    Great experience for everyone
First time riding a horse for my eight and five year old and everything went surprisingly well. My wife and I are not expert horse riders either. The five year old rode with my wife and the eight year old rode by herself. I though the horse riding staff was professional and friendly. They did a good job ensuring everyone was safe. Horses seemed to be well fed and taken care of. The trail is beautiful as it weaves in and out of woods and a meadow. The trail goes about 2.5 miles and lasts about an hour. Cost was about $90 for our family of four (3 horses with wife and youngest daughter on one horse). Not cheap but a great experience my kids will never forget.

Great location, great staff, and a must-see!
Jesse James Riding Stables offers lots of very tame and friendly horses, that are very well taken care of by their staff. Every time I have made it out to the Kentucky Action Park - the staff has been super helpful, kind and 'ready to help', usually getting me on the next available horse back ride. The cost to ride their horses is very affordable, and I would absolutely recommend this stop, for everyone who likes - horseback riding, mini golf, alpine slides or - anyone that is just in the area! It's a gem!

    The best horseback riding around
We have made this place a must visit every time we drive down to Kentucky. They let their horse roam free in the evenings on their 93 acre horse ranch unlike other stables that cage them at night. They have the most authentic horseback riding experience around with prices that are affordable for the whole family to enjoy. I will bring my friends and family with me to enjoy this attraction on every visit! Highly recommend!!

As we pulled up, one sign said Jessie James and one said Jesse James. That made the teens laugh because it was like they weren’t sure which spelling was correct.

The price was great ($6 per person). Note that you also get charged a fee if you use a credit card.

There was only one other family there when we were, so it was not crowded. Two of our four people won free games for being under par on hole 9.

The course itself is mostly flat with no obstacles. The blocks that line the course are partially crumbled or knocked over in spots. We redid a couple of holes because of that.

All in all, it gave us some good laughs and was a cheap activity.

This was my 7 year old sons first time riding by himself & he loved it. Horses know the path so it wasn’t too much work for him & the trail is not too steep. Really nice ride through the hillside & the views are beautiful. Guides are great, they made us feel very comfortable

Justice is an awesome tour guide! My husband & I were killing time before checking into the hotel. We both hadn’t ridden in over 10 years. It was so HOT outside, but thank the Lord most of the trails were in the shade in the woods. We had a good time & everyone that worked there was so nice

Took my 6 yo daughter for the one hour ride. Great introductory ride with friendly and reassuring staff. Is as advertised, gentle trail ride with calm horses. Thank y’all for a great morning!

We did a 1 hour ride with our kids (2, 5 and 7). The 7 year old had her own horse while the other 2 doubled, one with each parent. Our guide was great, the horses were wonderful. Very pretty area to ride in and enjoy. Would definitely do it again.

We paid for a 1 hr ride and got about a 35 minute ride. Our guide was completely unprofessional and rude. He smoked cigarettes the entire ride. One of my kids, although he is 15 is emotionally and mentally like a 10 year old. The guide actually said to my child, "Are you as dumb as you sound, boy?" Incredible! No thank you for choosing us today or anything along those lines-just rudeness. We will never go back there!

I haven't ridden a horse in a long, long time. This was a great family experience! My teenage daughters first time. She has Horse allergies and it was her request to go for a ride. So we loaded her up with her meds and spent an hour out on the horse trail. The horses were very well trained. They stayed in line with little effort or input, and the staff was amazing! YeeHaa!!!
Riding helmets are an option for adults. Small children need to ride with an adult. We had a blast! If this review was helpful please give me a thumbs up. Thanks and Happy Vacationing!

