Several different local businesses that are everything from vintage to far out! I would recommend to anyone needing an afternoon diversion!

The old heart of West Des Mounes is called Valley Junction. Everything is mainly on three blocks of the old 5th Street. There is a costume shop where you can buy adult party costumes. There is a famous local pizza restaurant. There are lots of antique shops. There are several original, high quality art stores. You will see tour buses... More

Went to the area for a liesurely evening out to shop and enjoy the weekly evening outdoor entertainment. It was fun, with many people and a variety of food and drink options. Downfalls are limited seating in the entertainment area and parking. People that attend regularly take lawn chairs to solve the seating problem.

Spent a Saturday afternoon Christmas shopping in Valley Junction. Unique shops and art galleries. Pride of local owners abounded. Lovely merchandise not found at the mall. Stopped for a hot chi tea to warm up at a cute coffee shop and kept going. Fun place to wander. Even had ice sculptors on the side walk!

Local flavor: small Iowa town feel with numerous antique shops, local products and a good local pizza joint. Only about 2 blocks long, easy street parking

Valley Junction in West Des Moines, Iowa, is one street about 4 blocks long with funky little boutiques, antique shops, hole in the wall bar/restaurants, etc. It's fun for an afternoon out! In the summer time they also have a Farmer's Market every Thursday evening with vendors of all sorts - very fun vibe :)

I spent the day going in and out of all the lovely shops in Historic Valley Junction. The shops were all really nice and the people were even nicer. Enjoyed talking to all the local shop owners. It is a wonderful area to spend the day. There are antiques, clothes, home decor, gifts, food and drinks.

This little community always has something planned. Farmers market, artist market, live bands, food truck cuisine. Etc

Some bat type restraunts were slammed..but they are little...walked in 1 and they had a DJ who made a rude remark upon entering..so walked right out Went to a pizza shop there and much better. Food was good..wirkers were pleasent. Sidewalks needed cleaning..dog feces on them. Not sure if We will go back.
