Historic hotel, yes. Where to start? Elevator was excellent & brought us to & from our claustrophobic, 3rd floor king room easily & efficiently. Our non-smoking hotel room had cigarette butts in the bedside drawer, yuck. Front desk worker came & removed them. Lighting in room was sub-par / too bright from ceiling fixtures, inadequate from bedside lamp. The hallway lights brightly illuminated our room all night through transom window above door. Our 2nd night we unscrewed the hallway bulb - it was a relief. The furnace had been turned off for the entire building for the season, only A/C now! Snow & freezing temps; able to borrow a space heater. Air system in building emitted quite a robust, ongoing noise. Bed was less than lovely - hard w hard pillows & not to my liking, woke w back ache - one star. On the back of the welcome paper in the room was a full list of towels, sheets, bedspreads and the corresponding price if one was stained! Exorbitant prices at that, sheets $100. We unfolded a clean towel and it had a big stain! We folded it back up & put it back on the bathroom shelf. We got a room with a bath tub and that was splendid! A big tub with lots of hot water to soak in, really enjoyed it. Continental breakfast was included. I love a cup of strong full-bodied coffee in the morning, this was not to be found there; more so a watery brew of something remotely resembling coffee. The staff was friendly & we enjoyed talking with them & learning about the areas rich history. We tried the hotel restaurant & unfortunately found it quite lacking & I wrote a separate review. There were many charms here, but we found it lacking in basic comforts & won’t return.

I had taken my grandchildren and they loved it. The only complaint I have is if you don’t have an even number in your party, you will be separated, and they said they would call and never received a call for seating. Unfortunately our party of five didn’t sit together, but was close by.
