driver. Jim texted to let us know he was on the way, and patiently waited as we slowly headed out. Jim was so kind and friendly. He shared lots of great history and info with us and just had the best attitude. He also took great photos every time we handed him a camera and asked for a group shot. The distilleries we went to were awesome and just a lovely contrast between all three to experience. Then, when one of our group broke the tasting glass we got from the 2nd stop, Jim went and replaced it while we were on our next tour. She was so surprised and pleased. Jim was a consummate gentleman and a real sweetheart. After the tour he even sent us some candid photos he had taken of us enjoying our tasting. All in all, our experience with Mint Julep could not have been better, and I will definitely be using them again soon.

My husband and I visited Louisville for our anniversary and to experience the KY Bourbon Trail. I am not a bourbon drinker but wanted to make sure my husband visited the distilleries he likes. We chose a custom trip for two through Mint Julep Experiences. My husband was able to choose his top two - Buffalo Trace and Stitzel Weller for tour/tasting with lunch at Goodwood Brewing and a cocktail stop at Castle and Key Distillery recommended by the booking team. Our driver, Jerry, was a lot of fun and knowledgeable about Louisville/surrounding areas and made sure to drive past landmarks and through the horse farms. I recommend all of our stops. Even a non-bourbon drinker like me (I did try a few) enjoyed the history and tours and I appreciated the brewery lunch spot and cocktail stop for beverage options I enjoy. Castle and Key Distillery is new but we could have hung out there all day, the grounds are beautiful and the craft cocktails were very yummy! If you are looking for a fun day with the option to customize for a party of two or more, I highly recommend contacting Mint Julep to help plan your experience on the KY Bourbon Trail!

Mint Julep Tours made it so easy, from initial planning down to the details of our itinerary, and communication with our driver. Jerry, our trip leader and driver, was wonderful. He shared stories and tidbits about areas we were passing, and even snuck in a few more quick, fun stops along the way. We used Louisville as home base, and in two days we covered 5 distilleries plus a tour at Churchill Downs, along with lunches. Everything was seamlessly arranged by Jeannie, our experience coordinator. On the final day of touring, we were able to stow luggage for 12 on the van and were dropped off in Lexington to end our trip for a few more days on our own. This drop off in a second city was helpful as we had flown and didn't have cars, and it was included as part of our daily rate. We highly recommend this outfit (and specifically loved Jeannie for planning, and Jerry for leading us around!). Top notch company!

We were lucky to experience The Bourbon Trail tour with Cindy and Dan. We enjoyed Cindy’s stories, Dan’s depth of historical knowledge, and their humor throughout the day. We visited Wilderness Trail, Woodford Reserve, and Bulleit with lunch in between at Copper and Oak. All whiskey tastings and tours were unique and well done, and highlights of lunch were smoked old fashioned cocktails done table side and the smokehouse burgers. We had the best day celebrating my husband’s 40th birthday and we would highly recommend Mint Julep Tours to anyone looking for an expertly planned day of fun, education, and bourbon!

My husband and I travelled down to Lexington with another couple to do the Bourbon Trail and we hired Mint Julep to get the full experience (& let’s be honest- a DD more importantly). We were so fortunate to have Brent as our driver for the day and couldn’t have been happier with the entire experience. We rode in style all day in a spacious new Tahoe, he provided some history of the town and trail & gave us suggestions for the rest of our stay in town. His personality and humor fit right in with our group and I’d highly recommend Mint Julep for anyone looking for a great day. Jeannie was very responsive throughout the booking process and was a huge help in planning the route. All we had to do was show up! We can’t wait to come back and tour other distilleries in the future!

I booked a three distillery tour with Mint Julep experiences for the Friday before the 2023 Kentucky Derby. My group had an amazing time! We went to Jim Beam, Four Roses and Makers Mark. I worked with Jeannie and she was incredibly helpful and always quick to answer any of my questions for my groups specific needs. Thanks to her, booking the tour was a seamless and stress free experience. She handled getting my group on a beautiful bus as well as handled booking all the tours at each distillery. Our driver Kenny was a total rockstar! He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and fun. He got us to all our locations on time and made sure anything we picked up at each distillery was safely secured in the back of the bus. He even offered to go grab us some snacks while we were on a tour so when we got back to the bus we would have something to eat on the way to the next location. Everybody I worked with at Mint Julep experiences went above and beyond to make our day the best it could be. My group had so much fun, I would recommend Mint Julep Experiences to anybody looking to check out any of the distilleries. We are already talking about coming back next year to do it again and see some new distilleries. I can't say enough good things about this company and the people who make it so great.

