Start at the History Center and hopefully you will get David for your guide. He was excellent and showed us an amazing suspended staircase you have to see to believe.

Roger gave a GREAT tour! Interesting stories and trivia, along with art and architectural features. Antidotes of historical figures were fascinating, and some rather humorous!

Buy one ticket and see this great structure along with the KY Military Museum and the state's history museum. Top attractions in Frankfort, unless you're there for the bourbon.

This place is full of history. Small when compared to the new capitol building but recently restored to as nearly original as can be determined. Some ongoing restoration. The guide presents an interesting account of the assassination of Governor William Justus Goebel who was shot...More

Could not go on a tour as I was there on a Sunday, but from the outside, you have to go. We were able to walk up to it and just be there.

One Day in Springfield with grandchildren (ages 8 and 10) (6 Replies)
My husband and I will be bringing our granchildren (girl and boy) to Springfield for a day of touring. I know we want to go to the Lincoln Museum and his tomb. I've been looking at other things to do knowing we won't have a lot of time. I'm considering the Old State Capitol and the new Capitol. Not sure if we need to do both. I see also that there is the Pythian Castle which looks interesting. I thought we might see the outside of his house but not tour the inside. Old Salem is a possibility...More

I would guess that by the time you go to the Museum and the Tomb, coupled with lunch, you won't really have time to go to New Salem as well. Seeing his house doesn't really take that long and you are there anyway so why not? I would tour the old capitol over the new one, personally.

My Way Too Long Chicago (plus) Trip Report (10 Replies)
Our family (wife, two teenage boys, and me) made our trip in July. We stayed at Fox River Resort in Sheridan. We booked through RCI as a swap (for cost reasons). We ended up doing more day trips to Chicago than expected. In retrospect we should have stayed in the city (as the Destination Experts will tell you). But it...More
