Overview
More
Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

Not worth the cost of parking. I wouldn’t waste your time. A handful of statues only. Worst part was there wasn’t a Papa Johns nearby.

We really enjoyed walking around this lovely park area and observing the sculptures. Admittedly, when we read the descriptions in the brochure back at our hotel, we were baffled by the meanings but the sculptures were fascinating nonetheless.

Not huge, but nicely laid out with a number of sculptures in a tranquil park setting. Most enjoyable. Bring your camera

A lovely outing just west of the downtown area. Great for photos! A number of cafes and restaurants nearby. We walked around waiting for a table. Cool, contemporary art in downtown Des Moines!

Nice area to walk around and view various sculptures. Lots of shaded spots to sit and enjoy the surrounding things or sip on a coffee.

I came for a weekend stay to Des Moines with my family. We just had to stop at the sculpture park. It was definitely worth it! I would recommend for art lovers and non art lovers alike!

The sculptures are all cool and placed beautifully around a small park. A great place to visit. Nice walking path around the park and benches. There is street parking all around the park. Great stop to visit.

Not the sort of art exhibit that you would travel much distance to see. But if you are in town, it is worth a look. There are many nice restaurants and shops nearby too. Downtown Des Moines just keep getting nicer.

Walked around this park on a Saturday afternoon in early March. Didn't find the brochures about each installation, but the have plaques at each one with some info. We especially liked the circled, color mirror installation. We spent about an hour wandering around.

Great question! Since the Pappajohn Sculpture Park is technically a city park, dogs are more than welcome.

Great question! The area is well-lit at night including street lights as well as individual spotlights on a number of the sculptures in the park.
