Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists.

The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

Wonderful park with some large "other world" type sculptures. Nice wandering cement paths for dog walking and art enjoying. Seemed to be plenty of metered parking available. Be sure you bring a camera and pick up after your pet. The state capitol dome can be seen just down the street.

Like no other sculpture display. This is an entire park dedicated to amazing sculptures. Some made of bronze, some metal, some stone. Some lifesize, some huge. I especially like the invisible man in the bronze coat. But, I dont get the red metal I beams. Looks like someone left construction debris in a heap! A great stroll along the paths... More

These sculptures are fun to see in person and are surrounded by restaurants within walking distance. Definitely a fun addition to an afternoon trip!

We enjoyed the art. It was quite cold however so we walked quickly! I'd like to see more landscaping perhaps to make the site more varied and interesting.

This park is definitely worth a visit. You can leisurely stroll among the modern sculptures that are interesting to check out and hang out when the weather is good.

I have toured the park five times. It covers several city blocks. There are paved sidewalks that run between the various objects. There are brass plates that tell the name of each work of art. You can tour the park in an hour on a nice warm, sunny day.

We didn't know about this park before arriving to Des Moines. But it was so well signed we decided to check it. We weren't sorry. It's cool. It's suitable for everybody. And it's free. Finding a parking spot was easy.

This park is in a central downtown location, perfect for eating lunch on the lawn, going for a brisk walk, or playing pokemon go ;) It you would like to spend anytime outdoors near downtown Des Moines, I would highly recommend this park.
