Great place to spend a Saturday afternoon

So many little shops in Valley Junction. Our favorite is the Chocolate Storybook shop - all home made stuff!! Eat some yummy goodies and then walk off the calories.

This little area is tucked away and may not be on your radar if you are not local to Des Moines but it's a great little historic area with several cute shops, boutiques and places to eat. They also do events such as carriage rides and Santa visits during Jingle in the Junction. Beautifully decorated for Christmas!

Valley Junction is a historic area housing over 150 shops, restaurants, galleries and events. The feel of the area is a mix of small town and hip. Each shop is independently owned and offers things like antiques, vintage clothing, art, framing, bakeries, costumes, crafts, hobbies, and more. You can spend all day exploring and enjoying. 5th Street in old West... More

Valley Junction is a historic landmark that is good for antiques and local shopping. We went on a Saturday and they were not very busy which was nice. You could walk around at your own pace and pick what shops you wanted to go into. There is a really good coffee shop on 5th avenue that makes a fantastic cup... More

Even though I live only five minutes away, Valley Junction is one of my favorite places to go. The shops are amazing and there's always something fun to do. If you're visiting the area, it's definitely worth a stop....especially if you like antiques.

Valley Junction is great for antiquing and shopping local. There's a bakery, a few restaurants, coffee shop, several antique stores and some local shops selling some neat, custom things. Go for lunch, do a bunch of shopping, go for dinner and drinks and get some homemade fudge for dessert!

Valley Junction has the greatest Farmers Market Thursday evenings all summer long. It's great not having to wait until weekend to get out and enjoy food, friends, and the atmosphere !

We went on a Thursday evening, beautiful weather and the first big night of spring. Tough to find parking but it wasn't far to the Main Street lined with food (prepared and packaged), vendors of every kind, fresh vegetables and flowers. We ate at Coopers and were very happy with that choice. A lovely evening!

We frequently take visitors to Des Moines to the Valley Junction area to eat and walk around to see the various shops. Lots of interesting stuff. Tavern and G. Miggs are both great, informal places to eat.

This is a nice little place to walk around and kill some time. There is plenty of parking, so you can park and stroll up and down the blocks. It is maybe 3-4 blocks long with some things on the side streets. Most of the shops are way overpriced, but they are fun to look through. We met a very... More
