My amazing hubby Ted surprised me with this incredible boat trip as my birthday present. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better day. We set off from Canas with two of our good friends and captain Carlos (there is lots of safe car parking space at the docking area). For the first part of the trip we glided through deep mangroves which was really peaceful and atmospheric. You can really relax and let go of all your worries as the alive jungle and calming water meet to soothe and revive you. Next stop was a quick visit to a remote island hostel, run by a really sweet French couple, who live totally off grid and work hard to conserve and protect baby turtles. Then we were back to the boat for the next part of the adventure, out into the open ocean for some deep sea fishing, time with friends, swimming and snorkeling. The boat is really comfortable and there is space to store your bags and water bottles. A big part of what makes this kind of trip is the type of guide and captain you have. I have travelled a lot and Carlos is definitely one of the best. He immediately makes you feel welcome and totally at ease with his super positive and friendly nature. He is great fun too and will blend in with any group of people, you will definitely have made a new friend by the end of your trip. I felt very safe with having Carlos as our captain and his knowledge of the area is extensive. You can genuinely feel his passion and love for the ocean and the environment. We have lived locally for over five years and yet I never knew this incredible piece of paradise existed. It's one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Whether you are a local or on vacation, this is a once in a life time trip to a truly spectacular part of nature, that will replenish your soul. Best Birthday Ever!! Will definitely do this trip again. Highly highly recommended. We all had an amazing time. Thanks Carlos.

We've received numerous referrals about Carlos and Playa Venao Fishing - now I understand why. I've also read the other reviews and agree with all the great things said. Rather than repeat them, I'll just share a couple thoughts from a great couple of trips.
My wife and I joined another couple on a whale "hunting” trip with Carlos earlier this week and it was fantastic! We saw a couple dozen dolphins, several whales, and even caught some fish! Carlos is a great navigator with outstanding customer service. Very friendly, easy to talk with, and an extremely positive attitude. Great knowledge on many things, especially the water and local area. We had such a great time, we took a second trip with him just a few days later. Although there were fewer whale sightings and questionable weather on this second one, we had a second super-fantastic trip. I’m sure it is not likely to happen on every trip, but Carlos positioned us perfectly to watch a pair of whales execute simultaneous breaches. We were also in a great position to take some wildlife action photos and video of one of the many breaches we witnessed. It was just a wonderful couple days, and I’d rate him a 10 on a scale of 1 to 5 if I could.

Just returned from our trip to Playa Venao!
The area is amazing; the wildlife, the surfing and most notably for us, the fishing. We fished for 4 days with Capt Carl and he did not disappoint us; Carl is a top notch boat captain and fishing guide, and has all the necessary gear and knowledge to put you on the fish and make it happen. Being bi-lingual in English and Spanish and local to the specific area we fished contributed substantially to the quality of our trips; as did his patience and eagerness with the youngsters I brought aboard.
The runs to the fishing grounds are short, and even on a bad weather day the seas are gentle and safe. Dolphins, sea turtles, frigate birds, red-lored parrots, pelicans, howler monkeys and possibly even humpback whales (depending on timing) are sighted frequently on a daily basis. The fishing was at times non-stop action and we even caught and released 2 big Cuberas; and kept enough yellowfin tuna, wahoo and sierra mackerel to keep the 3 of us well fed for the week.
Can’t wait to return next year!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our guided fishing trip with Playa Venao Fishing! Carlos is a fantastic guide. He’s energetic and determined to make it a successful fishing trip for all. We caught several tuna and an Amberjack. Carlos filleted the gosh for us and suggested we take it to a local restaurant for personalized preparation. His suggestion was spot on. Carlos communicates well during and after the booking process and offers and affordable guided trip. We saw several whales and dolphins and Carlos made sure we got a closer look!

While traveling to Panama to visit a friend, he recommended Carlos to take us out fishing during our stay. Once out on the ocean, we saw humpback whales, sea turtles, and a few jelly fish. Within minutes of putting the rods in the water, we all caught fish. Such a great morning. When we were deciding we were getting ready to leave, I was realing in the line and something bit the live bait. I continued to real in the line and a big red snapper came to the surface. This was another highlight to the day.
We highly recommend Carlos to take you out on the ocean for a great adventure of fishing.

Our wonderful tour guide Carlos took us out on a tour as requested on his very comfortable clean boat to the mangroves (Panamazon) and a village stop. He is experienced, knowledgeable and obviously loved by the locals. We had the best time ever!! He picked us up at our hotel as planned and dropped us off safely. We felt like we were on a true adventure that afternoon. Carlos has a great sense of humor and put up with us fun-loving Canadians. We are ready to book for next year again! We highly recommend using Carlos for fishing and touring 100%. You will NOT be disappointed. See you soon again Carlos! Until we meet again! Cheers from Canada!

Carl was so great with our 3 kids! We had such a great time! Our 6 year old was able to fish a bit and pull in a medium size fish with the help of Carl. The boat was comfortable and clean and seemed to be in perfect condition. Carl was on time and very professional. We would definitely recommend this trip and will return ourselves.

Carlos is a stand up guy who loves fishing and is great at it! He took us out twice during our trip the first go was eventful with dolphin sighting, whale sighting and caught some tuna but my husband missed his Wahoo. I knew we had to try again so we booked a second charter, we were practically beating the tuna off the boat and closed the session with my husbands first wahoo!! I can not say enough great things about Carlos, if you are in Panamá do not miss the chance to book a charter with him. We will be back to see you again Carlos!!

We had a blast fishing with Carlito and Playa Venao Fishing in Panama. We caught tuna, bonito and some really big jacks. Carlito has a nice boat with 2 new Yammis that ran great. We did lots of trolling and casting. Carlito loves to fish and look for bait. Best part was that we were able to work the equipment and not just real in the fish. Carlito has nice rods and reels and tons of lures. He was on time and always returned my calls and texts. Great trip!

Went fishing with Carl twice in March 2022. Both days he immediately put us on fish including yellow fin tuna. Great fishing. Also, helped us in other ways including giving us wasabi, which is hard to find in venao, and steering us to a great surfing guide. Very good experience.
