big city feel

Feels like a small village in a large city. New shops and restaurants popping up quite often. Quaint place to spend a morning, afternoon, or evening.

Plenty of good bars, shops and places to eat. Plenty of shops for the hipsters too, like Raygun Shirts and Zombie Burger. This place was dead 20 years ago and has really revitalized downtown.

I love the East Village! It's one of my favorite places to go in Des Moines. There are plenty of quaint and unique shops to visit, plus it's home to Gong Fu Tea and Zombie Burger.

East Village is an area of downtown Des Moines that starts on the east side of the river and runs over to E 14th. It's situated just south of I-235 and includes things like the State Capitol, State Historical Museum and various shops and restaurants. Most people consider the unique shopping areas to be along 6th & Grand to 4th... More

Saturdays are great days to visit the shops, check out the restaurants and do some people watching! There is a rich diversity of interests and lifestyles here. Very enjoyable!

In local magazines, we saw ads for several stores in the "East Village." Turns out the "East Village" is next to the state capitol building. RayGun, a cool t-shirt and touristy shop, is the best. The store owners know this because the store's metal building has big letters that say "The Best Store in the Universe." If you need touristy... More

I was in Des Moines during the week and spent a few evenings and an afternoon in East Village. There are many reasonably priced restaurants and fun trendy shops within a few blocks easy walk. Also this part of the city seemed very clean and safe compared to other cities of a similar size.

Walked around the area several times on our recent visit and really enjoyed ourselves. The architecture was very interesting and the whole area has a good feel to it.
