Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists.

The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

Outdoor city art

Whilst I'm no art critic I enjoyed looking at the free sculpture park named after the Pappajohns. Well laid out and you can spend as long as you want there. It's free.

Very nice to visit, especially since it is free! The sculptures were very interesting and thought provoking. You can spend as little or as much time as you want to. We found the park on trip advisors and also an app I have called "Roadside Attractions". I felt alittle silly looking at my roadside attraction app as many people were... More

While the Papajohn Sculpture Park is a great attraction to visit, be warned some of the sculptures are a bit questionable. There are several along Grand Avenue resembling giant spiders & larvae. Strange yet worth the visit assuming you go with low expectations. As compared to sculpture parks in larger cities, this one pales in comparison.

My husband and I enjoyed a stroll through the park, while the rest.of humanity stared at their phones. Quite comical & enjoyed the peacefulness!

The Sculptures were interesting, and the park well taken care of, but it was crowded with Pokeman players... Not sure I understand...

This was a nice surprise in the city. Great place to wander leisurely in the outdoors. Unique art, great story behind it.

The sculptures are awesome! My boyfriend is not very big into art, but he loved it! The alphabet head is very cool. You can walk right into it, it's huge! The mirror/color exhibit is awesome! You can see about 20 reflections of yourself. It made for some really nice pictures. The horses made of wood are awesome! People were so... More

This was a very interesting sculpture garden with some very distinctive sculptures. My favorite was the head made out of the alphabet which was big enough to walk inside of it.

Visited the park in the daylight and then returned at night to see that several sculptures were more interesting during the evening.

Neat little park. The kids enjoyed stretching their legs and running around. There was plenty of metered parking along both sides. It was $0.45 for 1 hour. There were also some restaurants right around the park you could grab food at. I don't think it's something we'd do again, but neat to see once.
