For a tourist there's not much to see in Des Moines down town, but East Village is completely different. Here we found so many nice cafés, restaurants and shops. Further up hill there's the impressive Iowa State Capitol that you can visit for free. We didn't visit it yet but

We were in town for a bachelorette party and we walked around here for a little bit and it's such a cute area with lots of bars, restaurants, shopping, antique stores, etc. It has a young vibe to it and it's one of the cuter areas of Des Moines that I've gone to. Very walkable

The east village is full of unique shots and eateries that is definitely worth a visit. We enjoy all the shops and hotels are within walking distance as well as night time activities.

Had a great long weekend in the East Village. Enjoyed walking the avenues and checking out all the unique businesses and fun bars and restaurants. Felt absolutely safe at all hours, and enjoyed having access to free DART bus and close proxiimity to lots of interesting places.

This little neighborhood is filled with small and unique businesses that are locally owned. Our favorites are Raygun, All Spice, Gong Fu Tea, The Kitchen Collage and Jett and Monkey! So many fun stores and restaurants. Be sure to go on a Saturday during the summer....you can hit
