This is my third trip to this garden. In summary, it is spectacular. While I would have expected to pay $5 to $10 per person, it is free. That makes it even more surprising.

There are several different areas and each is great on it's own and even better when grouped together in one experience. Don't miss feeding the fish in the pond, it is fun to see them swarm for the food. That is 25 cents per portion and is the only thing you pay for, other than the gift shop.

The grounds are very well kept and everything was nice on my visits. If you want to relax a bit, I recommend the deck off the upper floor of the visitor center. Personally, I could sit there for hours just relaxing.

The only down side is that some of the areas may be challenging for wheelchairs. There is a lot to see if you are mobility challenged, but some areas, like the pond, are difficult or more for those guests.

Highly recommended.

This garden in the Dubuque suburbs has an overwhelming abundance of very well kept hostas and other shade plants. Nice! Also included is a Japanese garden complete with koi (bring a quarter if you want to feed them!) In June, 2020, social distancing was still a real concern, and masks were required to enter the gift shop/ restroom area. We noticed many locals bringing lawn chairs for impromptu gatherings in the garden - it's a favorite.

"Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens"? More like "Dubuque Arboretum and Bo-tan-ical Gardens", am I right?
There were so many *tan* people standing around! Like, I expect a normal distribution of tan people everywhere I go. Even when you go somewhere with lots of tan people (for example, Africa, Hawaii, Antarctica, other) there are *gradations* of *tanness*!
Even weirder (weirder still?) was that these tan-ners were all standing stock still! Like, even if you poked them, they didn't move a muscle! Yelled, not even a twitch. Shouted, nothing. Loudly exclaimed, nary a spasm Ran into them again and again until you blacked out, nada.
At some point, I even thought to myself, "Self, are you sure these are even people? I mean, their skin is *really* dry and rough. They are super tall (like freakishly tall) (like taller than my Dad tall) (like think of the tallest person you can think of, a bit shorter than that tall)."
Looks can be deceiving, but you can only skin a cat in a bush with two birds.
5/5 Would visit again.
ProTip: You can park your carriage in the nearby amusement park for free!

A wonderfully landscaped arboretum with many unusual tree species and very attractive formal gardens, all well maintained. Even this late in the season the beds still looked wonderful. Very pleasant to stroll through, and you can't beat free admission! One of those great spots where a person could spend a half hour or all day depending on their inclination, and love it!

I have been to a few Arboretums but the one in Dubuque has to be one of the nicest. All of the gardens were nice, but I really enjoyed the Japanese landscaping and pond. It was really relaxing walking through the property! They even have concerts on certain nights which would be fun to go and enjoy. Plan on spending at least an hour as there is a lot to see.

After all of the damage from the Dercho in Cedar Rapids, we decided to drive north to find some trees that weren't damaged for some autumn color, and this was the perfect place. It was a cold, drizzly day, but we still enjoyed seeing some of the last blooms of color, the waterfall in the Japanese Garden and the vibrant leaves scattered along our path.

This is a beautifully kept garden, with only 1.5 employees. The volunteers do the work and you can see their tender loving care all over. There are several gardens and nice paths. There is a small, but nice gift shop and bathrooms. Worth the time to see it.

Perhaps the most amazing thing is the dedicated involvement of the volunteers. Many of the beds have a label indicating the name of the volunteer who is responsible for maintaining the flowers there. They do a fantastic job. There's also a small gift shop, with a deck overlooking the grounds and a screened porch for relaxing. No charge for admittance, just a donation box.

Yes, this is a truly beautiful place and they continue to make it absolutely glorious! This years HERB FEST 2018 was a really nice chance to be p close and personal in this jewel of a river city! It is located on the northwest side of Dubuque and has numerous types of garden, over 60 as we were told! There's an English garden, rose, herb, hosta, Japanese and a variety of others... Volunteers create and maintain all of these gardens and they pledge to continue to grow them even more in the future. What an incredibly peaceful and lovely place! Loved the pond and the waterfall...