The stables are part of the Ky Action Park. I've separately rated the park. The zip lining was great, the park was okay. From the time we bought the tickets to the end of the trip it just wasn't the same experience as the zip lining. There was an older lady that assisted us. She wasn't very friendly and spoke to me like my questions bothered her. It was like I was interfering with her doing something else. She did answer my questions, she just wasn't polite. I had 19 people with me and maybe the kids were making too much noise for her, but we kept them at a table and purchased hot dogs and pizza for all of them and they weren't that loud. The horseback riding started off well, but quickly turned into a bad experience. One of my nieces and my 3 yr old great niece were told to give up the reigns to one of the trainers, I later learned that she was holding it too high, the guide reached out to get them and he missed them and off went the horse! My niece and great niece were both screaming as 3 of the guides tried to stop the horse. My niece tried to be a trooper after that, but once the other kids saw that, they all said "my horse might do that too"! I tried to reassure them that it would be fine. The other guides explained that the guide who thought he was helping shouldn't have charged the horse like that to get the reins, that he had only been there a few months but that he should know better. That didn't make me feel ANY better. Needless to say there was no way we could do the hour. The kids were too afraid at that point. Another niece freaked out over it and had an asthma attack. The mother (my other niece) was having a panic attack watching her baby on this horse that wasn't controlled. My niece actually stopped the ride early and asked to be taken back. She just couldn't do it. The same guide once again tried to help as the horse backed up into the trees, hitting my niece in the face with the limbs and he once again missed the reins! They both were terrified after the experience. She said she just wanted to walk back but they convinced her to ride back next to one of the other guides. At one point the gentleman in front of our group just stopped because he didn't know which way to go. My husband shouted to the guides "which way?" and the response was "Straight!" There were 3 guides for 23ppl and a guide commented that he knew one of them only came along because he thought the tip would be large with a large group! They probably shouldn't have been so sharing.

I asked for money back for my niece and my great niece and for a discount since we didn't get to do the hour. I was first told no. Then the same impolite woman told me they could take my niece's and great niece's off. She said she could give us rain checks for everyone else. Most of my family was from Jacksonville, Maryland and New Jersey and won't be bank until next summer. I explained that and asked to speak to the manager (twice) who never actually came out to speak with me. She just kept sending the impolite woman back. I was told we could have $2.00 off each rider and I could, and I quote "take it or leave it". I have to admit that I snapped just a little bit and spoke my mind about that. Took the refund and left. I asked the kids if they wanted to stay and they were just done. We left the park and didn't really get to experience anything else. Since we didn't really get to use the armbands (you can purchase them to ride everything multiple times) they offered to give us rain checks, but again, that wouldn't really do me any good. But at least they offered at the park.

If you decide to venture out, I hope they've fired the guide that broke the rules. There's a photo team that takes pictures of you before you go out. They were great! They gave us all of our pictures for just $10 because of our experience. I don't know if I could have asked questions beforehand - or what questions to ask. Hopefully this was just a fluke. The way it was handled was horrible. There definitely needs to be better customer service at the ticket counter.

We were actually trying to find the Double J Ranch to ride but stumbled on the Jesse James with a full parking lot and decided we would stop since it was on the main road. The guides seemed to spend more time goofing off (riding sideways, standing up on the saddle, saddle belt nearly sagging to the ground). I'm pretty sure they re-used the horses again after bringing them in from a previous trail ride with no break. Usually places rotate the horses to rest them and allow them to eat. I think they didn't want to change the saddles. Price was $18/hour which is good compared to places like Glacier NP (but it's apparent the horses pay the price). The ride was just ok. I probably wouldn't go back if in the area but would try elsewhere.

My kids ages 11 and 13 had never even been near a horse before - and they absolutely loved it! We went for the 1 hour tour and it was great! Our guide was funny, very entertaining, and took excellent care of us. I got a bit anxious a few times.... and he calmed me down and made me feel very safe, and secure. The views were gorgeous, but if it has rained recently, be prepared to get a little muddy! (We didn't mind.) It will be a memory my kids will always have, and that is worth every penny spent. It was $72 for 4 of us to have a 1 hour ride, plus $20 for hats - ya gotta have a hat! :)
