Awesome trail! One of my faves!

I love the section of the trail from Colby park headed west, it's windy and fun through the trees! The trail actually goes quite far, so look online to see where you want to start!

Great way to connect with the Racoon River Valley bike path at Waukee. Keeps you of those busy roads and winding along a former railroad line.

The Greenbelt Trail wanders throughout the western part of Des Moines, centered on Clive. It's part of the Iowa trail network, offering paved ways 6' across: I've biked it a few times, but be warned that it's packed with walkers and runners. Expect to weave about, following urban forests, streams, parks, .. and number of back yards ... and occasionally... More

In town for a bit and training. This trail was right near our hotel and was prefect! I chose to run the opposite direction from downtown. It was shaded, just enough traffic to not feel lonely and pretty flat. Mostly asphalt some trail. It's pretty to run in the woods near the creek. There are a few parking lots and... More

Shady and pretty trail. They have water fountains every couple miles or so, which is a really nice feature that I haven't found on many other trails. Personally, I like to go for a run here on particulary hot days. It's plenty shady and there's built in water stops. It's great for kids too, they have parks and picnic tables... More

I walk this trail almost every other day. You can easily do as far as you would like as it continues and hooks onto many other trails. Good for jogging, biking, or walking. Scenery is along the river in most cases and among trees, so there is shade. I would reccomend this trail. They are in the process of resurfacing... More

A long shady trail ambling beside Walnut Creek. Great for biking or walking. There are random play ground areas to take a break. Or just stop at the side of the creek and dip your toes. A lovely nature retreat in the middle of suburban homes

We used to go there when it first opened. You just had to be careful of the bucks that you encountered on the path so they wouldn't gore you. We quit going there after the gay murder where the guy got stabbed 35 times behind his business on the trail when he tried fending off a gay attacker's advances.

This trail makes you feel like you're in the woods, but right in the middle of the city. Easy, flat terrain.
