LeClaire, Iowa. It's a special place. A place where life on the land is intimately married to the flow of the waters. For centuries, people here have looked to the water for a sense of calm, a spirit of enjoyment and a connection to a heritage that is uniquely their own. That marriage of land and water is now embodied in a different kind of spirit. The Mississippi River Distilling Company hand craft Vodka, Gin, Whiskey, and Specialty Spirits slow and pure near the banks of the Mississippi River. Born from the finest grains, harvested just up the hill from the distillery. It’s a spirit born of land and water that draws each of us curiously back to a different era. Made for you, not for for the masses.

We usually call a distillery or brewery visit a "drinking with strangers" activity. On Friday they open at 10 so we were the first visitors when they opened. This made it a drinking by ourselves visit. Enjoyed a few samples of the more interesting varieties they have. Really like the Apple cider rye whisky, a simple blend of barrel strength... More

The Mississippi River Distilling Company gives free tours several times throughout the day to show and explain the distilling process that they use in making their own spirits. They use local ingredients whenever possible. For example, the corn that they use is from area farmers within a 25 mile radius. Everything they make is distilled and bottled on site. They... More

The owner does a great job meeting and interacting with guests. He takes you through the distillery and provides some information on how the vodka and bourbon is created. He also gives out some samples at the end of the tour. I did have my children with me on this tour and they were all well behaved and listened. The... More

The free tour is very well done and cover how the craft distillery came to be; Following the tour there is free tasting of the locally produced spirits. I bought a bottle of their River Baron Artisan Spirit. (Much like a vodka, but with a bit of flavor). It mixes well with many things.

We highly enjoyed the very informative and intriguing FREE tour. It lasts about 20 minutes, (held on the hr from 1-4pm). Be sure to allow 15 min extra to watch the video of their inception in the lobby. I'm glad we watched it BEFORE the tour. It made the tour easier to follow and understand. It shares the history, details,... More

Biggest ears all the time and they are extremely knowledgeable about what they provide. If you have younger kids, if they do get kind of bored but the tour guide does a great job talking to them and answering their questions as well. They make a really good vodka that is extremely smooth and give great suggestions on mixing it... More

Then, you can retire to the tasting room! Free small samples of their products, My wife tried the River Baron Artisan Spirit & the Gin. I... More
