We had an epic full day tour with Jauvier at Osa Bird Tours. We’ve done a fair bit of travel and by far this was the best tours we’ve ever experienced as far as seeing diversity of wildlife and birds. We are not “birders” but have an interest in all wildlife. The reviews on Trip Adviser were accurate! We saw soooo many bird species including a Roseate Spoonbill, 2 species of toucans, an American Pygmy Kingfisher and too many other to name. Juavier knows his calls, his birds and the various locations to find them. We also saw all CR species of monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, many lizards a blue morpho butterfly and so much more. It was a full day with opportunities to refresh with a lunch picnic at the beach. I can’t say enough. Juavier will adapt the length of the tour for you. It was worth every penny!

Javier is an amazing guide and a wonderful and kind person. My husband and I are photographers and enjoy birds. Javier went out of his way to meet us at the Luna Lodge which is located in the OSA peninsula. He asked us what we were interested in seeing and made sure we saw everything. We spent three days exploring the peninsula with him. I always felt safe which is so important. He was born and raised in the area and truly loves nature. He knows every bird and everything you need to know about that bird. He has inspired me to learn more about the birds of Costa Rica. He is a kind and gentle soul and I encourage anyone coming to Costa Rica to contact Javier to inquire about a tour. It will be the best part of your trip.

Javier Mendosa with Osa Birders Tours did a superb job in finding the rare and endemic birds of Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. His local knowledge and birding skills helped us find such gems as the black-striped sparrow, red-capped manakin, charming hummingbird, and many more. Javier has excellent English and is very personable. Recommend the Rincon River tour. Need own car.

I spent a few days with Osa Birders Tours and had an excellent time learning about and sighting many local and migratory species. Javier is a passionate and knowledgable guide. We spent time birding in and around Puerto Jimenez. Some of my favorites were the blue dacnis, southern lapwing, fiery-billed acari and red capped manakin. I appreciated Javier's expertise and enthusiasm for the natural world. He always had interesting facts to share, like did you know that toucans use the surface area of their long bill to help release heat, helping to regulate their body temperature? Leiner is a funny and enthusiastic guide. We did a day hike into Parque Corcovado through La Leona Station and an afternoon kayaking on Golfo Ducle. We were able to lots of wildlife on both outings. Some highlights were tayra, anteater, coati, howler monkey, capuchin monkey, spider monkey, armadillo and the flashy red-legged creeper. Favorite moment, Leiner saying: "Kentucky warbler!"

My wife and I spent a morning birding the Osa Peninsula (from Puerto Jimenez) with Javier. He was an excellent knowledgable bird guide. He clearly knows all of the birds and bird songs of the area, and is knows all of the best local birding spots. He was very nice, personable, and very interesting to talk to. He's passionate about the work he does, and we would absolutely recommend him for anybody looking for a bird and/or wildlife guide in Costa Rica.
