This museum is definitely for those who enjoy more contemporary art. I am more of an old-school art person, so there wasn't much for me there in the perm collection. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the current exhibit from Glenn Brown; it really got my friend and I talking, as some of the pieces were quite intriguing. The best... More

We were pleasantly surprised by the Center. The buildings complement the art and create a nice traffic flow. The artwork was not extensive, but was of high quality and well presented. A great way to spend a couple of hours!

I stopped in with my 10 year old daughter last week. We have both been to the art center many times over the years. I like that it's free and easy to stop in. My daughter has taken several kid's classes there as well, which are always great. Since I was in last, they have a work by Edward Hopper... More

This is a FREE museum that would do very well in many cities around the world. Especially considering this in Des Moines, this is a great place to visit. They have pieces from world-renowned artists such as Claude Monet and Georgia O'Keefe. I highly recommend this museum if you're in the Des Moines area.

This is not the Louvre, Prado, Uffizi, or the Met which are all over the top amazing, but for a small museum it has a nice collection of well known artists including Monet, Rodin, Matisse, Warhol, Cassatt, Rothko, Segal, and others. And of course, the Iowa artist, Grand Wood. There are rotating exhibitions as well as the permanent collection (which... More

The museum has a great collection. The tour guide Paul was very knowledgeable and offered insight to the building as well as the pieces. The Lichtenstein pyramid, Maya Lin rock field, and The Flock II by Abakanowicz to name a few. Paul asked the group for their opinion of several pieces. We had a rich discussion around a Francis Bacon... More

With rotating feature artists and many classic and modern works this is a wonderful free gallery. There is a Georgia O'Keefe that takes my breath away. I have been before when they had Jackson Pollock and Kathe Kollwitz pieces on exhibit but they were in storage this visit. It is just a few blocks from the sculpture garden. The place... More

Very nice museum with some important works. Lots of variety. It is very nice that they don't charge admission. The gift shop is great. The necklace I bought my wife always gets complements.

We went there last week, the museum was beautiful. There are at least 3 different buildings. There was a nice mixture of sculptures and artwork as well as some unique displays. It's a nice thing to do on a hot afternoon. The best thing is there is no charge for admission, its free!
