Kind of like the Hollywood Stars Walk of Fame only these are quotes of famous authors who once participated in the highly respected Iowa Writer's Workshop. Very interesting.

Iowa City calls itself the City of Literature. IThe famous Iowa Writers Wokshop is here, as is the Summer Writing Festival, which i attended. There are beautiful markers on the sidewalks with quotes from famous writers who had some connection with the UI, either as student or faculty.

This is a neat idea but the quotes were difficult to read, especially those in the concrete. Slowly walking the blocks and reading the quotes is a fun thing to do, especially in good weather.

I almost ran into a few people because I was walking with my head down almost the whole time. Every couple of feet there is another plaque in the ground. The walk spans a couple blocks and is on both sides of the street.

Stroll around downtown to see writing from the many folks who have written their famous works while in Iowa City...or maybe were inspired by others who walked before them.

This is cool to see but not really a destination in itself. I took a friend who was visiting from out of town and this was one of the things we saw the day we spent in Iowa City. If you're going to be on the Ped Mall anyway and are interested in this sort of thing grab a guide... More

As you walk down Iowa Avenue, you can look at the plaques on the sidewalk and learn about the literary history of the area.

We spent about an hour walking up and down both sides of Iowa Street looking at the various literary quotes set in brass and imbedded in the sidewalk. Much more creative then I imagined, with visual themes in the brass embodying the quote. There were also quotes set in the cement which in many cases are now starting to deteriorate... More

While walking along Iowa Avenue take time to look down. There are quotes from many authors carved into the pavement. While some of them are getting worn down, many can be clearly seen. Also stop at the large books and take a glance inside the pages shown.
