- The Doc RFP20 contributionsWonderfulA nice break from drinking bourbon all day. The fee is $12.00 but that gets you 3 museums (Civil War, Village, and Military/Civil War Women) and you get 2 days to visit everything. Some of the displays messages are in need of updating as they are weathered but other than that its a really good chance to see artifacts from the civil war as well as even seeing memorabilia from just about every conflict the US has ever been in.Visited July 2020Written July 24, 2020
- daniandcoryhodges37 contributionsWorth a stop! Great bang for your buck! For one entry fee you get to see the historic village as well as 3 museums. While the museums can use a bit of updating, and perhaps a little more details on artifacts, they are each packed with tons of artifacts and relics! If you’re into history of any of the wars it is worth going by; your ticket admission is good for two days, so you can always come by the second day if it’s too much to do at once. There is a picnic pavilion in the historic village, but you do have to pay to go down there (included in admission fee). They could probably charge a little more and do some refreshing with the displays and add more detail and it still be worth it even for one of the three museums and the village. I would love to see the village with interpreters or for a festival. We couldn’t go in the walnut hull grinding mill but I would have liked to see that too. Overall, well worth it if you like American history.Visited July 2021Traveled as a coupleWritten July 5, 2021
- JungleTipMyrtle Beach, South Carolina248 contributionsLoved this PlaceWell done museum. While everyone else is visiting distilleries getting frunk from multiple tastings, we got our history on. Lots of personal items from local families and some cool recreations as well. The layout is nice and easily navigated. The outdoor buildings were cool to explore. This is the first stop on Museum Row so buy the tickets for all three museums.Visited June 2021Written June 24, 2021

It was an overcast and drizzly day when we visited; therefore, we were the only ones in the "village" and museum. It was very interesting and very well organized inside the museum itself. The staff was friendly and informative. We did take advantage of the two-day admission as it would have been overwhelming to see all of the museums in one day.

We visited the Museum for about two hours during a rain storm, which we could hear from outside. We knew that the Museum was rated one of the best on the Civil War and after visiting it we concurred with that evaluation. In addition to plentiful written explanations of the people and events portrayed, the Museum includes a very large collection of artifacts. Our only suggestion, other than correcting a date from 1962 to 1863 which we discussed with the attendant, is to label the Hunley as a replica. We had earlier seen the actual Hunley in Charleston, so we were confused as to the one in the Museum.

This is a neat little experience right next to the Civil War Museum and is included in the ticket price. Parking is available at the museum and you can walk down a ramp or the stairs to the period buildings, mostly from the 1790s and early 1800s. There is plenty of signage in and on each building to let you know what it was (along with the artifacts inside) and when it was constructed. It is definitely worth taking time to go through it. It appears there are places for classes/lectures so maybe at other times of the year - I didn't look or ask - there may be live demonstrations or individuals in costumes.

Excellent museum. Well presented exhibits and easy to navigate. Even has an iron civil war submarine. As an added attraction the old village next door is fun to walk and see. Staff at museum will answer questions about KY and TN battlefields including neighboring Perryville which had a little known impact on the war in its own right.

This street of museums and Old Bardstown Village is a must see. Both my husband and I learned so much while touring the Civil War museum then going to the Women of the Civil War and Military Museum. So much I've never seen before or knew. I applaud those who have put so much time into these small but extremely informative museum. This isn't an attraction that young children would understand.

As Canadians, we didn't know a whole lot about the Civil War, and we thought this museum did a great job of explaining the motivation behind both sides, as well as shining a light on the way Kentucky was impacted by it. The exhibits are clear and engaging. Our ticket also gave us access to the old buildings (interesting) and to the Women's Civil War Museum up the street which was also excellent! If you aren't really a history buff, this is an easy way to learn a little bit of important information. If you are a history buff, you would probably love it.

This is an excellent museum ( actually 4) filled with memorabilia, and historical stories. We enjoyed the Museum of the ConfederateWomen which is what we first wanted to see. Unfortunately we didn’t plan on time zone changes and didn’t have enough time to see it all. We didn’t know that we were in the birthplace of General Hal Moore so we certainly were impressed with his memorabilia in the military museum. The host was very helpful.

So this is four museums in one area. You have two down the hill and two up the hill. One of the ones down the hill is were you buy your ticket and make sure you give them to the whoever will hold onto them in the group because they will need to be shown to get into the two up the hill. They give you the directions to walk through the one you buy tickets at them you can go down the ramp or steps to go down to view the small collection of buildings they have. Then you can stay parked and take a path up the hill to the others or drive back up to a small parking lot and view the other two. I enjoyed the whole thing its a lot of reading and looking and I dont think that small kids would enjoy this at all. Its a lot of military uniforms and papers and medals and history. Which I can see how older kids and people would enjoy. Its a well done set of museums.

We had some time to pass so we visited the Civil War Museum. We were just hoping it would be OK. It was much more than OK ! So much information and many artifacts from the civil war were presented in an easy way to digest a lot of information. I'm 71 years old and love history but I learned things about this war I never had a clue about. Highly recommend this museum. It gave a balanced perspective from both the North and South armies. Outside the museum itself is a series of at least 12 reconstructed buildings from the period. We ran out of time to tour these but they were quite well presented from afar.
