About
The Sioux City Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and the Betty Strong Encounter Center comprise an almost 20,000-square-foot, private, non-profit cultural complex, built and sustained by Missouri River Historical Development, Inc. (MRHD). The Interpretive Center opened in 2002 to commemorate the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial. It expanded in late 2007 with the opening of the adjoining Betty Strong Encounter Center to fulfill a permanent mission of "commemorating a history of encounters before, during and after the expedition. Joined by the symbolic Crossroads, these two parts create a Missouri Riverfront home for exhibits, programs and activities that explore how we live together as diverse people and how we care for our land, our great river, and other natural resources. Admission and programs are free.

My kids 12 & 10 didn’t know about the Lewis and Clark expedition. This was a great stop and introduction! A lot of information, interactive displays, and it’s free!

What a gem of a place. This museum is well kept with alot of interactive items for the kids. Beautiful sculptures outside and a very detailed history of the Lewis and Clark expedition. If you are around Sioux City I would certainly stop and spent an hour.

This is a small center with the area's Corp of Discovery history and local artist displays. There was a local musician performing when we came as well. There are statues in the front that depict local animals and one of Louis and Clark and the dog. There are four flower shaped instruments and some signs about local species with fun little activities to do.
The best part about the center is that it has booklets for kids that you can stamp as you walk through learning more about the expedition in Sioux City. The added interactive component was the best touch.
The center is free.

GPS will send you the wrong way!! Use exit 149! We arrived just as they were closing but they did allow us to come in and get literature about the museum. We were able to walk around the grounds for pictures. Wish we could have gotten to see the museum, the informational packets were wonderful.

My husband and I stumbled on this place while driving from Lincoln, NE to Sioux Falls, SD. It was a great opportunity to stretch our legs and learn a little something about the area. The staff at the center were friendly and helpful. The exhibits were well-presented and very interesting.

Has there been any information released about reopening after the closure due to the Virus?

KokomoGuy81,
We stopped at the L & C Interpretive Center in July of '19 when traveling thru the area. The best way to find out about their hours of operation would be to call or contact them directly. That would be your best option. Anything else would be hearsay. If you enjoy History, you will like the L & C Center.
Enjoy

Is there parking available for RV’s? We have a 31’ motorhome & would like to visit on our trip west.

There were hardly any cars there when we were there, but the lot is fairly small. There is a lot of construction going on around there, so I didn’t see any other lots. I would call and ask.

Is there anything to entertain a toddler? It looks like there is a tee pee he could walk into, and a dinosaur area for digging.

There are not many things for toddlers. Some exhibits have "Do not touch" signs. I would think that toddlers would not do well there.
