What a great little museum!! I can't believe it has been right under our noses all these years and we just now discovered it! A fantastic little museum at Camp Dodge that honors Iowans that have served in wars. I would allow 1-3 hours depending on how much you want to read. Very interesting! We will definitely go back!!!

Excellent military museum centered around the Iowa National Guard. Great displays from early to modern. Staff is quite knowledgeable and friendly. Defiantly worth the stop and price (Free)

We almost passed on visiting this museum. What a mistake that would have been. The museum is not huge, but the the displays are pristine! I think the best I have ever seen. Clean, well kept, hands on for the kids, and great information. Take time for this one!

Every Iowan should visit this site. The incredible artifacts and information housed here is amazing in scope and displayed to highlight their importance. My only complaint is this gem is NOT advertised at all. With Iowa Public TV located only about a mile away why is there not an hour long program developed to let every Iowan know it even... More

I visit Memorial Day each year. This is a very nice collection of military items. Many dioramas and military vehicles for all conflicts. I particularly like the collection of firearms. Very interesting and free admission.

Learn how the war started when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor and we put the Japanese in concentration camps.

Good museum, full of exhibits, some of which you can interact with such as the helicopter you can sit into. Unfortunately as I did not have an American driving licence, I was not able to drive to the museum as its on a live Military base and they have a policy of only letting people with American licences to drive... I liked the period uniforms used by volunteers. We saw Civil War, WWI, WW2, Korea and Vietnam costumes. There was also a large collection of weapons from all wars and conflicts. It is a learning experience.

Neat little museum on Camp Dodge in Johnston. Focuses on Iowans and Iowas contributions to the War efforts from the time we became a state to current day. Nicely laid out so you can follow the history of Iowa in the wars with ease. Also a nice little section on the history of the Iowa Highway Patrol including every style of... More
