About
The first era of the Lexington Brewing Co. began in the 1890s and came to a halt during Prohibition, changing ownership several times in the decades that followed. By the time Pearse Lyons and his son, Mark, explored the brewery in 1999, it was a dilapidated shell of what it had once been. However, Pearse was a visionary and entrepreneur and saw only what it could be. Spurred by a passion for brewing and distilling that courses through the Lyons family lineage of Irish coopers, Pearse revived Lexington Brewing Co. and restored a craft beer tradition that dates back to the 1700s. Pearse continued to dream big as he set his sights on distilling — a natural progression given his background in fermentation, his family’s heritage and Kentucky’s bourbon tradition. Two copper pot stills that were commissioned from Scotland arrived at Lexington Brewing Co. in 2008. In 2012, Town Branch Distillery opened, first new distillery to be built in Lexington, Kentucky, in more than 100 yrs.

Good amount of sampling but lacking history and only 2 rooms to see since most process done off site
The tour was great and not lacking in samples. Tour guide was knowledgeable about distillery and brewing process and history from 1970s forward. I was somewhat disappointed that we did not see much. Most of this is done off site. Understandable but wish this was clearer on website. Would have like to have heard history prior to 70s.
Hi Janet, Thank you for taking the time to review your visit.

Worth the cost and happy we did it.
Visiting the Lexington area on vacation. This tour was completely different than another we took on the Bourbon Trail. Our guide, Augustus was very informative. Tasty samplings afterward. Samplings from both the brewery and the distillery. We were impressed.
Thank you RKeller 57 for your kind words appreciate your time in sharing your experience. I will ensure Augustus sees this review; he will be thrilled.

    Sunset distillery tour
This was a tour of the distillery side of this business. we were a bit late in arriving so we did not get to visit the brewery side. Also, the guest were given tokens to put in a cup for the things they wanted to taste liquor wise. Since we were late, we got no tokens, but our tour guide was generous with what we were allowed to taste. At the end you could choose two full size drinks to sample. I chose the one with the Fresca and gin called the skinny mini I think. It was very tasty and refreshing. I thought this was a great tour, and the only reason I gave it a 4 was because one person in our party said they couldn’t hear what the bartender was explaining and saying. Very enjoyable and a great way to cap off our day.
Thank you cnn73 for the review and sharing your experience. Glad to read you enjoyed the tour!

    Fun Time at Lexington Brewing
Such a fun and informative tour! Tom, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable as well as a crowd pleasure. I gained a greater appreciation for the word "craft." The atmosphere and friendliness is likened to their roots in Ireland. Parking is easy, tastings are ample, and the experience is worth a repeat in the future. Definitely place this tour high on your list!
Thank you 708Boo! We appreciate the 5-star review and the kind words regarding Tom and overall review our facility concerning tastings, parking etc. Thank yoU!!

    Awesome!
Fun experience, worth the stop. Lots of tastings with the tour. Our guide John was fantastic! Only our family came for the tour and he catered well to our less interested 4 year old. We enjoyed our time and purchased quite a bit to bring home with us!
Hi Shelby, John was thrilled to see your comments. We appreciate the 5-star review!

    Informative and entertaining!
Our tour guide Derek was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We learned a lot about bourbon and beer. The token system for samples was smart and we especially enjoyed the free sample at the end. Great experience, I highly recommend.
Thank you Joanna for the review and 5-star rating. Derek was thrilled about your comments.

    Don’t miss this tour!
The tour was very informative and interesting. Both tastings, the brewery and distillery, were great. We have loved the Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Ale for quite a while and enjoyed hearing about the brewing process. Derek was our tour guide, and he did an amazing job of explaining the brewing and distilling processes! We were able to purchase some items after the tour and look forward to creating our own concoctions! A big thanks to Derek, an IU grad, for a great experience!
Thank you for sharing your experience and the 5-star review! Derek was thrilled to see the review.

    Fun tour
Derek was fun and entertaining....and smart. His dry humor made the tour interesting, education,al and entertaining. Easy to navigate with a wheelchair guest, and fast-paced enough not to get bored. The samples are very generous. I would take a sip or two--and that was plenty for me. The store is nice and people are friendly and fun.

So much fun and tasty of a product, we extended in the area another night!!
Our tour guide was amazing! She had the perfect mix of information and entertainment. We were driving through and didn’t realize until the weekend before that we could (and should) do tours (military PCS). We had so much fun on this tour we extended another night in the area. When we walked up we were so excited because we recognized the label and buy this beer a lot. After tasting 4 of the beers and 4 of the spirits We left with a box of stuff!!
Hello Petrinal, So glad to read we were able to get you on a tour and you enjoyed your visit. Glad you enjoyed your visit to Lexington.

