Great olive oil! Interesting tour where you can learn how the production looks like, with tasting of local products. Highly recommend if you are looking for authentic and tasty olive oil.

We had an excellent visit to this Olive Oil estate. Due to covid19 tours are reduced in time and extra precautions are being taken, which are well managed by the staff. Rena took care of us and gave us a guided tour which was very educational. She was extremely knowledgeable and made a great effort to explain the history of olive farming in Crete. We purchased some olive oil, honey and other delicacies. An excellent visit! Thank you Rena!

We had high hopes planning this visit. During our holiday we also visited many small oil manufacturers in the mountains around Chania and retimno as well. Reading the reviews I thought it is the place to be. We were met by a quite tired and bored guide, who quickly toured us through a part of premises. More was about covid restrictions, wearing masks, gloves, the fact that they had to close part of the factory for visitors due to "safety". This was also the only place we found so far that required 3year old baby to wear a face mask. Not even at the airport is this required. The tour was quick and not very interesting, maybe because of the closed parts... This quickly led to a shop with (restricted) tasting area. All goods were given by the guide, I could barely taste the oil on the bread. I like to have a bit more of it. The kids also wanted to taste the oil (have a sample of bread and oil), this was met with subtle disapproval by the guided, but in the end she complied. The next brand was not offered to kids and I wasn't pushing the guide for more. Oil in fact was not bad and we bought some. We were also offered olives, honeys, jams, spices, tomatoes and many more ... I realized that those are nothing special, you can buy those at any local grocery store for half price. They also contained some chemicals and preserving additives that we normally avoid. Same for the wine, which I could not really taste. The lady poured some at the bottom of plastic cup of a vodka shot size. When I asked for more as I needed to feel the bouquet, I was met with negative facial expression followed by even smaller sample in another small shot cup. Stronger alcohols were ok, but way too expensive. Other farms in the region are more reasonable with pricing. The whole thing was in fact a big disappointment as we planned this to be the icing on the cake of our visit. The whole experience lasted 25 minutes, most was the truly difficult tasting (in masks and plastic gloves) where we felt pushed to buying the highly commissioned products. I recommend searching on the internet for smaller local manufacturers or farms, where the family treats you with more friendliness, kindness, and where you really can see simple people's passion for what they do (and they treat you like a guest, with no masks, gloves or "move away"s). This place looks like a tourist hub for all the big tour operators, where you are just a walking $ sign. Nothing special. The positive: good quality and tasty olive oil.

Thank you very much for rating and for you comment. In Vassilakis Estate we give a high value in the comments of our visitors, since it's the best way for us to improve our service. From what I understood from your comment, your biggest disappointment was our safety protocol. It's unfortunate that you came in our factory this year, which we must have all those restrictions but believe me all of them are necessary. Our biggest concern for this season was and still is, how to keep safe our colleagues and visitors and so far, we have managed to achieve that with the safety protocol that you are blaming. You should know that this protocol came from people who knows better than everyone what we should and what we shouldn't allow in this strange season. We also know that our tour is shorter than in the previous season because we couldn't include the stops of the bottling facility and the storage room because it wouldn't be safe for anyone to be there because of not a lot of space. Additionally, you have said that our guide didn't give you to try for second or third time to taste the same thing. As you know this tour and the tasting is for FREE and you are not obliged to buy anything. I am sure that no one told you here that you have to buy anything, so you can understand we have to control the whole process. In general from comment, I have understood that your whole disappointment was because of our safety protocol and I hope that in the next years if you visit again the island, you will pass one more time from here for a raki and we will have the opportunity to prove you that we are better than you think. From our team and family, we wish you a nice and healthy winter. Best regards from Crete
