About
Cited as a must see in the New York Times travel section, Paper Moon is a one of a kind store located in McGregor, Iowa-just a block from the Mississippi River! Ken, Louise, and Jennifer opened the Paper Moon in 1994. The historic 1860’s building proudly went solar in 2009. The Paper Moon has been described as “the ultimate in therapy shopping.” The ground floor hosts a unique array of gifts, including jewelry, greeting cards, toiletries, housewares, and tons of fun stuff! The second level balcony holds an array of new books and handmade housewares; the third level is 1,000 square feet of children’s books and toys in a relaxing atmosphere. Inventory is in constant flux and Louise and Jennifer work hard to make sure the store has something for everyone. Customer service is important to staff at Paper Moon. They can help with personalized shopping, free gift wrapping, gift certificates, and free delivery in Prairie du Chien, McGregor, and Marquette. Stop by and visit!

There's not a thing you need here, but there are dozens and dozens of things here you'd like to have. We stop at this fun store at least once a year traveling between southeast Wisconsin and northeast Iowa, where there are always lots of interesting books, cards, soaps, and home decor found on all three levels of this historic building. Well worth your time.

Paper Moom is one of the best bookstores I have ever visited. Louise and Jen have a fantastic inventory of books and novelties. If you don't find a book you think you'd like, ask one of them and trust me, they WILL find a book for you. It is worth making an appointment to browse.

We visited McGregor on a road trip, and wandered into this store due to the sign in the window saying 'Don't let the cats out.' Not only did we get to meet one of the beautiful cats in person (Solomon), I wanted to buy EVERYTHING in this shop. Among many other delights, they have one of the best selections of children's books I've ever seen, including many featuring people of color (often hard to find), and a whole section of kids books about cats! It is worth going out of your way to visit this lovely gem!

This is a wonderful book store in a very small town but the quality of their merchandise and selections are unbelievable. The store is three stories and has everything that you cannot find in any of the large stores in a city or at any of the "big box stores. The balcony is devoted to children's books and activities, the top floor has adult books plus a "kitchen book nook" and downstairs one finds jewelry, specialty cards, unusual gifts not found elsewhere plus many other items too numerous to mention. If you cannot find that special gift or book here you will not find it anywhere. The store also has two able "assistants and door greeters" in Mitchum the big black cat and Ruby Woo an active rescue kitten. If you want a truly super experience visit the Paper Moon, it is well worth the trip.

A must stop if you are traveling through town! The eclectic decor was mixed with awesome retro items Fun shop with three levels. Loads of unique books on a variety of topics nature, cooking, witchcraft,ect..I bought the Mueller Report and an Instagram cat calendar for a gift. My friend purchased a hand made wooden serving spoon. The ladies that worked in the shop were inviting and knowledgeable. Would go back again in a heart beat.

I have been visiting this bookstore for years and it's one of my all time favorite stores in NE Iowa. There are 3 levels to explore. The ground floor has fun items for gifts, including beautiful cards, jewelry, scarves, artwork, bath & beauty, art supplies, etc. The second floor has children's books and some creative toys. The third floor has adult books, including one separate room with cookbooks. There are sections with mysteries, self-help, history, local tourism, fiction, bestsellers, and more.
The owners are two delightful women (mother & daughter team) with a great sense of humor and big smiles. They keep the store open all year, unlike some of the antique shops in McGregor that only open during the summer months.
This store has something different every time we visit. Check it out, it is well worth a detour into McGregor if you are traveling up the river road.
