We've made many enjoyable visits to this museum over the years. No admission or parking charges, and you can easily give a free will donation to help support. Check the website. This museum gets many excellent traveling exhibits. We've seen "American Gothic"and Jackson Pollock's "Mural" there, as well as other great exhibits.

What a gem. What a wonderful way to walk off a meal, or spend an afternoon! The museum is free. FREE! And so large that you can get overwhelmed if you want to see everything on one visit. There are several exhibits, and lots of stairs and hallways. And a restaurant. Not just a cafe, but fresh food served at... More

Went to see Vivian Maier photo show. Small but well curated. Interesting permanent exhibit. Easy parking. GREAT restaurant as part of museum. Good food, sunny environment and very friendly staff. Free admission to museum.

I have traveled to many cities and visited many an art museum, and I can tell you the Des Moines Art Center surpasses most. The building, which is a work of art in itself, houses a permanent collection of pieces by an astonishingly diverse and renowned number of artists. Rotating exhibits are as unexpected as they are thought-provoking. I am... More

Wonderful photography exhibit of Vivian Maier: Through a Critical Lens. Worth the trip to see. Was surprised at no admission fee. Also must check out the gift shop. Even if you just buy a Carmel. They are delicious .

Have good collection of arts and the building itself is very large and has multiple floors. Adjacent to museum there is a rose garden too and few trails.

Focus's heavily on Modern and Contemporary art. Would not make a trip just to see it, but if you are in the area it's a great place to visit.

Such a beautiful building and each piece is set like a jewel. You are. Mainly going to see 20th Century works and not in depth on any movement, but very fine pieces representing movements throughout. Some of the best sculpture is still at the Art Center but a sampling of the large works is downtown at the sculpture park. A... More
