While not a thrill-a-minute experience for adrenaline-seeking adventure hikers -:) this ground-level tribute to the many literary bright lights who found inspiration in the nation's only UNESCO-designated City of Literature is well worth the effort. Buy the guidebook at Prairie Lights, then linger and enjoy...More

We take most of our out-of-town guests on this literary walk in the heart of Iowa City. Be sure to pick up a paperback copy of the guide first at Prairie Lights book store. One is always surprised at how many famous authors have Iowa...More

While the quotes imprinted in the concrete are worn and virtually impossible to read now, all the metal inlaid in the sidewalk are there and very cool.

If you're an avid reader, writer, or anything in between, this is a fun activity for a nice day. Walk the quaint streets of North America's first city of literature and check out these great pieces that represent bits of famous literature.

We were walking downtown and came across the Literary Walk. It's not a big, big deal but it was fun to read the quotes and see the accompanying art. Check it out if you're in the area.

We didn't have a lot on the docket for our time in Iowa City. I was there doing research at the University. We thought this sounded fun. Don't even try to read the impressions in the cement. The brass plates are unique but in the...More

Kind of like the Hollywood Stars Walk of Fame only these are quotes of famous authors who once participated in the highly respected Iowa Writer's Workshop. Very interesting.

This is a neat idea but the quotes were difficult to read, especially those in the concrete. Slowly walking the blocks and reading the quotes is a fun thing to do, especially in good weather.