Booking a custom tour with Mint Julep Experiences was the best decision! I wanted to plan a surprise tour for my husband's 30th birthday, and Cherise made the booking process incredibly easy. Since I decided to skip the lunch stop in order to add another distillery tour, she even coordinated box lunches for our group of 8.
On the day of our actual tour, we didn't have to worry about one thing thanks to our guide Larry. He was phenomenal! From sharing the most interesting Bourbon Trail stories to pulling off at a horse farm to take our photos, he truly was the best! He even carried our gift shop bags back to the tour bus for us. When we return to the Bourbon Trail in the future, we will definitely be booking another custom tour with Larry!

Great private Bourbon Trail for 6- Chasta did a great job lining up a wonderful day of tastings and tours (Steller-Weitzel, Jeptha Creed, and Buffalo Trace). Tom, our tour guide for the day, was excellent! Our favorite distillery tour was the Jeptha Creed private barrel tasting. Highly Recommend Mint Juleps!

No bathroom on the bus...but stretch stop there definitely are nice facilities. I think the longest ride was an hour. You can eat/ drink on the bus too!

I'm looking at some of your tours. It looks like a lot of driving time. Louisville to barton or buffalo trace, looks painfully long. 4+hrs

There is a good bit of windshield time to get around Bourbon Country. Luckily, tours with Mint Julep go quickly because you have an expert guide on board the bus giving you fun facts and bourbon history along the way. And we optimize your itinerary and secure all admission tickets in advance so there's little down time once you get to each destination. Going south to places like Maker's Mark is about 90 minutes one way, so safe and comfortable transportation can make or break your Kentucky Bourbon Trail adventure. We hope you'll choose to travel with us!

What distilleries does this tour stop at?
Marian E
Portsmouth, NH527 contributions
It depends which day you choose to go. We went on a Fri, so we started at Maker’s Mark (which is the furthest out) and worked our way back to Louisville stopping at Jim Beam and 1792. However, we made 2 bonus stops - at Four Roses (for a tasting) and the Heaven Hill museum and store. You can find all of the itineraries on their website. I highly recommend them!
Does the cost of the tour include lunch and all admissions to the distilleries?

Yes, and the lunch was at a golf course. We had our choice of food but almost everyone chose the “Hot Brown” which was delicious. Alcoholic drinks were not included at lunch.
All distillery admissions were included and I think every one of them had a tasting room. Some of them gave multiple tastes.

Hi! We will be attending the Kentucky Derby & have booked the bourbon/horse tour with Mint Julep. Very excited but worried about bathroom breaks as I have Crohn's disease. Are there bathrooms on the bus or how often does the driver stop for bathroom breaks?

Hi Visitors. How long did the Mint Julip tour last? Did you need to have dinner after it was over? Thanks so much, Ginger

The public tasting tours last 9 hours approximately. Starting around 7:45/8 AM. Eat breakfast before-hand or bring it to-go with you on the tour bus. You will be back by 4:30/5 PM. Definitely make plans for dinner afterwards. It's a long day of touring/walking around and the lunch you have on the tour is very standard lunch amount (sandwich, fries, drink). You will be hungry again by dinner time. Enjoy!
Is there wheelchair accessibility on both the motor coach and tours?

Our Public Bourbon Tour vehicles are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. For Custom Tours we can make the request to try and secure a vehicle with wheelchair accessibility, but that is pending availability.

Lunch stops??
I am interested in taking the Thursday and Friday tours. I've read that there's a set menu at whichever restaurants they stop at... are there vegetarian options? I want to make sure my husband can eat, especially considering all the bourbon he'll be drinking and that this a birthday gift!
Thanks!

I would just call and tell them your situation. I'm sure they will do everything they can to accommodate you. This is an excellent tour company. They are very professional and know what it takes to make their customers happy. We thoroughly enjoyed our bourbon tour. The busses are very comfortable and they provide ice, water and drink cups. We had "light food" with our tour but there was more than enough food for everyone to even have seconds if they wanted it. I will be scheduling another tour with them in the future.
