We went to the art center on a Friday afternoon about an hour before closing. It was very relaxing and peaceful. They have a nice blend of modern and older art as well as large pieces. The building is really cool as well. They had a couple of Grant Woods and an Edward Hopper. I like the architectural pieces as... More

Real gem worth visiting. Excellent shows very well curated, and the Art Center's own collection of art pieces is surprisingly interesting and intriguing.

People rave about this Art Center and for good reason. The contemporary art collection will amaze you. Three distinct buildings by three different architects showcase special exhibits and the regular collection. Excellent place for lunch.

Not much of an art lover, but this museum opened my eyes to the beautiful world of art. From exquisite painting, to abstract sculptures, this place has it all. Very friendly people there to answer questions and a very modern style.

We live in Des Moines and try to make frequent trips to the DM Art Center. New exhibits and permanent ones always enlightening. Outside garden area is beautiful. Restaurant is great for a lunch with a friend. Gift shop has much variety. Always feel great after visiting.

You can see paintings by Bacon, Hopper, Wood, Picasso, Braque, Warhol and quite a few others. The venue is not excessively crowded. It has a nice collection of modern art. And it is free.

The Des Moines Art Center is a gem many people forget about. We are so fortunate to have the high level of tremendous art right on Grand avenue. You must visit. Not open on Mondays - there is a restaurant too. Oh and it's free.
