Gray's Lake has so much to offer Des Moines! We took our kayaks on our last visit. It's a great place to walk your dogs, hang around on the beach, etc.

Nice place to enjoy some time away from it all. Walking trail around the lake complete with Bald Eagles. Next to Des Moines River. Beach, rentals for water craft, outdoor yoga. Check to see if it's open because they are doing some upgrades.

Was visiting the Des Moines Area and wanted to do some walking outside. Drove to Gray's Lake Park. What a beautiful place! Walked all the way around it and down in the sand by the beach area. Will definitely be back next time in the...More

This lake between airport and downtown features a well maintained walking biking path that circumvents the lake and is wide and fairly flat. There are restrooms and parking. At some seasons watercraft are on the lake.

Many trails lead to this park via Des Moines city and beyond. Jasper winery is under a mile from here. Plan your route to the winery carefully and you need not ride to much of a busy road. Great park and lake to ride around

Great place to spend some time outdoors. The trip around Gray's lake is a little over one mile and well worth the trip. This is well maintained walkway, with lots of others taking advantage of the trip around the lake.

Grays Lake Park. Des Moines,IA. People of IA are very fortunate to have Eagles and a Eagle nest this close to view. The Eagle pair have been using this nest for at least seven years.

Gray's Lake is a oasis of nature nestled right into the downtown area. The walking path is well maintained, scenic and long enough to give walkers and runners a decent work out. It's very dog friendly and you will find yourself greeting other walkers, runners...More

Lots of people go to Gray's for the environment. You can walk leisurely around the lake, or exercise. It is a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors. We really had a wonderful walk when we went.

Yes, you can fish. Not sure what you might catch. Water works park to the west of Fleur has fishing ponds that could be better.

April Weekend in Des Moines - Gray's Lake? Other ideas? (7 Replies)
We're coming in for an April weekend (not during Drake Relays) and so far have this list of possibilities: Des Moines Art Center Massages somewhere, probably Massage Heights or Massage Envy because they are near our West Des Moines hotel and because they offer a $39. special. Maybe an OmniMax movie at the Science Center. The Botanic Garden sounds nice but not sure if my crowd will be interested. Fleur Cinema for evening entertainment. Gray's Lake, although I can't find a...More

I should mention that shopping is not high on the lists of the men in our group so we probably aren't looking for mall suggestions this trip. Thanks again. We'd never been to Des Moines until one of our kids moved there for school and have really enjoyed the little bits of time we've spent there. Such a nice city! Looking forward to our visit.

This is a very timely post. I was just watching a morning news show and they were talking about future detours around the airport. They were talking about detours coming from the north, so I think you are okay coming from the south. I really don't know where GraysLake is, so I'm assuming you would come on I-94 from Gurnee, Ill and thru Racine and Kenosha. If you are coming in on I-43 from the southwest, Lake Geneva area you would be impacted by the detours. They also mentioned on the...More
