This is a nice corner of otherwise highly "yuppiefied West Des Moines, where it isn't some nouveau boutique or eatery. It's better when there is a farmer's market, even tho it is usually a pretty lame one. Come and check out something different for Central Iowa.

This area of Des Moines is a must see if you are visiting or are local. It has its unique assortment of shops, restaurants, etc in a market place looking setting and they also host the Thursday night farmer's market which is also cool to go to if you wondering what to do on a Thursday night. That night consists... More

Up until recently I hadn't spent a lot of time at Valley Junction. I've shopped at quite a few of the stores and love the local feel. I've attended a couple of the Thursday Farmer's Markets and would highly recommend. I have several favorite stores and restaurants and look forward to shopping at more of them!

If places like Galena Illinois, Eureka Springs Arkansas, and Saugatuck, Michigan are on your bucket list, you should add Valley Junction in West Des Moines, Iowa. From 1893 to 1938, West Des Moines was called Valley Junction and its historic downtown area retains that name. Walk both sides of the 4 blocks of 5th Street and venture down each of... More

Just minutes from downtown Des Moines, this district feels like it is many more miles away. There's something for everyone here - antiques, art, boutiques, a spa, quirky shops and delicious food. If you are traveling through Iowa, or simply want a day excursion, Valley Junction is worth a visit.

If you love antiques and vintage you can park and walk to many different store. There are also places to eat and other shops, clothes, jewelry, etc. If you go on Thursday evening May through September there is a huge farmers market with many vendors, even some food tents with baked goods and made to order items.

So many little shops in Valley Junction. Our favorite is the Chocolate Storybook shop - all home made stuff!! Eat some yummy goodies and then walk off the calories.

This little area is tucked away and may not be on your radar if you are not local to Des Moines but it's a great little historic area with several cute shops, boutiques and places to eat. They also do events such as carriage rides and Santa visits during Jingle in the Junction. Beautifully decorated for Christmas!
