I love Zoo Brew

On Wednesdays during the summer, the park opens in the afternoon for people over 21. There is beer, wine, and music. It's a very fun activity to do as a group.

Perfect size to make it through the entire zoo in a day without being rushed. Very clean. Great animals. Opportunities to feed some of the animals. Nice park within the zoo for taking breaks with the kids. Fun fish area & other hands on areas. Worth the drive.

We go to this zoo about every other year. Takes us (in our 60's) about 1 - 11/2 hours to see everything when we keep moving. Many mature trees, paved walkways, clean, restrooms in convenient places (also clean) and friendly workers. The animals appear to be well cared for. Working on the exhibits to improve them continually. Zoos is one... More

The Blank Park Zoo is not huge but a good manageable size. Lots of animals with really great and interactive enclosures. The rain forest, to the aviary, to the farm yard...so many great things to see and experience. Clean wide walkways and picnic areas available. Also Zoo Brew if you are over 21 occurs Wednesdays from 5pm-8pm throughout summer. Check... More

Des Moines has a lot of great things going for it. First off, the people. The Art Center is far better than ones I've visited in much larger cities. The sculpture garden and Simon Estes Amphitheater also very nice, though both venues could use more trees. The food scene is really beginning to simmer, likewise the music scene. The zoo?... More

Only takes 2 hours to walk through the whole zoo. Not many hills. Great for strollers.Very clean. You can pack a picnic and eat in the zoo or at the park located right after the zoo entrance. Lots of parking available. Great place to visit!

We visited the zoo on "zoo brew night" which was kids-free with beverage vendors on site. It was great walking around the zoo without the big crowds and it was not as hot towards the evening time outside. The only downside is that the zoo is a bit small and certain parts were not very well maintained (e.g. the pools... More

I have been here several times with my children and it is always a great way to spend the afternoon. The kids love seeing the animals, especially the open area with the peacocks and wallabees. Toddlers to middle school kids will probably benefit the most as teens may get bored. They have a couple food areas that aren't too terribly... More

My kids, ages 4 and 15, LOVE this zoo. And so did I. For one thing, it is just the right size - not too big and overwhelming, not too small either. Perfect way to spend an afternoon. Also, it's not all spread out, with nothing to see in between - there's plenty to see, and the paths all make... More
