About
In 1958, two brothers - both Wichita University students- started a restaurant in a building on the corner of Bluff and Kellogg. They sold pizza, a dish that just beginning to gain popularity in America. They staffed their business with family, friends and fraternity brothers and called it Pizza Hut. Wichita State students help tell the story of the original Pizza Hut. The Museum is free and open to the public at Wichita State University.

One room brick building which was moved form its original location and is now on Wichita State University campus. Open to the public. Museum inside includes Pizza Hut memorabilia, nostalgic restaurant table and chandelier, and info plaques. Worth stopping by even if it's closed or after hours since you can see a lot of it through the windows.

So this building is the original pizza hut. Apparently used to be someplace else in Wichita but was moved to the Wichita State University campus. Its very small. No tours, but I believe you CAN go inside. I only stopped to take a picture.

We almost skipped this stop in our trip due to spending more time than allotted at other activities. I am glad we made time. It was a neat little attraction. And fun to take a picture n front of the Original Pizza Hut.

It didn't have an actual address so we luckily found it. If you are in town and bored, it will entertain you for 3 mins. I mean we all have eaten Pizza Hut, so to see how it came to be was a little interesting.

Located on the campus of Wichita State University is a veritable shrine to a company whose distinctive red roofs dot the American landscape like pepperoni on a pizza.
Behold the Pizza Hut Museum.
Perched on a grassy oasis on WSU's Innovation Campus (beware: it was recently moved here from its previous location on Perimeter Road), the humble brick structure that housed the original Pizza Hut bears little resemblance to how the franchise appears today.
Inside, the museum contains extant artifacts from the original Pizza Hut, a tactile library, and various items and documents that chart the company's dough-like rise and expansion over the years. Also included is an archive of vintage television commercials in which people from Spike Lee to Mikhail Gorbachev shill for the company. Unfortunately (or mercifully, depending on your outlook), a now-infamous 1995 advertisement starring our current Salesman-In-Chief, Donald J. Trump, is notably absent. Alas, according to the nice young man looking after the museum at the time of our visit, the museum's brain trust deemed the commercial "too political" for inclusion in the exhibit. Too bad. Museums shouldn't be in the business of playing it safe; they should dare to take chances and force us to confront the vicissitudes of the human experience. Do you think Dan and Frank Carney, who used a modest $600 loan to open the first Pizza Hut in 1958 and eventually sold the company to PepsiCo in 1977 for a cool $300 million, achieved their success by playing it safe? I think not.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Pizza Hut Museum. As a small museum, it probably won't take more than thirty minutes to see everything, but it is definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. It stands as a testament not only to the enduring appeal of cheese, tomatoes, and dough, but also to those individuals who, according to an informational plaque outside the building, "through hard work and initiative can still rise from modest beginnings to positions of leadership and success," thus securing for themselves a slice of the American Dream Pizza.

The original Pizza Hut building has been moved from its original location at Kellogg and Bluff to the campus of Wichita State University. Dan and Frank Carney open this tiny restaurant with a loan from their mother. Pizza Hut became an internationally known restaurant with thousands of locations.

576091015
Please disregard the negative comments below.. This little jewel of a building is now a full-fledged PIZZA HUT MUSEUM!!
This is a very, very nice little museum now!! Emphasis on little,, It will open to the public on April 30th 2018 and has been moved from the location talked about below but is still on the campus of Wichita State University . The building was moved to the Innovation Campus in September as part of the renovation project.
Please note if you are in town and you want to visit a small Pizza Hut museum with all the info from the brothers from Wichita that brought Pizza Hut to life than please visit. It has some nice history some great displays and some family history on the Pizza Hut creators. I am sorry they do not have an Official web site yet so I don’t know Hours or times but you can probably google that
Please visit the internet to get more info on the Museum itself.

There really isn't a lot to do in Wichita on a Sunday morning, so we went out in search of the first Pizza Hut. It's not in operation anymore. In fact the building has been moved from it's original location to the Wichita campus. But it was a fun adventure to pass some time.

Interesting stop if you’re a HUGE fan of Pizza Hit, just happen to be killing time in Wichita, or visiting WSU campus. You’ll find video of the founders discussing the early days through the sale of restaurant to YUM Brands. Give yourself 30 minutes. Parking best in Braeburn shopping center (near Starbucks or Fuzzy Taco)

The Carneys had a vision, perhaps they were not even aware of. I just retired last year from the company that has made all Pizza Hut pans since Pizza Hut's inception. Yes, that company is in Kansas. The original restaurant store is just something to see when you realize that from this meager beginning sprung forth a mega worldwide fast food restaurant. Just incredible!
