I haven't been here since I was a kid on a field trip from school.. We got there before opening and a line was already formed..Their point of sale should be better as only one family/person could check in at once..this made it terribly slow going in..Got our golf cart keys and there was no instructions giving on them whatsoever. There were 5 adults and 2 small kids. I would say the golf carts are a absolute MUST and the best part of our trip.. without them everyone would have been miserable walking inclines and lugging coolers. My nephew loved them more than the animals I think. Most of the enclosures seem pretty small even though the animals looked healthy. This place has been around for ages and looks like there has never been any decision made to update enclosures or anything new in the park. The park rules seemed pretty relaxed and it made for an easier day.. it was so nice to bring coolers in and spread out on the picnic table which saved us some $$. Everytime we went past the outback cafe it was closed until later in the day the lines were long.. seemed to be bathrooms and/or porta potties almost everywhere which was also wonderful. We attempted the cave tour and some of our party chickened out and had to turn around. The walk through the cave wouldn't be so long if they didn't allow 1478 people in at once.. we couldn't hear the guide speak and constantly having to wait for all these people in the cave was terribly hard with a small child who doesn't understand waiting yet, but we made it.. HOWEVER at the lorikeets they only allow like 3-4 people in at a time and the wait was bad there in the sun. Doesn't make sense.. if you weren't waiting in line anywhere there was shade everywhere which made it nice to pull over or walk to get out of the heat. We had a really good time but they need to do some updating..

Where else are you going to find Kangaroos in Kentucky? That alone was super cool, and petting/feeding them was awesome. I also loved the Lories even though one of them literally pooped on me (don't stand under them). The cave would have been better if they had limited the number of people who could go down at any given time (maybe they do, but it seemed overly crowded during the 1:30 tour). The animal show was pretty cool and the kids got up close with the reptiles. The golf carts are only needed if you have difficulty walking or have multiple small children. The hike up the hill wasn't a challenge for anyone in our party (ages 11-69), and there really wasn't that much walking involved since everything was close together. I barely got 4,000 steps even with the cave tour and parking WAY far away from the entrance (my daily goal is 10,000). We loved feeding the animals, but the food is WAY over priced for the quantity you get. I'm guessing they limit the quantity so that the animals don't get over fed, but they really should double the amount of food. We had a Groupon discount though, so we didn't mind spending $10 on food for the animals. The only food available for human consumption was the snacks sold in the gift shop at the entrance to the park because the cafe was closed. That was a disappointment, and it would have been nice if they had told us ahead of time since we were planning to eat lunch at the cafe (didn't arrive until 10:45 AM). We left at 2 PM and went to the Dutch bakery for lunch. It's essentially right in front of Kentucky Down under and was a great choice!

The zoo is great, I liked the fact that the animals were not in cages and free to roam. The kangaroo feeding was fun. It is easy to spend a day there, there are a lot of shows and events going on. The only negative experience was waiting at the cafe to order food, it was 45 min before we got to the window, 1 girl working trying to take everyone's order. It was a holiday weekend and I feel they should have been more prepared, with at least 2 people working. Parking was great, restrooms were clean and all the staff were outstanding.

I'm not sure why this place has so many 5 star reviews. First, one of the girls at the counter acted like she couldn't be bothered with us. She didn't explain anything or any of the pricing. She just told us the amount for our family, ran my card, then hurriedly shoved a receipt at me, said, "Here sign this", then walked away from the counter before I could even give it back to her. The animals were neat and my kids had a great time petting them (which is the only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars). The animal cages are small and not at all well taken care of. Some of the animals even look malnourished. The cave was just OK. It is also not well taken care of at all. Number one, you can't put an asphalt surface above the cave. It absolutely kills the water runoff that allows the cave to "live". People have also been touching the inside of the cave, which also stops growth. The girl giving the tour was very nice, but not extremely knowledgeable about caves. If you want a great cave experience, I very highly recommend Crystal Onyx Cave. If you want a great animal experience, go to Nashville Zoo.

We visited on July 3, 2021. We were under the impression that it was a zoo but it's really not a zoo. Some of the animals looked a bit miserable in small enclosures (i.e. wolves, silver fox). They had a lot of exotic birds but nothing you wouldn't see at a pet store except for a Kookaburra. The kangaroos were neat. The petting zoo was basic farm animals, of course. Ticket prices were a bit high for what they have to offer. They offer golf cart rentals and we highly recommend you spend the money (around 35 bucks) to rent one. It's a LOT of walking - mostly uphill and with kids that are young, it could be miserable walking.

An amazing stop in Kentucky! The kangaroos were all of our favorite part 🦘 Prices were great, the animal food was well priced so you could visit the kangaroos more than once. Seeing kangaroos with their joey in their pouch was priceless! The babies were so cute and they were all friendly. The animal show was informative and informal which made it a nice time to take a break. We rented a cart and we felt it was worth every penny! The staff was friendly ( especially the kangaroo handler and animal show presenter). This place will not be forgotten!

Finally made my way down under and what a fantastic day! We spent 4 or 5 hours here and could have used a little more time. The chance to interact with all these critters is a blessing. Every time a kangaroo hopped up to me by heart skipped a beat! The peacocks perched around and lorikeet enclosure were special as well. We didn't make much time for the farm animal enclosure, though as we were checking them out many escaped and watching them be herded back into the gate was quite entertaining. The Onyx Cave was pretty, but a wet and tricky walk depending how sure-footed you are.

We went with my son's cub scout pack, and the kids really enjoyed it. I, personally wasn't overly impressed. My 10 year old son absolutely loved and has asked if we can go back next time we go up that direction. I really bought the tickets for my son to enjoy it, and I'm glad he did. My only complaint would be that the girl that was doing the fudge cutting in the gift shop could have been a little nicer. She served people in front of me without asking any questions, then when she finally got to me cocked attitude that I hadn't paid yet. There was no clear direction that you were supposed to pay for the fudge first then go get it, plenty of other people were getting the fudge then checking out and she never said anything to them about checking out first. Overall, though, the experience was very nice. I'm glad that they offer golf carts because we were all pretty wore out from visiting Mammoth Cave that morning.

It is a rundown zoo. Seeing kangaroos depressed, lethargic and looking sick in that unhealthy confinement was devastating. All the animals were sleepy and lethargic by 11 o’clock. The management is not doing any job taking care of the animals. I couldn’t believe they allow dogs in the zoo with wild life around and peacocks walking. On top of that they allow golf carts for the visitors to use putting wild animals and the kids running around in danger.
Totally disappointing place to see Australian animals basically in prison and miserable.

Went several years ago, remembered having a great time. Not my experience this time unfortunately. Went on Labor Day, pretty crowded, so every golf cart was rented out (really...golf carts in a place this small unless one is disabled or elderly?) Not that we wanted one, but to say that the carts really took away from us having a good experience. You had to constantly be on guard for your kids walking around and they were just everywhere! If you think strollers are annoying, this takes it to a new level. Especially in the bird area. The cafe needs to be staffed with more people as it is the only place to get food. Takes forever to just get a drink. I remember the Lorrie bird aviary used to have several birds that would land on your head or arms. Today there were maybe 8 birds total and they were so obviously full from people feeding them they weren't all that eager to be fed. The park is pretty and the cave is neat (unless you get the guide we had, who my group agreed was obnoxious) and the kangaroo experience is fun, but don't pay full price, wait for a groupon.
