    Local market
Pekan Nabalu is a rest station along the main road from K.K. City to Kundasang. Its a popular stop over, that features stalls with local products and souvenirs, fruit market, restaurants, public restroom and a lookout point with observatory platform that overlooks Mount Kinabalu.

    A short stop.
We stopped here briefly during our excursion program on our way to the botanical garden. This stop is equipped with an observation deck of Mount Kinabalu, and there are numerous stalls with souvenirs and fruits nearby. The weather was good, but unfortunately. a cloud covered the top of the mountain and this time we were not able to fully see the highest mountain in Southeast Asia. But I was pleased with the presence of a variety of fruits at the station.

Local product and see the view in morning
The Nabalu market sell the local products like bario rice, local fruits. We see many Syrians when we reach. Some is selling quite cheap. A pack is rm7. We dint try as I dislike the smell of durian.

We stopped here and got some fabulous photos of Mt Kinabalu. Lots of stalls with spices, peanuts, hats, cold drinks, bags and tee shirts - and fruit. Punnets of ready to eat were available at a good price. Great Stop.

Stopped here on the way to Mt Kinabalu. Great views from the lookout point. As many shops were closed when we were in Kota Kinabalu the previous day it was good to be able to browse the stalls and my husband got some nice tops. As well as clothing there was a lot of food available. Clearly aimed at the tourist, but a reasonable stop on the drive up.

Stopped here on way to Mt Kinabalu. Lots of stalls selling handicrafts and souvenirs. Suggest you buy souvenirs from here as if going to Sandakan there are limited options. Can buy snacks, drinks and fresh fruit sold in bags - the pineapple was deliciously sweet. All at reasonable prices. Will need to pay for toilet - 50c. Where the buses/cars park is viewing area of Mt Kinabalu - great views but weather dependent.

Two types of stalls. One selling souvenirs and the others selling fruit, nuts and snacks. All prices are the same at every stall and they all sell the same thing. Souvenirs and tshirts are more expensive than Kota Kinabalu. Disappointing and a tourist trap for the unwary.

Typical roadside market but with more handicrafts then local produces. No doubt it is cater more for tourists and price is more than in town. But sometimes you do get fresh produces. On a fine day, you can catch a great view of the mountain.

Plenty of souvenirs at prices cheaper than Filipino market. Shops selling mostly similar items tho. You'd have to look out for unique items (such as the wooden face masks) if you're keen on such stuff.

Some shops selling sliced fruits and local food items. Only saw two shops/ cafes selling cooked food.

Offers a nice view of Kinabalu.

Most importantly, the stop here is for the use of the toilet, which is not the cleanest, that costs 30 cents.

Nearby the Nabalu town market, there was a dedicated lookout to view Mount Kinabalu and surrounding rolling mountains and valleys. It was an excellent direct view of Mount Kinabalu but unfortunately for me, it was so cloudy that Mount Kinabalu could not be seen at all. The surrounding mountains was majestic, with clear view of some highland villages. The lookout provides one of the best viewpoint of Mount Kinabalu and its surroundings, and worth a visit while on a drive to Kinabalu Park.

Nabalu town Mount Kinabalu Lookout is not to be confused with Kota Belud Mount Kinabalu Lookout. Both Nabalu and Kota Belud are two different towns found in Kota Belud District, providing two different viewpoints of Mount Kinabalu.

1 hour drive from Tamparuli, one of the best place I have seen ever during 2 hours driving from Kota Kinabalu to Ranau. From here can see peak of Mount Kinabalu. More than that, you can buy many local souvenirs, food and rare fruits! I wish I could come here again

Lovely little market. Lots of snacks and fruits to buy. Perfect spot to take pics of the mountain. Toilets are available. Great spot to stretch your legs and enjoy local products and produce.
