I planned a surprise trip to Mason City for my wife's birthday. She is not a fan of musicals and has never seen "The Music Man". I put this in so that people will uncerstand that you do not even have to know the movie...More
We really wanted to see this but they were doing road work and the detours kept us away. Also there are no signs to pinpoint this place so even with the gps adress we still couldn't find it. disappointing.
This complex houses Meredith Willson’s boyhood home, a visitor center with a gift shop, restrooms, museum and streetscape from the movie The Music Man. You get to see most of the rooms in the home on all three floors. While I don’t’ think a lot...More
So much to learn, see & experience for so little $!!

Enjoyed reminiscing as we walked down the street, then through the displays. Ice cream is available from period shop, but had just eaten. Be sure to catch film of stars remembering their time spent working on movie.

We went on a Sunday afternoon and elected to do the tour. It's nice to get some extra information about Willson and the Music Man from the tour guides, but you can wander by yourself if you want. If you want to he his house (highly recommended) I think you need to do the tour as they go in small groups. It's a great museum!! Also, check out the local "footbridge" which has a cool sculpture near it.
