At Travel the Trail Custom Bourbon Tours, we provide our guests a comfortable and informative look into Kentucky's legendary bourbon distilleries. As our name suggests, we customize your tour based on your desires, and are very flexible when it comes to your specifications. Tours will include 2-3 distilleries, tastings, and an opportunity for lunch. In addition, we also offer horse farm tours, and excursions to Churchill Downs and Keeneland during their racing seasons. Experience the rich history of Kentucky with Travel the Trail!

Lee took a group of 7 of us on the bourbon trail. I would highly recommend going with him. We sent him a list of places we wanted to visit and he did all the leg work booking the stops and handling all the logistics. He even added a stop that we never would have known about that was a fun contrast from the big commercial bourbons we did earlier in the day. He picked us up and arrived right when he said he would. He also picked a great local place to stop for lunch. He was very responsive while setting it up and definitely knew his stuff about bourbon and Kentucky in general.

Rob was an excellent guide, he arrived on time, very polite and he had water and snacks in the van for all guests. We arrived on time for all our tours and tastings and checked us in at each place. Rob made suggestions for certain areas to stop and take pictures and was very knowledgeable about the history of each area we were going though. Travel the trails is a top notch company that I would suggest to anyone and will use when we come back for our next trip.

Andy took our group of 9 out for the day and was absolutely fantastic! He offered suggestions for us and was very accommodating to our requests. He is very knowledgeable regarding various distilleries and the industry as a whole. I will absolutely be recommending Travel the Trail and Andy French to friends. Thanks Andy!

We are so glad you enjoyed your Bourbon Trail experience with Andy. He is a wealth of information with his many years of experience as a wine and spirits representative. As your group could tell, he really enjoys sharing his knowledge with our tour groups as we make the rounds through Bourbon Country. Come back and see us again.

We used Travel the Trail for a group of 6 and it was worth every penny! Bob was so friendly and knowledgeable and the trip was very well organized from the planning to execution! When we weren’t able to make a tasting because of long lines and time restraints Bob went above and beyond & brought the tasting to us! I would highly recommend!

We booked the tour about a month before our trip. Payment was simple, logistics were clear and concise! Rob ended up being our driver and picked us/dropped us off in Louisville. The van was nice, equipped with snacks and water and Rob really made the whole experience a really enjoyable time. He was patient, funny, full of info, played bourbon trivia with us on the way home and gave away great prizes! I am definitely going to recommend this company to anyone I know who is interested in an all around wonderful experience! Thanks again Rob and company for being professional and making it fun!!!

Thank you so much for this kind review. I'm delayed responding here but I do remember you and your three friends as you guys were a blast. We had a great day in Bardstown, KY and construction projects that were underway the day we visited distilleries are nearing completion. You should book a tour with us again to come and see the changes! I would be happy to show you all around :) Thank you.

“Travel the Trail” is a unique company that offers customized Bourbon Trail Tours to accommodate a range, from one couple to a group reservation. We booked our tour for just the two of us and “Travel the Trail” owner, Lee Buckner, was an excellent curator who showed great patience in planning our tour, tailored to the distilleries we were interested in visiting (Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, Buffalo Trace). Moreover, he worked tirelessly to fit our available dates and time frames to plan the most amazing day on the Bourbon Trail, for us. Our driver, Rob Carothers, was an exceptional guide with a deep catalog of local knowledge and history, which enhanced our distillery experience on the road between sites. Throughout the drive, Rob, a Louisville native, seasoned our distillery tours with a running narrative of the Bourbon industry’s heritage, pointing out multiple historic points of interest along the way. As an added bonus our route took us through the heart of thoroughbred country, with spectacular views of the vast horse pastures enclosed by miles of iconic four-board fencing—along with Rob’s well-informed commentary and relaxed willingness to stop for photos. While we were booking, Lee suggested a variety of great choices for the lunch that’s included on the tour, and we had an excellent stop at a local favorite (Wallace Station)—with an outstanding “bill of fare” (sandwiches, burgers, salads, and house-made desserts), that we dined on under the shade trees over their deck. On our drive back, Rob played “Bourbon Trivia,” with us—replete with door prizes! Not only did we have an amazing Bourbon Trail experience, but we also feel like we’ve made new friends, with the members of the “Travel the Trail Team!”

Bob, Lee and Travel the Trail were a great addition to our Louisville vacation. Lee tailored an outing to the area we wanted to explore including Maker’s Mark, Bardstown Bourbon co and Heaven Hill. Bob picked us up at out vacation residence and gave us rich history lessons about bourbon and the local area. Each stop was a learning adventure and a fantastic lunch was included. I highly recommend Travel the Trail for your custom bourbon adventure.

We spent two days touring the rolling hills of bourbon country with Lee. He was punctual, professional and I would highly recommend him and his team. We enjoyed our customized private tour, all arranged by Lee. Really appreciated our conversations and all of his knowledge about bourbon and the area. Highly recommend!!!

Lee was an excellent tour guide and the entire experience was exactly what we were hoping to experience. Having someone else take care of the logistics made the trip so enjoyable. Even during these times of COVID, we were still able to have a safe and fun time.
