Saturdays are great days to visit the shops, check out the restaurants and do some people watching! There is a rich diversity of interests and lifestyles here. Very enjoyable!

In local magazines, we saw ads for several stores in the "East Village." Turns out the "East Village" is next to the state capitol building. RayGun, a cool t-shirt and touristy shop, is the best. I was in Des Moines during the week and spent a few evenings and an afternoon in East Village. There are many reasonably priced restaurants and fun trendy shops within a few blocks easy walk. Also this part of the city seemed very clean and safe compared to other cities of a similar size.

Walked around the area several times on our recent visit and really enjoyed ourselves. The architecture was very interesting and the whole area has a good feel to it.

After reading all the information on this little neighborhood, I was expecting a lot. I showed up to dead neighborhood with most shops closed on a Sunday afternoon at 345pm. The only shop open was Raygun and it was fantastic.

Spent a few hours on a Monday shopping. There was such a wide variety of stores concentrated in a few block area. Some stores were not open on Mondays, though. Enjoyable and definitely worth the effort!

I just moved to DSM a few months ago and have decided to live in the East Village. I'm very happy with my decision and have also started helping out 2 friends launch a retail store called Cherry Clark Furniture on East 5th. Every week, I try to walk some new streets to see who has opened or planning on... More
