it is not worth the trip. the price ( 10 lei a person ) to see ruins runned down is too much. I feel robbed.

EC7 Festival
Jul 2019 • Friends
Interesting historical place to see when in the area. Visited the castle while attending the Electric Castle Festival (EC7) with friends. They have it open so you can go through it and see the history during the festival. Out of all the castles I have visited here in Romainia, this one still has an older more historical feeling to it as it is not fully renovated as the others. Obviously they had to fix areas to make it safe while touring, but its mainly the floor as they put wood above the foundation. Crazy seeing many parts of the building still intact from the original structure. If you're in the area, do see it, has a beautiful setting and a great place for photoshoots!!

Quiet place, interesting
May 2019 • Family
The castle is ruined and in the process of reconstruction now. The place is quiet now on springtime, good for strolling around alone or on a guided visit.

You can imagine the castle on its glorious time and I hope it will be in a good shape again. It takes time and it looks maybe a little strange to see old walls and a new rooftop.

Good way to spend an hour
Apr 2019 • Friends
You can have a guided tour or just stroll around the castle ruins; a group of us just strolled, looking at the renovations still in progress and the old walls just using the info card given by the porter as we paid the entrance fee. The large stables have the mangers and ties for the horses. Several broken statues are in some of the rooms. Kestrels are nesting in one of the turrets and Lesser Whitethroats sing in the bushes lining the courtyard. Toilets are amongst the best I've seen at an attraction. There is a café but we didn't visit it. Parts of the castle have been renovated but there's a long way to go before visitors can safely see the whole structure as some areas were off-limits. We agreed that the history of this place makes it a good way to spend an hour.

Interesting historical building
Dec 2018 • Couples
The Banffy Castle is located in the village of Bontida. While driving on the national road DN 1C / E576 connecting Cluj with Dej, in Bontida, there will be a sing for the Castle. From that point drive for about 3.5 km on county road DJ 161.
The entrance fee is 8 RON (less than 2 euro). At the entrance a display with some statues and decorations fragments is available.
The Castle was seriously damaged by the retreating German troops in September 1944. The inadequate use of the buildings during the communist period, as well as the lack of maintenance accelerated their degradation.

Neglected ruins with brand new roof
Jul 2018 • Family
Hosting such a huge event like Electric Castle festival, as well as wedding parties and corporate events, this castle is a real money maker.
If you hope the owners invest a percentage of the incomes in castle restauration, think again!
Except for the roof, the rest of the building is completely neglected. The contrast between the brand new roof-tiles and decayed condition of the walls is shocking, putting the quality of this kind of "restauration" into shame.
A tower is secured with some wood logs since more than one year ago, exposing the same large cracks in the structure.
Some of the windows are covered with carton panels, wood planks or bricks.
The signs of restauration are even more questionable indoor. Cheap materials here and there, lots of dust and debris on the floor.
And every year, in July, the ruins are exposed 24 hours a day to vibrations during the electronic music festival.
In 2017, the festival's organizers asked the festival goers to donate various amounts of money "for castle's restauration": donate 10 Lei ("Buy a brick") or donate 50 lei ("Buy a bucket of cement").
One year later, in 2018, I didn't notice any improvement in castle's condition, so I'm wondering what happened with all those "bricks" and "buckets of cement" (I purchased five bricks and one bucket of cement and about 40.000 people attended the festival). However, the donation campaign was no longer running in 2018 (probably because it's not very effective to use the same lie twice in a row).

Such a Shame!

The castle is a ruin. Destroyed by the communists until 1989. Neglected by the new communists disguised in democrats after 1989. It makes you sad and furious at the same time.

A surprise
Jul 2016 • Couples
I've visitied Banffy castle after the music festival and it was a surprise for me. The owners are investing a lot in renovating the castle and it is looking much better then few years ago, congratulations ! Surroundings are looking ok now, and also some parts of the castle. I think in a couple of years interiours will be renovated, too, and all will look faboulous.

A bunch of ruins
May 2016 • Couples
We took a guided tour of the location and there isn't much other then the stories. Everything is in ruin, so you won't see anything more the bare walls. Must have been nice one day, but unless they start rebuilding it there isn't much too see
