Horse Racing's Living History Museum!

At Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred Retirement Center in Georgetown, KY, the horses may not be racing anymore, but they are winners everyday. Founded in 2003 by former Boston Globe film critic Michael Blowen, Old Friends cares for more than 135 horses across three states, many of them stallions whose racing and breeding careers came to an end. A "Rural Hall of Fame", the farm welcomes visitors to get up close and personal with such stars of the turf as Breeders' Cup Champion Gulch, Belmont Stakes winner Sarava, millionaire gelding Arson Squad, and many more.

Hear their stories, meet them in person...Er..Horse. Our guests come to visit a few ex-racehorses, they leave having been touched by the heart of a Thoroughbred hero. Tours are daily at 10:00, 1:00 & 3:00 with a reservation.

Decided to take the walking tour & we all had a very enjoyable afternoon. Our tour guide was named Charlie Brown (honest!), a veritable fountain of knowledge. My wife knows almost nothing about thoroughbred horse racing, but is a former horse owner in her childhood (raised on a ranch) and really loves horses. This was the highlight of our Kentucky... Great place for these horses. The woman tour guide was a little rude at times, maybe because it was 95 degrees o well..great thing the owner does

I highly recommend visiting Old Friends as part of a tour. We met famous race horses who are considered 'celebrities.' Our tour guide introduced us to many of the horses and provided us with carrots to feed them. To our surprise, the horses were begging for carrots. Each horse was a winner of the Belmont Derby, Preakness or Breeders Cup.... More

This is by far the best attraction in the Georgetown area. It is a walking tour through Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement farm for race horses. Our tour guide was so informative telling all the stories of how each stallion ended up at Old Friends and how the farm was formed. We got to see up close (and feed carrots) to... More

The farm was a wonderful 2 hour, easy walk among the paddocks with the stallions. What a treat to feed and pet the horses. The staff love the horses and the farm, and are terrific tour guides providing lots of history of the horses.

We went recently and were very impressed with the pristine facilities and the well kept horses who were happy and content. It was especially good to see horses who had been rescued from a horrible fate and were now enjoying the peace and beauty of their new forever homes. I really was thrilled to be able to feed a carrot... More

Saw War Emblem and Silver Charm as they are today, long passed their prime. Good to see they are loved and cared for in a lovely surrounding.
