During my young adulthood this was the real "American Graffiti" of Wichita. The tradition was to "drag Douglas from College Hill on the East to the Town & Country Diner just past Delano on West Douglas. Today downtown Wichita is DEAD at night except for the area around Old Town. Another fond memory killed due to cities deserting their downtown... More

Times have sure changed since we used to "drag" Douglas on Friday nights with all of our friends and see the new "rods".

Very impressive to see at night. Wichita is doing so much better with attractions than it used to. The Arkansas River is under the bridge and a site for many activities, including River Fest and Fourth of July fireworks.

I'm going to assume this is East side Douglas or at least not at West street. I lived at DOuglas by East High School and it was easy access to pretty much everything that side of Exploration place. Closest to Old-Town and/or Rock Road of course but it was easy to walk everywhere, which is RARE in Wichita.

Douglas Ave stretches across Wichita running east to west. In the downtown area, it was once where young baby boomers went to "drag Douglas" and hangout. Today there's no dragging. Now everyone goes to enjoy and hang out at many of the businesses, restaurants and entertainment areas on that avene. Just on the west side of the river you have... More

We walked down Douglas Ave to reach old town. There were a few cute stores and restaurants on our walk down Douglas.

The Monarch Grill on one end, parks, Downtown, antiques, Old Town, night life, shops, gas, walk the river, City History, etc. My suggestion : get familiar with this street and spin-off from there. Take your time and have fun.

Douglas Avenue is one the the main streets in downtown Wichita, Kansas. Crossing the "Wheat" bridge over the Arkansas River you soon start seeing the street sculptures on both sides of Douglas Ave. They are whimsical, sweet and very friendly for children as well as adults, and well worth experiencing. Children love finding all the animals. The sculptures are on... More

We walked east from the Drury Inn Hotel to Bricktown during the day. There are numerous outdoor bronze sculptures, historic buildings [including the Drury], shops, and places to eat.

There are so many things to do, see, eat, enjoy on Douglas street! I love the area and how well maintained it is. And there is just such a welcoming feeling!