    Beautiful Gift Shop
Thank you Stephen for the excellent tour this week! Such enthusiasm! I was very surprised in how smooth all of these spirits were that we tried at the tasting. Excited to see the hop garden fill out in the future and to hear about some new beers grown from the hops on site! I think my favorite thing is the interior of the visitor center and store.
Thank you Mike for the 5-stars and the review. I made sure Stephen saw your comments.

From start to finish our family of 5 adults thoroughly enjoyed this tour and learned so much from Tom, our guide. Tom was extremely well versed in the company itself, it’s history, as well as distilling and brewing. He was engaging, friendly, and all around an A+ tour guide. Even if you’re not a big fan of bourbon or beer you’ll find this tour very informative…and the price is very reasonable. The treat at the tours end-Bluegrass Sundown- was the icing on the cake. Thank you Tom.

We stopped in for a tour before we headed home from our weekend bourbon trip. Honestly before heading there we weren't overly excited, because we weren't familiar with the brand. Totally ended up being the best surprise of the weekend! Our tour guide was Del, and he was great! Even though the facility is newer, it doesn't disappoint! Their brews and bourbons we're super good, and they even had gin and rum in their tasting selection.

Del made us a treat using their "Bluegrass Sundown".
Y'all...
For real...
...you know, I can't even describe how sinfully good this drink is. You should just go try one yourself!

We were in Kentucky for 4 days on an extensive beer and whisky trail trip and staying in Lexington. We'd never heard of Alltech but popped in on a whim as we were having a walk around Lexington. This is definitely quite a unique place but more than that, it feels like a very worthwhile bit of Lexington's and Kentucky's modern history, given the founder's (Dr Pearse Lyons) background. Getting both a brewery and a distillery in one is great, as was tasting their quite good products!

Really enjoyed our visit! We’ve been on other KY distillery tours, but this is the only one of the 40+ on the Awesome KY Bourbon Trail that includes both a brewery (beer) and bourbon distillery. Hats off to this distillery for combining traditional Kentucky bourbon with beer. There’s a good reason that their Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is the #1 craft beer (in sales) in the state. Spoiler alert - It’s really good!! This particular distillery uses bourbon barrels 4 different ways, which is amazing. One for bourbon, two for beer and one for scotch. Only frustration during the tour is that it was difficult to hear the guides with so much background noise, but they were very engaging, especially Laura. Really glad we visited this little gem in the quaint city of Lexington, KY.

The big names on the Bourbon Trail are sold out months in advance, so you'll work down the list and find Town Branch. It's a small distillery, not much to see, less to do (most of the action takes place off-site). The guide is swinging for the fences to make a 10 minute tour into an hour. Really just a tasting tour and gift shop. At least the tasting tour is very reasonable price and more importantly, available.

I had a wonderful experience at LB&D co! Getting to tour and taste wonderful beers and whiskeys simultaneously is simply fantastic. Our awesome tour guide, Boyd, gave a very thorough and entertaining tour, and we were also joined by the owner! Definitely give the vanilla and tangerine beers a try as they are unique and tasteful! Also, I highly recommend trying the straight rye and cask strength bourbons. Be careful not to use all of your tokens (4 total) on just the beer! Sit and stay for another draft pour after the tour with some wonderfully nice people (Stacy and company). I loved everything about the experience! P.s. This is a real review and not automated (unlike some other distilleries). :)

My friend and I had a great experience with tour guide Boyd. He did a great job of explaining the history of the facility, the process of brewing beer and distilling spirits, and all that makes Lexington Brewing & Distilling unique--not only to the Bourbon Trail but also to Kentucky. The tour takes about an hour, but you will definitely want to stick around afterward to shop, look around, and have a beer. Bartenders Laura and Daniel were super friendly and happy to serve. It just so happened that they were hosting trivia that night, so we decided to play. They brought in a food truck too. We will definitely be back!

We had a great time on this tour. Adults get four tokens for tasting, which was plenty, especially since the beer tastings are pretty large. We got to see the brewery and distillery on our guided tour. I really don’t recommend this tour for people under 21 years old. There were kids with their parents on our tour, and they were MISERABLE because it’s hot and smelly at times (brewing is not a glamorous process), and they don’t even get to taste the good stuff. Leave the kids at home and come enjoy some good beer and bourbon.

Our tour guide was great! He was happy to answer questions and very friendly and funny during the tour. The facility and grounds are well maintained and very clean. It was a great looking distillery and brewery. The design of the gift shop / tasting room was very unique. We would go back just to hang out inside there and enjoy a drink!

A group of three friends and myself went on a tour and it did not disappoint. We unanimously agree that Boyd was one of the best tour guides we've ever had - he was entertaining and knowledgeable. We all felt that the tour was well worth the money and had a great time sampling both the beers and bourbons! It wasn't a super in depth tour with a ton of behind-the-scenes workings, but we all felt that it was worth it for the cost with some time to kill.
