We had an excellent visit to this Olive Oil estate. Due to covid19 tours are reduced in time and extra precautions are being taken, which are well managed by the staff.

Rena took care of us and gave us a guided tour which was very educational. She was extremely knowledgeable and made a great effort to explain the history of olive farming in Crete.

We purchased some olive oil, honey and other delicacies. An excellent visit! Thank you Rena!

Really friendly staff and tour host, took us around and showed us how oil was made with no appointment and free. Very informative tour and how farmers work together with the manufacturers. Good sampling of products afterwards and we ended up buying some items for reasonable prices. Very interesting place for a visit. Highly recommended 👌

A week ago, during our amazing holiday in Crete, we visited the Vassilakis Estate and their olive tour.
We had an amazing guide Val who beautifully explained the whole olive oil making process, answered all our questions with a smile and made our tour and the whole day wonderfully humanly memorable with her lovely human touch.
We are now back in Prague and reminiscing over a meal with the fantastic olive oil and olives we bought here, after tasting everything we asked for.
We highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know what precedes before you can enjoy first-class olive oil at home, plus you can taste various types of marmalades, pesto, honeys, liqueurs and other locally produced goodies.

We had high hopes planning this visit. During our holiday we also visited many small oil manufacturers in the mountains around Chania and retimno as well. Reading the reviews I thought it is the place to be. We were met by a quite tired and bored guide, who quickly toured us through a part of premises. More was about covid restrictions, wearing masks, gloves, the fact that they had to close part of the factory for visitors due to "safety". This was also the only place we found so far that required 3year old baby to wear a face mask. Not even at the airport is this required. The tour was quick and not very interesting, maybe because of the closed parts... This quickly led to a shop with (restricted) tasting area. All goods were given by the guide, I could barely taste the oil on the bread. I like to have a bit more of it. The kids also wanted to taste the oil (have a sample of bread and oil), this was met with subtle disapproval by the guided, but in the end she complied. The next brand was not offered to kids and I wasn't pushing the guide for more. Oil in fact was not bad and we bought some. We were also offered olives, honeys, jams, spices, tomatoes and many more ... I realized that those are nothing special, you can buy those at any local grocery store for half price. They also contained some chemicals and preserving additives that we normally avoid. Same for the wine, which I could not really taste. The lady poured some at the bottom of plastic cup of a vodka shot size. When I asked for more as I needed to feel the bouquet, I was met with negative facial expression followed by even smaller sample in another small shot cup. Stronger alcohols were ok, but way too expensive. Other farms in the region are more reasonable with pricing. The whole thing was in fact a big disappointment as we planned this to be the icing on the cake of our visit. The whole experience lasted 25 minutes, most was the truly difficult tasting (in masks and plastic gloves) where we felt pushed to buying the highly commissioned products. I recommend searching on the internet for smaller local manufacturers or farms, where the family treats you with more friendliness, kindness, and where you really can see simple people's passion for what they do (and they treat you like a guest, with no masks, gloves or "move away"s).
This place looks like a tourist hub for all the big tour operators, where you are just a walking $ sign. Nothing special.
The positive: good quality and tasty olive oil.

Thank you very much for rating and for you comment. In Vassilakis Estate we give a high value in the comments of our visitors, since it's the best way for us to improve our service. From what I understood from your comment, your biggest disappointment was our safety protocol. It's unfortunate that you came in our factory this year, which we must have all those restrictions but believe me all of them are necessary. Our biggest concern for this season was and still is, how to keep safe our colleagues and visitors and so far, we have managed to achieve that with the safety protocol that you are blaming. You should know that this protocol came from people who knows better than everyone what we should and what we shouldn't allow in this strange season. We also know that our tour is shorter than in the previous season because we couldn't include the stops of the bottling facility and the storage room because it wouldn't be safe for anyone to be there because of not a lot of space. Additionally, you have said that our guide didn't give you to try for second or third time to taste the same thing. As you know this tour and the tasting is for FREE and you are not obliged to buy anything. I am sure that no one told you here that you have to buy anything, so you can understand we have to control the whole process. In general from comment, I have understood that your whole disappointment was because of our safety protocol and I hope that in the next years if you visit again the island, you will pass one more time from here for a raki and we will have the opportunity to prove you that we are better than you think. From our team and family, we wish you a nice and healthy winter. Best regards from Crete

We really enjoyed our one-on-one olive oil tour at Vassilakis along with the free sampling! We ended up wanting to ship some items back to the US and the team was very helpful and made the entire process very easy. We received the shipment 10 days after we placed the order and are so excited to enjoy the products at home! We definitely recommend making a stop here to not only learn about Crete's extensive olive history but also to enjoy some of the best olive oil we have ever tasted!

Incredibly friendly and welcoming.

We had a lovely tour of the olive oil factory which was incredibly informative and interesting. Followed by a tasting of all of their varieties of olive pile and other products which were delicious.

Highly recommended. The tour was free and we didn’t need to book they were so friendly and accommodating

We had some time during the morning before our flight to Athens. I google searched a few places and narrowed down to this one. This place was kind a close to the Heraklion airport. Day before talked to a person who was very helpful and made reservations. On the day our guide was Dimitris who was very friendly, knowledgeable and informative about the olive plantations and oil production. We got to see a thousand year old olive tree and also how the oil was made that was pretty cool. They had lot of different variety including organic. We bought quite a few olive oil bottles for ourselves and also as gifts for friends back home. Overall it was a good experience.

Our guide was very informative about the history of production on the estate, it was very interesting.
After the tour we got to sample some of the produce which was really nice, and there was no hard sell or pressure to buy (although we ended up spending as the products were so good). It was a real plessure to visit and for free!

Went to the visitor’s center when they asked where we were from so they could get a guide to take us on a tour. Filled out the Covid form on the tablet in case of a report of a positive. Had a great tour where the showed us two different olive trees; the old system of processing with stone press and story of donkeys being used to push the stone wheel along; the current bottling factory, storage facility and pressing facility. After we were able to taste test the oils and any other products they sold. We knew we needed olive oil for our 2 week stay and we wanted some for gifts. All in all it was a superior time. A great family run business!
