Old-time bookstore
Aug 2021 • Friends
Great old bookstore. Organized to some extent but a hodge-podge in the back. We each found two great old books.. lots of choices!
Books are priced in pencil but the owner bundled our purchases and suggested a very reasonable number.

An absolute gem of a store
Jul 2021 • Friends
This bookstore was a gem and totally worth the stop. Full of books, history, character. Great prices-and worth every penny. They don’t make small second hand bookstores like this any more and it’s a real shame. Wonderful. (Note: cash only)

Exceptional collection of books and the proprietor is helpful and fun to talk with. I especially liked the Kentucky and history sections.

Simple Used Bookstore
May 2019 • Couples
Walked in with live music playing--the old gents use this store to play. Nothing special about store, used books stacked on makeshift shelves and priced very cheap. Very friendly place.

Truly a Gem
May 2018 • Family
Great old bookstore in Horse Cave - not far from the highway. The owner now lives on site and he certainly knows his books. We like to stop by here when in the area and we always leave with a handful of books. He buys them too. There is a huge selection of new and mostly used books. There is something about an old country bookstore!

Found a Gem
Sep 2018 • Family
My daughter-in-law and I found this quaint bookstore advertised in tourist information and it was really a treat. The atmosphere was relaxed, the owner was present to guide if need be, but wasn't at your elbow. Areas to read were roomy, comfy. Books were well labeled. We found some bargains among old books. We're from Illinois and sorry it's so far - we'd love to visit often! Thanks for a great experience!

Stepping back in time
May 2018 • Solo
I love the atmosphere. The owners are very nice and when you leave you know you have found a new friend. The areas set aside to read in are very comfortable and just big enough to feel comfortable but not shut off from the rest of the world. I was not approached a 100 times asking if I needed help. I was left to enjoy the solid and books on top of books.

The Book Store is a place for humor, stories and music
Mar 2017 • Couples
The Book Store is a place for humor, stories and music. Tom Chaney is a first rate storyteller. He is a kind person with a lot of humor. The Book Store is packed full! Go and stay awhile. You will find a book you want to take home. Usually they have Thursday night jamming inside or on the porch. Go listen to some music! At any rate, go in with an open heart and you may just hear a wonderful tale or two from Tom.

Jammin' on the Front Porch - We felt awkward 😕
Jul 2016 • Family
My family and I had seen the Jammin' on the Front Porch at The Bookstore on the tourist literature for the area and decided to check it out. We arrived right when it started and several people were already there tuning up their instruments. We were immediately asked if we had an instrument. I replied no, we just wanted to listen. I received a glare, and a 'well we are looking for people who play' comment. Needless to say we left after that exchange. My impression from reading information online and some of the tourist information was you were welcome to enjoy the music and not play. Unfortunately that doesn't seem like the case.
