This is an interesting place. Kids are free and $3 for adults. You ride up to the top of the bell tower and have a great view of surrounding counties and the City of Jefferson. Murals have been painted on the tops of buildings which are interesting to view. The chimes ring on the quarter hour with the Westminster chimes on the hour as well as chiming the hour. Ten minutes later it plays 2 songs and from what I understand one is usually a hymn. You can spend as much time at the top as you wish. The tour guide was ver knowledgeable and encouraged questions and then let you spend your time how you wish.
Not sure I think it is worth a special trip to see although the guest book shows visitors from every where. If driving close, stop. Depending on the time will not take up much of your time.

Stopped in for a visit after seeing the bell tower in an Iowa tourism book. Guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were able to hear the bells chime while we were there. We were also able to view the art that had been painted on some of the local business rooftops.

Beautiful, as usual. The views are gorgeous and the town is taking on projects like painting scenes on the roofs of the nearby buildings. There's also a former chicken hatchery that the high school students used to paint a mural of chickens - hilarious.

The view from the top of the Mahanay Bell Tower is breathtaking! The fall colors are at their peak and you can see it all from the top. I enjoyed hearing about the history of the Bell Tower. The staff is so helpful explaining additional experiences in Jefferson, so it is worth a trip to Jefferson. They have taken steps to keep visitors safe by wearing masks and providing masks for those who do not have one.

The views were amazing! Our guide said we could see for 25 miles. There are very creative murals on the rooftops below to check out. Try finding the outline of Iowa. When you come down, check out the alley with the beautiful bird photographs.

This was actually pretty amazing. The view was great. We went on a day that wasn't completely sunny but wasn't total overcast either. The cost was very cheap. Took the elevator to the top and it had an automated tour button that was pressed at the top that gives you information about what you're seeing and Jefferson itself. Small souvenirs were available for purchase also.

We ventured into this beautiful town by chance. I was intrigued by this high tower located by the court house. I thought maybe there use to be a church on that spot but it turned out to be a donated by a local. Lynn the tour guide was very friendly and informative about the town. We happen to be there when tourist were slim so we had Lynn all to ourselves. Lynn recommended we walk around town to visit the local shops. We found some nice antiques and had some great food. Stop and visit Jefferson, we ill be back for sure!

Your first trip to the top of the Mahanay Memorial Bell Tower is amazing. So is every other trip. The cityscape and the miles of Iowa countryside that can be seen from the top change not just with the seasons, but weekly. There's no better way to watch crops develop, to follow the harvest, or to note the changing autumn colors.

This was a nice place to spend an hour. Our guide was very dynamic and interesting! She shared several stories and history of the tower, courthouse and town! It did have an elevator that took you to a glass enclosed viewing area. The view was great!

This is a must do if you visit Jefferson. It is a very unique structure for a community of this size in the middle of the cornbelt!
